Feels almost like I'm one of the few who actually like FO3 and FO4 (the Bethesda era). Granted, I've never played the original isometric 3D games, so I have nothing to compare to.

As for CDPR developing a Fallout game. as much as I respect their work, I can't see them doing that.

Yep, it was delayed because of the next gen update, they want to fix it first, so that it works with the update, people are doing it in their spare time, so it will take a while

I liked FO4 the best, having played the isometric ones first years ago and later the Bethesda ones. I don't remember much of FO1 or Tactics, I did like FO2. I didn't like New Vegas.
FO2 was good. To me, those original Fallout games felt a bit like Final Fantasy or Krondor.

I also liked Doom 3/RoE by far over all the other Dooms so maybe I am just a contrarian.

I mean rights wise isn't your option pretty much unlikely as all getout?

Good idea? Yeah sure. Sadly though don't see it happening.
Yeah, copyright abolishment after 5 years should've been the great law practice. But alas.
It's an IP, umbrella coverage for copyright, trademark, patents, you name it, it's theirs. Beyond the absurdly of decision just based on business principals for CDProkekt Red you don't know their development time table for a Fallout 5 with Fallout 76 still making money.

Obsidian and Bethesda are both owned by Microsoft. So... Yeah, Microsoft will be making the next Fallout with whatever defunct developer name on it.
wonder if there is still some bad blood with Obsidian and Bethesda on payment for New Vegas. Bethesda did give them a bonus but not the full amount if they hit the 85 metacritic score

Rockstar Games.
RDR2 is basically an RPG.
If Rockstart goes Fallout... let them make their own IP. They can do so much better than the overinflated bobblehead sauce right now, and going back in time wouldn't work either. Not distinctive enough. The amount of post apocalyptic setting games is too high.

CDPR should make Cyberpunk 2078.

Say what you want about the launch - and someone has already said it - but the combined loss of REDengine, their narrative skill and their artistic cohesion in a NightCity-like environment is a harsh blow that this industry won't fully understand until its drowning in underperforming UE5 debacles.

No, CDPR should do CDPR games. They're more like old school Bioware than either Obsidian or Bethsoft anyhow. Keep making incredible witcher games, or give us a AAA Shadowrun title plz.

Obsidian sort of showed their hand with The Outer Worlds, it was a perfectly mediocre FPRPG, and not nearly on the level of Fallout New Vegas.

I agree with earlier sentiments that Fallout 1/2/NV are basically the ideal trilogy, with FO 3/4 kind of being their own thing.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Fallout Chicago, or Fallout Texas, or Fallout North West... There are a lot of places Fallout can go thanks to th breadth of the story and themes.

There is not. It's not like game developers are petulant children* who hold grudges for 20 years, those are gamers. And even if that happened, they're both owned by Microsoft and ultimately, answer to the same boss.

I would say no, CDPR should focus on their own IP. They still need to prove ditching their in house engine for UE was a good move. I've never liked UE other than what The Coalition has done with it and Epic themselves. Rocksteady did awesome work with UE3 but only on console pc varient wash trash for a long time.

Disclaimer, I've never liked a single fallout game and likely never will.

I haven't really liked a Bethesda game since Oblivion, I did like Starfield better than Skyrim/Fallout 4 though.

I'm not a world class expert but I genuinely don't see that possible.

No, CDPR should do CDPR games
This is what I call "people don't try reading carefully."

I do not try to make CDPR make a Fallout game. I was just telling they are about to be better than whoever made Fallout games before. There is no "they should," there is only "they can do it better."
I've never liked UE
Basically the same, UE games looked questionable to say the least. Not that I played a lot of them but still.

I have no doubt they could make a better fallout game than Bethesda with the framework of Cyberpunk what I mean is I'd rather them make Witcher 4/CP sequal which thankfully is what they are doing.

CP sold better than the Witcher 3 in the same time frame (over 25m to date) and Phantom Liberty has an 89 metacritic score. You are entitled to your opinion but you are in the minority for CP.

