hi
ive been trying to fix my pc for weeks now and there has been no progres at all, only a £180 bill :( this is how it started...

i did a fresh install off my pc a few weeks ago to clean up the hard drive but once i had installing vista and the drivers my pc randomly froze up after a few hours and wont load up properly. the pc turns on for 5-10 secs then just turns off again and just contnous to go in this loop of restarting on and off, with nothing comming up on the screen. so i tested some of the hardware to find out what the problem was and found out my Intel Core 2 duo 2.66 GHz had just blown :( so i thought buying a new cpu would solve the problem but soon as i put a brand new intel core 2 quad 2.66 GHz the same problem happened again...

should i just buy a new motherbord or is there another way to fix this?

please can somone help me its driving me nuts

pc spec
abit 35 pro motherbord
320 gb harddrive
6 gb of ram (2x1gb 2x2gb)
GTX 8800 geforce
600watt psu
intel core 2 quad 2.66 GHz which has probs blown like the last one :(

A few things to try:

- Resetting CMOS if not done so already.
- Check mobo for possible blown caps or bulging caps (don't recall if the pro had solid caps or not)
- If resetting CMOS did not work, could be power supply, ram, cpu, video. etc. See if you can get any beep codes?

I have that motherboard, it hast a POST display, can you read what is the last number it display before it auto restart, in the last pages of the manual (5.Appendix) is the POST code definitions, check that out.

As bucd said try reseting the CMOS (see page 3 1-4)

Also what brand is your PSU?

had this exact issue happen to me on 3 IP35 pros back in the day... and I can safely and 90% surely tell you that your motherboard is borked and not repairable.

the IP35 pro had massive problems with traces cracking in the PCB

If those post codes are correct then your PSU is probably dying (98 -> De-Assert ATX power supply, wrong voltage supplied), replace it and the issue should go away.

i had a ip35 and it kept corrupting window install after a reboot. i believe to southbridge was dieing. swapping mbs fixed issue.

btw i was able to rma that board to abit. this was 8 months ago, but way after abit was closed up, so i believe they are still honouring warranties.
