Thx for quick reply, its a clean install, i have yet to install the sound drivers, i usually look around to get latest drivers first, as alot of the time Asus don't update there drivers very often, i usually connect hdmi to hdmi from my gpu nvidia card, so just use there audio drivers, but i aint getting surround sound in games, so i am wanting to use optical to optical on my av receiver, but i am only getting PCM 2 channel.Do you have any issues when using the driver from 2022?
If not, you are fine.
Thx for reply, i just replied below, yes i would rather use window drivers, but they dont give me 5.1 in games.there is not really a reason for onboard audio drivers. they are mostly a bundle of bloatware like the realtek audio console.
it will sound and function identical with the default windows drivers.
Thx for reply, i am not, using hdmi/optical to my receiver. If your using a USB wired or wireless headphones, they are using their own audio driver.

When I say DTS, I meant equalizer. You can play your games in 5.1 if you have SPDIF output and the game supports it.Will that play my games in 5.1 thou ? thought i had to have dolby digital for games, thx
Yeh, thats what i want, was hoping windows driver would give me 5.1 over optical, but it dont. When I say DTS, I meant equalizer. You can play your games in 5.1 if you have SPDIF output and the game supports it.

Just using the onboard optical output on my motherboard, been ok the last 10 years on windows 7 and 10, but i had always used the motherboards audio drivers, i not installed them yet, was hoping the microsoft driver would sort it.You sure about that? It should have?
Have you double checked your soundcard meets the 5.1 requirements?

Do yourself a favour and install the official realtek drivers from the manufacturers website.