CP 2077 nearly destroyed CDPR after launch:
1713793564019.png

PL was a redemption for them but they only managed to achieve it after getting new creative director that used to work for Bioware.

While I wouldn't say that Cyberpunk sequel is doomed to fail I would say any future release from CDPR is now judged based on terrible CP 2077 launch.

And no I wouldn't want CDPR to make a Fallout sequel because:

MS owns Bethesda that owns the Fallout IP
MS owns inExile Entertainment with Brian Fargo as the CEO
MS owns Obsidian Entertainment which made the best Fallout game released under Bethesda's ownership.

MS should get inExile and Obsidian together and make a proper AAA Fallout game that would be released under Xbox Games Studio brand.

Fallout soundtrack is anything but boring. One of the few game sound design that perfectly matches its theme.
Funny how 3 & 4 only have old 50s music, when Fallout 2 makes it clear Tool, Tina Turner, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana existed in the Fallout universe, or some characters singing lines from Sugar Ray, Nine Inch Nails, or Elton John.
Maybe all the records that were found are from the 50s or earlier, but I find this a little odd.

I prefer the ambient tracks from 1 or 2, since it emphasizes everything is gone and destroyed since the nukes dropped, the old world died.

The 50s (and 40s and even 30s IIRC) tunes primarily show up when listening to the radio, which kind of makes thematic sense as the FO United States was culturally stuck in the '50s until the bombs fell. Those would likely be the only recordings 3dog and Travis would have access to, as you noted. When it comes to world BGM though, the Bethsoft titles aren't nearly as far off from 1/2, if less ambient and opressive-sounding.

I wasn't talking sales, I was talking technical condition. The game is still leagues behind the original plan despite 3+ years passed and more than seventeen patches applied. Crashes, bugs, glitches, pre-alpha staged gameplay elements, never implemented features, godawful FSR implementation, you name it. The sequel is doomed to be even more broken in my opinion. And even worse selling because people become more aware of their wallets lately.

MS should get inExile and Obsidian together and make a proper AAA Fallout game
I thought I've seen all delirium in the world but no, you proved me wrong. For m$ to release anything, literally anything decent, it will take dropping the whole company philosophy outta the window. Best case scenario this product will be able to run on 2 PCs at launch.

Fallout is not really culturally stuck in the 50s, it is just an interpretation of the future imagined by people from the 1950s in terms of aesthetics, but culture still moved on, albeit in different ways.
Though as I mentioned there has been music in Fallout, especially New Vegas, from as late as the 90s, mentions of other famous groups in the original games, so I still don't really get why only the old records are playing apart from just strictly finding old records. My best guess is simply that using iconic retro songs were a nice introduction to the universe in the original games, but it kinda became part of the games identity since the 3D games with the radios, even though pre-war stuff was almost all destroyed. Same as the Gothic and Art Deco influences in buildings and design getting progressively replaced. There was a significant shift at some point.
It's also possible more modern music was stored on mediums that didn't survive the war, that it was censored, or simply remained part of the underground culture.

Back on topic for the thread though, I'd prefer if some smaller studio that actually cared about the lore of the original games would make another Fallout, maybe a reboot of Van Buren, or actually attempting at making new lore in different areas.
I wouldn't mind seeing a Fallout Chicago, or Fallout Texas, or Fallout North West... There are a lot of places Fallout can go thanks to th breadth of the story and themes.
Agreed, I think it would be fun to explore the same timeline on the Chinese side more...

Not just aesthetics, technology itself took different route. The electronics-heavy, autotune-dependant moden music is antithetical world still stuck with CRTs and AM radio.

I do not think medium survivability is a (huge) issue. Standard storage medium for the pre-war world was holotapes, of which many seem to have survived the war (in the same vein terminals did. Most were probably nuked, but enough remained to give a glimpse of the past).

I think the only way anyone could really capture the the musical taste of a Fallout world is to invent whole new genres and styles of music following the "what if" recipe. But since that would probably be too much work for questionable rewards, sticking to music from the point in history were things diverge is the next best thing.
