The goggles could let handlers direct their dogs from a safe distance, the army says.

The US Army has shown off augmented reality goggles for combat dogs, designed to let them receive orders at a distance.
The technology, made by a firm called Command Sight, is managed by the US Army Research Laboratory.
Military dogs can scout ahead for explosives and other hazards, but need instructions.
The goggles are designed to let their handlers direct them, safely out of harm's way.

Activision(-Blizzard) is the publisher, not the dev. They have pretty much no say in what actually goes in the campaigns (I'm sure they can decide what can't go in the campaigns though). What you meant to say is Treyarch (if referring to the very next COD Campaign, Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War, set in the Cold War so this wouldn't fit), or Sledgehammer Games if referring to the next one after that.

You also didn't mentioned that Infinity Ward is the mainline dev of CoD, not that it matters as this is Activision's IP. Also, just Activision is the publisher. Activision-Blizzard is just a holding company for both publisher.

I'm liking this news as a pet lover, it will mean more animal safety & consideration while possibly making them more effective combat/support dogs.

If my correction was unnecessary, so was your initial comment. But this is off-topic anyway, so let's drop it.

Mainline? I mean, they started the series, sure, but all three devs are making 1 game per 3 years. So while IW has made the most in total, it seems to be all three devs carrying the load. They contribute just as much, and as you mention, it's Activision's IP anyway.

I was sure they were fused into one company, but I'm unsure so won't comment on this. You're probably right. Regardless; Activision's the publisher, not game dev. But as I said to Chomiq, let's drop this as it's off-topic.

Agreed. Dogs with jobs are awesome, and the safer they are, the better.

Makes sense I had a standard poodle who was an avid tv watcher always trying to grab furry creatures off the screen; watching to see if the birds would fly out into the room. She'd watch for hours on end. I could see this useful just for training alone.
Now when do they do this for rats?
