Hello!

I just recently replaced my RX 6800 with an RX 7900 XTX and due to the size of the damn thing I had to remove my network card from its slot and put into a full size pcie slot instead.

As a result of this, it doesn't work! I have checked online and it would appear that it should work just fine but I am unable to get it to work.

Would anyone have any ideas as to why something like this would be happening and how I could try and resolve it?!

You may have to enable lane splitting in the BIOS. That M2 slot and the 2nd PCIe 16 slot may be sharing the same lanes.

check your manual, PCIE-3 is listed as "N/A" in a single slot non crossfire configuration

OP will have to enable Crossfire then. You are right I just checked and they are both connected to the CPU. Since he is running a M2 (based on the board layout) he is already losing 4 lanes anyway.

I will put this to the test once I have time tonight and if I can even find the crossfire option anywhere!

In the BIOS. It should be in the Advanced tab under settings. I don't have your board so maybe look for a review where they walk through the BIOS. I know that TPU does.

Evening,

So I went into the BIOS and I cannot find anything to do with Crossfire sadly... I don't see it anywhere.. unless I am blind and/or thick out " Highly likely "

I did see something which sparks my interest.. maybe there might be something here??

1712350628426.png

I did check out the online manual PDF file and I could not find any mention as to where to activate it.. It does clearly state that AMD Crossfire is supported.. and that's about it!

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Or should I just dive back into the BIOS and perhaps pay a bit more attention to it?!

Thank you!

PCIe/GFX Lanes configuration. Select crossfire from there or it might show you the actual lane splitting.

What WiFi card, exactly? At least for BT, most cards need USB.
AFAIK, Some Add-In-Cards/adapters have a USB controller and PCIe switch on-card, to fully-connect w/ the TypeA/E M.2 Multi-Radio (Wifi, BT, etc) card.

Perhaps, try forcing the PCIE3 slot to Gen 1 or Gen 2 speeds? Maybe it's 'freaking out' in the 'handshake'?

At least by the documentation, that 2nd PCIe slot, is CPU-connected and x4 gen3. It doesn't appear to NEED config.

The block diagram and manual overall, make no mention of 'shared lanes'. It should 'just work'.

Since the 2nd PCIe slot (x4Elec./x16Phys.) slot is CPU-connected, this isn't some 'not handshaking through PROM21' issue.
In fact, the wificard previously seemed 'fine' off the chipset's x1 slot.

Howdy,

So I checked the PCIe/GFX Lanes configuration and it shows
8x8
8x4x4
4x4x4x4

I doubt changing anything here is going to solve my issue???

@LabRat 891
Thank you for that! Nice detective work right there!

It's good to know what you have found.

I am unable to find PCIE3 to reduce it to GEN 2.
I was snooping around the BIOS just to find anything but sadly there just isn't anything to be found that can allow me to change PCIE3 to Gen 2.. It only allows me to select GEN1 to 5 but only PCIE 16x abd PCIE 4x only and not separate!

I am going to dive back into the BIOS and hopefully just stumble upon something!!

Yes it will. Choose the 8x4x4 that will mean that the GPU will get 8 lanes your 2nd M2 drive will get 4 lanes and your WIFI card will get 4 lanes.

Hi guys,

Sadly after testing this out. The issue persists!!

I am thinking that I am forced to just go and buy a wifi dongle thing just to get me connected again.

I do at least have an ethernet cable but since I work from home i need have plugged into my work laptop all day which is a pity.

I was also thinking.. Is there some sort of.. extender...or router that I could plug directly into the bedroom and hook up the ethernet cable to that and then the extender has 2 ethernet ports that support 2 gigabit connections so that I could hook up both my work laptop and desktop at the same time?
Not sure if that is making sense.. I have an ethernet port that goes from the wall where the modem is so.. I have an ethernet cable plugged into the 10 giga bit connection to the wall. and from my bedroom and I can use the ethernet port by hooking up another ethernet cable. I feel as though I am confusing myself with this but I hope someone understands what I am trying to say?

After thinking about it. Your board comes with a WIFI M2 slot right? That could be part of the issue but should not be.

I don't believe my version supports wifi, I am pretty sure that there is a wifi model which I did not buy since I had this network card!

you can get a switch, they are fairly cheap enough, and have both laptop and PC Ethernet connected
you can turn an old router into a switch, its fairly easy and there should be online guides for the specific brand of router
USB dongle is probably the easiest work around

If you really have the ASRock B650 Pro RS you can use a wifi M2 card since the IO-shield is prepared for it and the m2 e-key slot is just below your GPU labeled M2 WIFI.

So you do have a spare 1x M.2/E-Key (PCIe, 2230) slot.

@Dragokar - Great! I wasn't aware of this but thank you! This certainly options up more options for me going forward now at least.

@dirtyferret - Perhaps you are right, No idea what POE is! I do however have a 2 Gigabit Connection so I want something that supports higher than the standard 1 gigabit ethernet ports! I may need to spend more than 15-30 bucks to make that happen.

I suspect you will need a 2.5G switch, probably something like the QNAP-QSW-1105-5T. Not cheap but might be justifiable if performance and stability is important. Amazon can often be the place to buy them at the lowest price.

@Irish_PXzyan just be aware depending on the WiFi chip if you are planning to use Intel WiFi 7/BE they won't run because of a limitation from Intel, but WiFi 6/6E should run fine and if you get a Realtek it should work should fine.

Also avoid Mediatek if you can a lot of users on reddit and other places have reported problems with the Mediatek WiFi7 AMD wants to use.

@dirtyferret - Perhaps you are right, No idea what POE is! I do however have a 2 Gigabit Connection so I want something that supports higher than the standard 1 gigabit ethernet ports! I may need to spend more than 15-30 bucks to make that happen.
Power over Ethernet, for example if you had a VOIP phone you wanted to power without the power supply. Like I said, just do a search for your needs in this case a switch with 2.5 Gbps ports. The one you linked above will do the job.
