The Lian Li Lancool 3 is one massive chassis with plenty of attention to detail, which results in an uncompromising range of compatibility no matter the type of system inside. With its four 140 mm PWM fans and up to 12 hard-drive bays or triple 360 mm radiator support, the Lancool 3 literally goes big and certainly conveys "born to excel."

thanks for the review, but the official page says that it does support up to 420mm rads on the front.
"AIO Cooling
With ample front intake, the LANCOOL III can provide strong performance for an AIO cooling build. The top fan bracket can support up to 3 x 120mm/140mm fans and offers enough thickness clearance for an AIO with a 420 radiator/fan combo."
meanwhile in your initial specs for the case it only states that it supports 360/280mm, am i missing something here?
Edit, i think that the specs on here are for the custom loop not the AIO.

Would second this notion. Would be really nice to know how such cases handle longer (420 mm frontside) or thicker rads (60 mm instead of the 25-30 mm AIO's topside).

Nice Review and Case otherwise!

It's a pity that the performance numbers of the Lancool II Mesh weren't included in any of the comparison charts. That would indicate whether Lian Li truly improved the III's design compared to its predecessor.

That said, the Lancool III's results look pretty good.

Accommodating a 360mm top radiator is a solid improvement over the II (I own one) and it looks like the overall dimensions are slightly larger since it can accommodate a rear 140mm fan and three front 140mm fans. The Lancool II's rear fan is limited to 120mm and the front panel can accept two 140mm fans or three 120mm fans.

Otherwise this is an iteration on the Lancool II design; the Lancool II is very easy to work in.

I bought a Lian Li, broke a cable (my fault to be clear), ask them if i could get one, buy one. Response: no, we don't have one to give or sell, we let you know if you have one. I'm still waiting over a year has passed.
The worst Chinese vendor i ever encountered, worst then the ebay ones. Will not buy anything from them ever again.

FFS, what is with this stupidity of having tempered glass on the side of the case that you literally cannot see anything through? What is with this stupidity of having covering panels on the same side so you don't see the wires through the tempered glass that shouldn't exist there? What a stupid and unnecessary cost addition, Lian Li could probably cut another $20 off the price if they dumped this moronic crap.

1 YEAR + for a damn cable, come on. So don't sell products then. Not an acceptable excuse at ALL. Luckily it's something you can work around, if it was something like a pcb or a glass i would have a paper weight

I agree, I own the Lancool II that also has the glass door on the backside.

That said, there's nothing preventing the owner from pimping out that side of the case with LED light strips, stickers, or other crap that they want to show off.

Personally I would have preferred a metal mesh panel on the backside for additional airflow. (shrugs)

I would prefer that panel to be metal, and I'd also probably prefer about 50mm less depth to the case, but I'm still ordering this, I think. It's a toss-up between the Torrent and this, and I'm going with this for an upcoming new build because it seems a lot more flexible.

edit: I also wish you could mount 140mm fans onto the shroud since I have some noctua A14s I'd like to get some use out of, but oh well. Maybe I'll still try anyway.

Top supports 420mm actually.
Thanks, now that I've read a few reviews elsewhere it appears that a top mounted 420mm radiator is a possibility with custom cooling loops.

This is a not a bad case for a custom loop and you can easily hide a pump below the PSU shroud provided you remove the HDD cages.

No one here knows since the case was just launched.

The Lian Li corporate website indicates that a 420mm AIO radiator/fan combo can be installed on top. As far as I can tell, there is no compatibility list of AIO products for this case.

Your best course of action would be to contact Lian Li technical support for further guidance.

Maybe you need to make more case review. Because you are comparing the Lian Li Lancool 3 with old cases so i have no idea how it compares with other cases about thermal and noise. Like very popular Corsair 5000D Airflow, Fractal Torrent, Be Quiet Silent Base 802 etc.

Damn looks like they changed the panels that used to wrap around the front which was on their prototype last year
Glass panel on the other side sucks and kinda ruins it for me, literally pointless, would rather take normal panel with sound dampening foam similar how BQ! does it
gpu bracket and 4x140mm pwm fans included is great since their fans are decent
front panel usb C being included is also great (iirc you had to order it seperately on previous model)
i appriciate the massive 185mm CPU cooler clearance

Hey @Darksaber - if you still have this test setup together, could you slap the AIO on that PSU shroud mounting and run some thermal testing there?

It's a unique mounting location, and that info could be super useful to users with multiple radiators (seperate AIOs on CPU + GPU is relatively common these days)

does a Liquid Freezer 420 fit in the top?
If you have tall RAM you'd be in trouble, going by the image with the 360

That's not a thick rad, nor the tallest ram out there

Hi.
I really liked this enclosure, thank you beautifully for this review.
However, one thing puzzles me. Actually a modification.
When I remove the 3.5" bays at the height of the power supply, I will be able to mount a 5.25" BluRay drive in this place.
Of course, the mount would be made in-house.
The question is whether the Bluray drive will fit there, preferably in a position like the disks, i.e. across the case, then by opening the door at the very bottom I am able to slide out the BD tray.

Here are the dimensions of the BD https://www.morele.net/naped-pioneer-bdr-s09xlt-637789/

I would appreciate an answer.

The clearance for the CPU is 187mm, so purely theoretically a BD drive of 180mm should fit plus the connection of 2 cables.
The width of the case is 238mm, but I suspect that this entire dimension will not be usable for the BD drive.
Sorry for my English

I currently have the Mesh ii and am looking at this case as well as the Corsair 5000D and NZXT H7 Flow.
The mesh ii is a good size case, but still a fairly cramped build, especially with mobos with huge VRM heat sinks.
So looking to go a little bigger.

specs are not accurate. The top side fits 360/420 rads, and there is no mention of the bottom mount at all.

I’m stuck between this chassis, Lian Li Lancool III and the Fractal Meshify 2, does anyone have experience with both that could offer any opinions on these cases? Right now I’m leaning slightly towards the LC3 it seems to be slightly easier to build with along with better thermals, fully removable mounts and the extra 140mm fan (4) and more 2.5” storage for $20 less. I prefer the design of the Fractal M2 and it performs almost as well and the build quality may also be better I think I prefer no hinges but I’ve never had them.

The H7 and 5000D are bigger than the Meshify 2? I think the Lancool 3 is slightly bigger but not by much.

Edit: Oh you mean Lancool 2 mesh, my fault.
