i laughed like a 12yrs old when i did read Ploopy :laugh:

edit: after reading the review, oh my ... i want that DAC, Burr Brown and Rpi? DIY wet dream, the headphone also look interesting, i like the overal idea and the price is not even that hardcore for what it is ...
granted it could benefit from some more polishing.
btw: i have a set of true planar iems (unlike the Celest Gumiho i mentioned once) coming soon(tm) in the form of a KZ x HBB PR2 (average reviews of 4.2/5 on Head-Fi) to add to my collection

Can't help but suspect they went 3D-printed for "cool/trendy factor" more than anything else, unless they're planning on moving some pretty small volumes. 3D printing makes for great prototypes, but (broadly speaking) lousy finished products.

- I can see the 3D printed look having its own aesthetic "lo-fi" kind of appeal.

These headphones would be a pretty fun kit to put together with the kids as a kind of hands on "how stuff works" project and as a plus it would be something they could actually use afterward instead of just sitting on a shelf like a lego kit or whatever.

The goal behind the open-source concept here is you can 3D print yourself with a variety of options, be it resin for increased resolution or even SLS with metal if you so desire.
