Thought id share a little bit about my little project i did about 6months ago or so and i just basically finished it off the other day with a GPU upgrade. The project came about when i got a old computer off this old bloke for free and when i opened up the case i fell in love with its design. So i said to myself lets make this into a LAN PC so i don't have to lug my main big computer around all the time to LAN's.

The mini tower had all the right things to take modern computer components even though the case had Socket A parts in it originally. I didn't have much $$ at the time so it was on a very tight budget, cheaper the better but good enough to play all games on.

So this is what i got for it:

AMD Phenom II 955 $75 from a member here at TPU (already had a brand new spare Copper cooler for it here)
AM3 Mini ATX Mobo from ebay $25
8GB of DDR3 1333 Rip Jaws $55
WD Black 500GB $95 (by memory)
Silverstone ST45SF 450W SFX $89
3x60mm fans $12
Sony DVD $25
154GB WD Raptor was free i had it spare from older builds.
320 WD 2.5" Storage drive, got it free from a dead laptop
ATI/AMD 4850 512MB free as it was my brothers on lend till i got a new card.
Back grills $5 for the set of three
Multi card/USB reader $20
Gainward GTX 650 TI GS $154 replacement over the 4850

I think thats it.

i was going to get a 7770 but the length of the card was to long :ohwell: So when i saw the GTX 650 TI came out it was more powerful, better on power and short in length i knew that was the card for this system, and im very happy with it so far.

3DMark vantage score of 14343 is not bad with a GPU score of 16131 :D

Any questions please feel free to ask :)

Enjoy the pics

Has anyone else noticed that the new DVi connectors on these cards, well this one anyway, are DVI-D plugs? and apparently do not except a DVi to VGA converter? :ohwell:

That's a nice build Melvis! good for gaming too!
good choice on the 650Ti, if the deal at your place was better than the 7770.. it does perform better than the 7770 (around +15%), and surely better perf/watt..

the connectors in your card are miniHDMI, DVI-D Dual Link, VGA.. so u need to check if your converter supports DVI-D dual link or something else..

check out this link which could help u out with the variations

and I presume cooling with that case is adequate?

Thanks :) Yea it does pretty good!

Well the 7770 over here is cheaper by a good $30 but the length of the card was to long to fit inside the case, or just cutting it way to close. So when the GTX 650 TI came out it was realy short, and more powerful so it was the perfect card for this build.

Yea i looked into this and none of my converters here are DVI-D, so i looked around and i can get one for $5 but when i looked on some Nvidia Forums people where saying that even with the converter it still didn't work, so i went and bought a second hand 20" Widescreen monitor instead lol.

Cooling isnt to bad at all, there are the 2 60mm fans at the back and a 60mm at the front of the case. Also i made sure i got a card that vented out the back of the case as much as possible to keep things cooler inside. So far i haven't seen this GPU get over 66c, so that's a good sign :)

Also you would notice i put vents at the back so the video card can suck in cool air from outside also.

thanks for the link!!

Also i had to do alot of cutting, drilling etc to fit in the PSU.
