The ZMF Caldera, priced at $3,500, is a standout flagship set of open-back planar magnetic headphones known for its distinctive warm sound, which has plenty of weight behind the tones. With its proprietary, patent-pending technologies, this customizable audio gem not only rekindles your music enjoyment but also doubles as a visually artistic piece.

Again, this is an incredibly cool piece of tech that surely is very impressive to listen to, but I long ago found that for headphones going above 500-ish dollars is heading into an increasingly ridiculous territory of diminishing returns. This is a case with a lot of hardware categories, but I feel like with audio it’s the most prominent.
Not that I wouldn’t love to own an Orpheus, for example, but it’s more of an appreciation for the sake of it more than any practical considerations.

Do you know if ZMF customers get to see a photo of the wood and finish before they place their order? I wonder if anyone sends back a pair because patterns in the grain of the wood aren't to their liking. I checked out the YT video featuring many of the design options, and the variations in wood are significant.

The various limited editions all have photos and unique names so you pick from a drop-down menu what you want, assuming it's still available.
