Eliminate LCD Motion Blur While Gaming!

The effect is simply stunning and has to be seen to be believed!

Yes, I've finally found the holy grail of gaming in 2D mode on an LCD monitor: zero motion blur! It literally displays motion as good as a CRT and then some. I was so stoked when I first saw the effect today, that my jaw literally dropped and I played my game open mouthed, it was that awesome! This combined the crystal clarity of an LCD display with the motion sharpness and smoothness of a CRT, all at a fast 120Hz screen refresh rate. This is something I'd never seen before and looks truly amazing - better than even a CRT.

You need a 120hz+ LCD for this right? or it works with all LCDs?

120hz is needed.

I rolled back to 306.97 and same issue persists for me. When I check "Enable stereoscopic 3D" it takes me through the setup wizard and I have to select 3D Vision Discovery since I do not have any 3d glasses or hub that the other options require.

Edit: From what I am reading, this requires the newer 3d displays that have 3d Vision 2 since that includes 3d lightboost technology. People like me with "older" 3d displays do not have this option.

Yes, it takes advantage of the new 3D Vision displays that support LightBoost. If you were thinking of upgrading your monitor you won't regret it, I tell you.

OLED or AMOLED or better. I quite agree.

Of course, this doesn't fix problems like viewing angles or light bleed. I wonder if this would work with the faster IPS panels? I think it would, since the pixels stabilize within 120th of a second.

The problem is, there are no true 120Hz IPS panels. Even Overlords are only guaranteed to 60Hz and assumed to reach no more than 96 or so for the best models.

Face it guys, LCD tech is crap. They should have come out with color filtered OLED, or better yet PLED by now.

Yup, it is. However, it's been improved enormously over the years and can deliver very nice pictures nowadays. LightBoost is another way that this has been significantly improved.

Thing is, it's real simple to implement, because the backlight simply has to be flashed synchronously with the refresh rate. This makes for smooth motion at the expense of flicker, but at 120Hz you can't see the flicker anyway (just make it switchable). This should be a must-have upgrade for any monitor that purports to be made for gaming or any kind of animation. Even the desktop looks a lot better.

Bottom line is, I can't get excited about this if it A), extends the already too long popularity of LCD marketing, B) adds extra cost on a tech that is very flawed to begin with, and C) is skewed toward one chip vendor, that of course being Nvidia.

it won't work with my BenQ XL2420T. when you click Enable Stereoscopic 3D it goes through the setup wizard and won't let you continue unless the 3D Vision kit or glasses are connected.

A generic version of this shouldn't be hard to do. Don't worry, replacement tech will appear in time, perhaps not as soon as we want, but it will appear.

Yes, you need the emitter connected to set it up, but you can disconnect it afterwards and the setting will remain - forgot that bit! I'll add that in later.

Meh, people like me don't notice anyway. A while ago I actually went back to a CRT to see if the text became less blurry while moving in Titan Quest, and it didn't.

CRTs still hold other performance advantages. For example, while the blur is gone, I still see the occasional ghosting with high contrast moving objects. They can also accept a wide range of resolutions, displaying them fullscreen and still look good. Finally, they're still superior for lag, although modern gaming LCDs do have very low input lag that you wouldn't really notice, especially where the scaler is bypassed.

Is this something you wouldn't notice if you hadn't seen any different? I still game on a 24" 1200p monitor I bought in January of 2008. I am fairly successful in Counterstrike, so I know it doesn't hurt my game play.
