Up for sale today is, IMHO, one of the finest hard disks ever made by ANY manufacturer, at least in terms of reliability.
It's an Ultrastar (not to be confused with the Desk/Deathstars) 2TB model. Ultrastars are the drives Hitachi does not mess around with. This has all the reliability of the high end SCSI drives without the price tag (it's also not bad performance for a 7200 RPM drive too). The 7k3000 series is a 5 platter drive which gives it awesome seek times, with a still high density at 2TBs total disk space. The most killer thing about this drive series though is that it has a 2 Million Hour Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) rating. That beats just about every consumer drive ever made in history, and is the best amongst any hard drive in existence that I know of.
It also has some pretty sweet statistics. This one has only been used 2 months, so it's got a lot of life left to give (this file server was used for cryptocurrency wallet files and only briefly before cashing out making it unneeded)
Check out these SMART details. Not a darn thing wrong! Just for reference on that bottom graph, that's not a blank reading, it occasionally does report a read error, but it hasn't for months. Most drives I've tested accumulate a few hundred per day at least, though they are all corrected in the background by drive firmware. This drive stays true to it's SCSI herritage and has none!:
As a final note, as noted I used this drive for a crypto-currency wallet. At one time, I had a lot of money in crypto assets. As such, this drive was a special order disk from Hitachi. That "1" at the end of it's model number is unusual, and indicates it features seamless drive encryption at the platter level. If you have a BIOS that supports ATA password protection, this is one of the few drives on earth that supports it fully down to the bear platter and does it properly (ie, there are no backdoor ways to circumvent the protection known, it's all done by a little onboard ARM processor). I don't expect most users to care about this feature, it's an odd one, but it's there if you want it...![Wink ;) ;)](https://tpucdn.com/forums/data/assets/smilies/wink-v1.gif)
Finally, pics of the drive itself. Only thing it has wrong with it is some dust from sitting a bit, it's still in great shape!
Asking only $65 Shipped to anywhere in the USA from Washington State. Come on people, buy it and make me happy! That's a great price!
