I have a strix B550A motherboard, and like the B450 PRIME I had for the last 3 years, it slipped Armory crate in by default.
I never even use this app, I've never opened it up manually, and I don't know why I should have it on my system unless uninstalling it is likely to make things not behave nicely.

Apparently Asus has a dedicated tool for removing it without doing a fresh windows install, which is something I do not want to do at the moment. Does anyone know if this works, and if there's anything else to be aware of when removing this software?

What I did was a reset of Windows. I suspect you are on Windows 11. All you have to do after your reset is to not accept the install by going into the BIOS and disabling it.

Yes, there is the Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool that will be available from the Asus support page for your motherboard. But there is no guarantee this will work, and unless you're desperate to free up the storage space it's using you might be better off to just leave it alone.

I agree. The Uninstall tool that Asus provides is really flaky. It seemed to work on my G14 but previously nuked my Windows install when trying to remove Armoury Crate from my loop build. Best results always achieved with a clean install of Windows.

There's a guide for laptops, obviously quite a few services on there that aren't applicable to desktop boards, but it gives you an idea of how much shit is on there that remains if you only uninstall the app.

Just uninstall everything Asus-related in the Apps menu of the Control Panel (Settings). You also have to make sure you disable the ArmouryCrate installer pop-up in the BIOS.

Not by default, this seems to be a new thing for a lot of AM4 boards these days! Even on the x570 MSI I had this option popup about Dragon Center or some BS installing on first Windows boot or something. It didn't auto install though, it asked what you wanted to install, like drivers, & I just closed it. You can disable it in BIOS & it should go away.

Oh, don't have Asus but this was a new addition to MSI only in the last 2-3 months.

At least for MAG x570 boards.

Yeah, atleast msi asks you. By default ASUS justs shoves it down your throat if you don't disable it on the bios.

nyeeeh, if it's gonna make a pain of itself I'll leave it be unless it does something. I was kinda hoping it would be less of a clinger.

Just gotta wonder that why the hell mobo manufacturers have an auto-install for their bloat enabled on their boards? Gigabyte has also their similar crap and I always need to remember to disable it after a bios update.

This insidious nonsense started with Asus a few years ago and now MSI and Gigabyte have copied them.
It's an awful idea to install an unpatchable rootkit in Firmware. Lenovo's reputation was tarnished by it for good reason, so why do Asus get a pass, and why do other manufacturers have to copy Asus?!

It's just regular driver/crapware you can uninstall normally though, and the rootkit that auto-installs it is a bios setting (it varies by board, and it's not always in the obvious place, but it is usually labelled unambiguously).

These days I actually use that software voluntary as I have TUF wireless headset. Hated when that wanted to install automatically with a ROG mobo though.
