Core i9-14900K is Intel's new flagship with clock speeds of up to 6 GHz. It's actually clocked even higher than the 13900KS, thanks to an extra 100 MHz when more than two cores are active. Our review confirms that Raptor Lake Refresh is amazing for both applications and gaming, if you can live with the power consumption.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA, oh wait, Intel's serious, let me laugh even harder

What a joke man, it's within error of being the same! This was not worth the marketing money spent, let alone it being it's own generation, what a waste.
I guess the 1% lows are slightly better, single percentage improvements

EDIT: Editors choice? I mean, I guess it's a fast cpu, but with it being nigh indistinguishable to 13th gen, I disagree, but I am not the one writing the reviews, so it's nothing that matters at the end of the day

Ive thought about getting an apex encore and a 14th gen for some memory overclocking, but my god, the power usage and efficiency on these things are laughably bad. ASUS needs to hurry up an and release that unreleased AM5 apex.

  • Matches 13900KS performance, beats it in some cases
I wouldn't call that a positive aspect of this CPU. I'd call it a negative. A new CPU in their lineup that really shows no difference over the last release. I feel they should have just called this 14900K a "13900KS, Too."

Otherwise your review is pretty much spot on for what kind of performance I was expecting to see from this CPU. I really only skimmed over this review, I'm more curious about the 14700k so I'll be over there for a while.

Read the conclusion the gaming benchmarks power consumption/Temperatures, and glanced at application performance.

Otherwise it's an overclocked 13900k so why bother with architecture....

The 13900K is already a year old, is cheaper than the 14900K, and would be completely indistinguishable from a 14900K to the end user. Yeah, that kind of makes the 14900K a bad product.

So practically the same heater as 13900KS but with a cheaper price tag. Wonder if they release a KS later that how much that draws power with 100MHz higher clocks.

Intel milking both customers and architecture.
They had five generations of Skylake.

Waste of silicone. Should have been used in breast implants instead.
Silicon and silicone aren't the same thing. Though I agree otherwise.

14900k might be an Editor Choice but not mine for sure. I have to agree with the one above that said that it's not a good product if you consider the last gen features, prices and performance. I mean, this is a "13900KS+",shouldn't be a new gen cpu. It doesn't make sense at all! But my opinion only. I respect all others that think differently than that :)

I'm sure that people will call this a pointless release, but that's not true.

Disagree. This is a pointless release. Brings nothing new to the table and does not warrant a generational name change.

The best thing that could be said about this is that it's a small discount on the 13900KS. But this is just a rebrand of an existing SKU with a bigger number on the box.

Thanks for reviewing this chip. Mainly interested in gaming performance which is (as expected) embarrassing but can't say i am shocked. The fact that you can buy a much cheaper more power efficient and faster alternative from its competitor should be a wake up call for intel

Thanks for your hard work wizzard comprehensive review it’s a great cpu to upgrade to if you are still holding out since 8th and 9th gen cpu but for me I’ve skipped the 12th and 13th gen so this will be a pass as well for me… I will wait for the new core ultra desktop cpu in 2025

I think it's good for those that have Z690 boards that can handle the i7/i9 and are rocking something like a 12th gen i5 hopefully they didn't skimp on their boards.

You're saying 13900K is Editor's Choice but not 14900K which a very little bit better in everything?

Depends on street price vs street price IMO.

This and the 14600K feel very much like those Ryzen 3000 XTs that AMD released. A way to re-anchor street pricing back towards the original MSRP with some very minor gains.

The 14700K is a step ahead of the 13700K for MT stuff so is probably worthy (not checked the review yet mind so maybe there is a power draw issue on that front).

EDIT: Just checked the 14700K, for MT yea, sits between 13700K and 13900K as expected, power usage is between them as well so no real efficiency gains or anything. In gaming it draws a bit more power than the 13700K but does not really perform a lot better so gaming efficiency is worse. Bit of a tossup. For a cheaper productivity chip that is great at gaming then yea I see it, for a gaming 1st chip with productivity on the side not so much.

Absolutely. That's why I specifically mentioned in each review how much more I would pay vs 13th Gen. 13th Gen should also come down in price, because "last-gen"

Different ways of seeing it I guess, from that perspective, then yeah, it makes complete sense that if the 13900K is an editor's choice, then so is the 14900K, though from my perspective I see it as a very small generational gap to the point where while technically better, there is no point to it existing, which is why I don't think it should get it. At the end of the day, you made the review, not me, I can see why you'd give it the award, I just disagree

Looks like the 7800X3D is still on top for games- especially at $369.
