Hi everyone,

I recently built a custom loop with a byski 360mm copper radiator with a thickness off 30mm and wanted to know what the acceptable temperatures are for a i5-13600KF.

My PC specs:

i5-13600KF
PNY DDR5 2x16GB 6000 MAKO (XMP enabled)
MSI Z790 Gaming Pro WiFi
EVGA RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra (air cooled)
Corsair RM1000X

I already undervolted the cpu with LLC set at 4, and a negative voltage offset on the cpu core voltage.

When using prime95 small FFT with AVX im getting around 80C on my processor at 1.170v (~170W) with a ambient temperature of 22C. I feel like this is quite hot for a custom loop or am i wrong? I already tried reseating and repasting but it did not help at all. I can’t check water temp because i do not have a sensor for it but the reservoir does not feel hot to touch.

Hi,
On asus llc 4 is default.

If you want to under volt just alter power limits.

Thank you for the reply, i will take a look at it. Are the temps i get now acceptable with a custom loop?

An option that could be tried is setting the BIOS Current Excursion Protection setting to Disabled.

To quote MSI "...MSI now introduces BIOS updates for Intel 700 and 600 series motherboards, supporting the ability to disable the CEP (Current Excursion Protection) function. This adjustment allows processors to operate at lower voltages and temperatures without compromising performance."

The availability of this BIOS setting (IA CEP Support) varies according to the CPU. For a 13600KF the BIOS setting may already be there. If not and you don't have the latest BIOS then update to that and upgrade your MCE firmware at the same time. See graphic below (source: MSI)

Hi,
80c seems pretty good using a power virus like P95.

Temperatures seem fine, keep in mind a custom loop with one 360 rad is not going to perform a lot better than a similarly sized AIO, what were your expectations ?

It's never going to feel "hot", water temp wont ever go over 40C typically.

Anything below the 100c limit is acceptable. Looks like the BIOS is configured for PL1 = 4096. Aka unlimited power draw for 56 seconds.

Thank you, will check it.

I tried 2 games to check my maximum temperatures.

Cyberpunk 2077 (FPS Uncapped) max CPU temp: 55C
Sons Of The Forest (FPS Uncapped) max CPU temp: 52C

I also tried running Cinebench r23 multicore and my max temp was 68C

I found the ‘IA CEP Support’ option and disabled it
