I've created a separate forum theme for the upcoming dark mode.

This is expected to have some bugs and colors might be suboptimal.

Please help me find issues, I'm a noob, not using dark mode anywhere.

Beyond just fixing "wrong colors", I'm also willing to make adjustments to the colors--this is a community effort.

To enable, at the bottom of the page:

I believe that if you just replaced all the 255 255 255 whites with 192 192 192 greys there wouldn't be a need for darker colours. And fonts can stay the same colour (0 0 0).

Oh fuck, okay, right off the rip - the message background should be less dark - light grey or maybe dark blue. Really dark BG with stark white text is cool and contrasting, but is actually terrible for reading in the long term and can cause haloing issues for people with refractive errors (mostly astigmatism).

No plans to make changes to the current light mode theme

reload, better? seems a bit too bright now?

Definitely better. If you want to avoid the “too bright” issue you can experiment with darker background and lowering the white intensity on the text, if Xenforo allows that. I always use two dark templates of Apples Reader Mode as an example.

I just disabled dark mode in dark reader so will provide feedback. My initial thoughts are the post and comment background is brighter than dark reader, and this results in the faded blue not contrasting enough with it. If needed I will post a screenshot to show what I mean.

Already noticed and edited, but thanks anyway.

I think that it could be better to differentiate between page background and posts, for me it's not easy to spot boundary between posts like it was in light mode.

But it could be just My poor eyesight.
Hmm maybe darker background.

Edit1: I think that the topics in hardware and others could use different colors like in recent discussion.
It's easier to spot difference between the topics. (But question what others think :) )

and question about emoticons, they are as jpg for forum, or as some other format, cause they are not cut exactly, and in dark mode I see white contour outside the emoticon.)

Edit2: system specs are white with changed font color.

yeah that is a problem indeed, they are low res pixel art which we've been carrying with us for a long long time, but they are part of our identity

made the background a bit darker, this seems fine?

Loving it so far, questions:
- any plans to implement similar theme to the website itself?
- once theme is finished can we have the switch implemented as a simple toggle button at the top? Similar to this:

If they are just some old format it should be not a problem to correct them for dark TPU?
And I don't wanna to loose them :).

It's just a simple retouch and is not ideal, but a little better :)

plans yes, won't happen until after Computex, gives me time to learn from the experience here in the forums

switch implemented as a simple toggle button at the top
Is that needed? it will follow your system setting automaticaly

I don't imagine it's a priority, but I just got whiplash from going to the light mode home page

I noticed I was getting more purple :)

All the animated ones look fine - and the ones to do have the border appear to just be compression artifacts. Perhaps they could be remade without?

It is a toggle button on the dark mode theme:

Actually much prefer the Dark Mode and it is a lot more gentle on the eye's. Thank you

Seems good, readable. At least on the phone with an OLED. Will check later on desktop. Another reason not to go for pitch black/very dark is that it can exacerbate IPS backlight bleed issues.

Is there a way to help You change them for the dark mode? (only a few of them need retouch, and if it's just to change some colors in paint, I'm "quite" skilled).
Edit1 I see that You've changed the posts background color, with this colors recent are a little bit harder to differentiate.

@W1zzard clicking on systems specs is a white background.

Wow.. easy on the eyes

I'm having a hard time finding a better blue color, right click, inspect, mess around with the CSS, see if you can find something better that's sufficiently different from the normal user color

I believe "based" is the word you are looking for.

On topic: Your name appears aliased for some reason. Others' render ok. The red colour, perhaps? It renders blue on the light mode.

I think it's the red. The "POWER" part of the banner is aliased in both versions, but in the dark mode is much more pronounced.
Same goes for the stars under user names.

And now I need to fix my sig...

Thanks for this but yes a better light? Blue would be better imo

OH MY GOD YES, FINALLY!
Spent quite some time clicking around the forums, everything seems fine for now.

Can confirm what others are saying, a lighter blue might be better for the accents.
