Hi, I hope I didn't post this in wrong thread (if does, please let me know)

I just download GPU-Z 2.56 on HP 14-am015tx, and after running my Windows suddenly went into BSOD.

Imediately after restarting, I go to EventViewer but I'm not technical person - no clue what should I shared from Event Viewer, so I just share this message;

A service was installed in the system.

Service Name: GPU-Z-v2
Service File Name: C:\Users\jonet\AppData\Local\Temp\\GPU-Z-v2.sys
Service Type: kernel mode driver
Service Start Type: demand start
Service Account:

then after that;
The operating system started at system time ‎2023‎-‎12‎-‎07T08:29:13.500000000Z.

Logged: 7/12/2023 3:29:14 pm

The previous system shutdown at 15:06:57 on ‎07/‎12/‎2023 was unexpected.

My specs are:

i5-6200U with 16GB RAM DDR4 PC-2133, the GPU is Intel HD 520 and AMD Radeon R5 M330, Windows 10 22H2.

I've several tried old version prior 2.56, but the result same, the latest version that running well on my laptop is 2.52

Thank you.

Are you saying that versions 2.55, 2.54, and 2.53 of GPU-Z also apparently cause the BSOD?

Very interesting, thanks for your report.

It crashes immediately after you start GPU-Z ? Do you see the main window come up or the splash screen?

It's strange that 2.55 ran normally. Maybe the crash is random? Can you try 2.55 a couple of times?

Can you do a couple of runs with 2.52, too? I think this one should probably crash, too

Hello, signed up to report a similar issue, from a Thinkpad using i7-7500u (HD 620) and R5 M430 running Win10 22H2. It took me a futile week to realize it was a systemInfo/GPU-Z thing, not a problem with display drivers.

If I run Lenovo-supplied video drivers (Intel 30.0.100.9865, AMD 27.20.15030.19), GPU-Z (and 3DMark’s systemInfo) BSODs on data collection with SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (code 3b, P1 c0000005). The crashing symbol being GPU_Z_v2+2332. Sometimes the operation succeeds and I need to rerun the tools to crash.

If I run Intel & AMD’s latest legacy drivers(Intel 31.0.101.2125, AMD 21.09.13.02). The tools can always get info no problem, but GPU-Z runs inconsistent monitoring on the AMD card (data oscillates between normal values and all 0’s. yes Clock, Mem, Load, and even Temp simultaneously become 0. When the rest is 0, Fan speed becomes non-0).
The curiosity: this monitoring is incompatible with 3DMark’s systemInfo - either running systemInfo in monitoring mode, or running systemInfo in collect mode w/ GPU-Z just sitting there monitoring GPUs, triggers a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT bsod on systemInfo’s behalf (driver is NTKernel, offending executable FMSIScan.exe). If I disable GPU-Z monitoring in systemInfo and not having an active GPU-Z then the problem won’t trigger.

Driver verifier fails to catch either of the BSOD’s (I.e. not triggering a verifier BSOD). Not that I get to attach verifier to GPU_Z_v2.sys though. Aha, 3DMark’s systemInfo places a GPUZ-v2.sys under C:\Windows\TEMP and driver verifier actually catches a violation upon data collection (ran from FMSIDiag. wasn’t problematic before). It’s version 2.56.
The offending symbol is GPUZ_v2+1e20, P1: 2002 (Code Integrity Issue: The caller specified an executable MDL mapping. (Expected: MdlMappingNoExecute).
No idea if you guys can debug 3DMark-shipped GPUZ.sys though.

@W1zzard , @netto

Good morning, was a solution to this problem found yet?

I have been having the same issue with my new laptop ASUS Zephyrus G14 GA402XV model

Ryzen 9 7940HS Stock clocks
RTX 4060 mobile - Stock clocks
16GB RAM
Installed 2 TB SSD WD black since stock was only 512

Windows 10 Fresh install
Latest chipset drivers installed from ASUS
BIOS was updated through windows update to latest from ASUS
All windows updates installed except 2024-01 Security Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5034441) - fails to install every time, google search reveals its a common issue though I do not believe this is connected with this issue

Things I have tried:

Installing 3d mark on steam and running - BSOD GPUZ v2.sys
Reinstalling 3D mark and running - BSOD GPUZ v2.sys
Updating NVIDIA driver and running 3d mark - BSOD GPUZ v2.sys
Removing NVIDIA driver in safe mode using DDU, reinstalling in windows, running 3d mark - BSOD GPUZ v2.sys
Running 3dmark.exe directly from steamapps folder - Could not connect to steam client issue?
Running timespy from steamapps folder - No response, no crash, no launch
Deleting GPUZ v2.sys from temp folder in Windows and appdata - BSOD GPUZ v2.sys
Merging accounts on 3d mark.com to attempt to download standalone version without repurchasing - Failed to merge accounts
Downloading 3Dmark onto desktop PC (5900x, 3080ti, 32GB, Windows 10) and running - Ran no issue, even verified in temp folder GPUZ v2.sys was present, did not cause issue
Downloading latest GPU Z and attempting to run GPU Z - BSOD GPUZ v2.sys
Downloading and installing GPU Z 2.52.0 as per @netto seems to have made work - BSOD GPUZ v2.sys
Uninstalling and reinstalling Systeminfo to latest and running 3dMark - BSOD GPUZ v2.sys

Things I have yet to try:
Repurchasing 3D mark from 3dmark.com and downloading standalone windows version
Reinstalling Windows 10
Running 3dMark while wearing my lucky socks
Contacting 3dMark support

This seems to be the only post I can locate that seems to be this exact issue, if you have any other ideas to try, or need additional information please let me know.

Thank you.

No point, this is definitely a GPU-Z issue

Just to confirm, the BSOD happens immediately after double-clicking the GPU-Z icon (while the splash screen is up, before the main window is shown)?

@W1zzard That is correct, I see a splash screen for about 1 second, then blue screen.

I've made a video recording what happens in real time when attempting to launch gpu z 2.57.0

The second one is a video showing in real time what happens when I attempt to run 3d mark

@Naki I have not contacted asus support I don't believe this issue is connected to anything to do with asus and I have very little confidence in them not pointing fingers elsewhere. The laptop itself is more than capable of running 3d mark, the only asus software other than bios chip remaining after the fresh OS install is armory crate to control power profiles and fan curves until I do more research into g helper as an alternative however this video

Is precisely the same laptop as well as model and software used running 3d mark, cinebench, hwinfo, msi afterburner, and armory crate without issue, unless a newer version of armory crate causes issues with direct 11 software such as 3d mark I don't see why it would only be that program when every other game and software I've used on it runs without issue. Thank you but I do not believe asus is able to help here.

I was suggesting to contact ASUS, just in case this is a known issue and someone contacted them about the same prior. :)
Even if they have no fix/solution, still sometimes a good thing to do to let them know. :)

If more users report it, likely a solution can be found sooner.

We're doing some debugging in private and making good progress, this is definitely a GPU-Z issue
