I mean, they failed to deliver proper driving mechanic. Cyberpunk 2077's vehicular situation is still worse than an average racing arcade game from early 2000s.

In Fallout, vanilla at least, there is no such thing as driving. And I don't mind this cesspool of bugs that much, would still be less buggy than Bethesda's Fallouts. Lore-wise, we don't get anything truly canonical either so it also won't get worse. They know how to provide quite stellar retrofuturism atmosphere so it won't be an issue. Cars look like bricks from 1950s, too.

This would've also fixed the boring soundtrack. CDPR are großmeisters of making the game sound top class.

This also might be a Night City lored Fallout game: imagine Arasaka fighting Militech on a nuclear option level, eventually ridiculing the whole humankind. Ghoulified scavs yelling in broken Russian... Nice innit?

I mean rights wise isn't your option pretty much unlikely as all getout?

Good idea? Yeah sure. Sadly though don't see it happening.

I think Sunblink should develop Fallout 5. They did a great job with Hello Kitty Island Adventure. Maybe Sunblink should make the next Metro game too. :):p:D

But yeah, the Fallout franchise is Bethesda IP. The chance of someone else working on it is probably around 0.1% especially with the popularity of the recent TV adaptation.

And based on recent interview comments by Fallout director Todd Howard it sounds like Bethesda is firmly committed to keeping development in house.

Yeah, copyright abolishment after 5 years should've been the great law practice. But alas.

Someone other than Bethesda. I'm not convinced CDPR is the right fit, though. From my perspective, a smaller studio is where development should go. Huge developers need huge sales, and the OG thematic pillars of Fallout don't really lend themselves to guaranteed huge sales. The titles that "felt right" to me (1, 2, NV) were kind of a slow burn as far as acceptance goes. NV got a big boost as a followup to 3, but it took a decade to gain the reputation it has now. 3 and 4, by contrast, continue to lose luster as time goes on. Bethsoft wants and needs their games to be all things to all people and sell in big numbers, but to do Fallout "right" doesn't lend well to that.

Unless its a complete overhaul of the formula, I'm not interested.

I don't really think Todd can make another kind of game to be fair.

Hot take: Fallout should not get another game. Everything that could be said and done with its themes has been. A reminder that it’s not about surviving the apocalypse with cool plasma guns and funny ghouls, it’s not even about mid-20th century Americana, it’s about society moving on and rebuilding and what said apocalypse changed, if anything, about human condition. The trifecta of 1-2-NV is, frankly, a fairly complete series. And Lonesome Road, for all its gameplay issues, is a story cap for the franchise in my opinion. Bethesda has no idea what makes Fallout what it is and the miserable pile of mediocrity that was F4 proved it if anyone had any doubts after F3. Obsidian these days, I feel, also wouldn’t have what it takes. In fact, amusingly enough, NV WAS their last truly great game. And that was almost 15 years ago. I guess inXile could be given a shot, Wasteland 2 and 3 were… okay and they are also under MS. But frankly - just let the series rest. We don’t NEED to have endless sequels to everything.

I agree, I'm astonished at how many people here still don't realize the IP rivalry issues have been dissolved by now, and practically all disputes between the franchise's creators have been amicably settled. This endless bickering of who's a better Fallout developer has never been more pointless because if anything, an eventual Fallout 5 could be a joint effort between all studios involved with the franchise throughout all stages of its creation.

Obsidian and inXile (Brian Fargo's studio) were both integrated into Xbox Game Studios, and while ZeniMax Media retains a level of self-management, as with Microsoft's largest acquisitions such as Activision Blizzard King and Mojang AB, they're all part of Microsoft's gaming empire now. It's perfectly reasonable to believe that Microsoft could get them working on a huge project together, and have everyone from the developers of Doom to the developers of Minecraft available with their input for it.

Microsoft's portfolio of soft houses is absolutely insane at this point in time. I have great expectations for the future.

There are Fallout Sonora, Resurrection and Nevada if you want a hit of that sweet classic Fallout. Those TC mods are, frankly, better than most commercial releases the series has seen.

Even if you're right (which you're not) it doesn't matter.

I explicitly stated what would be better for the F5 in my opinion. Someone who made the better Fallout without even realising it.

The idea of the world managing itself after the end thereof could progress to something more in an upcoming game. And it might be a great game. Stopping series development only for the sake of making one ideologist happy doesn't sound as a bright idea. I'm open for unorthodox games.

And that’s a fine opinion to have. I fail to see how CP2077 is in any way a Fallout game, but you do you.

I think we might have fundamentally differing views on such an approach. I see no point in making a Fallout game where the only thing “Fallout” about it is the name. We’ve seen what such an approach leads to in this industry. It’s not a great one. It creates things like Resident Evil 6, Dead Space 3, Diablo 3 and, yes, Bethesda Fallouts culminating with 76.

There are Fallout Sonora, Resurrection and Nevada if you want a hit of that sweet classic Fallout. Those TC mods are, frankly, better than most commercial releases the series has seen.

Aware of the mods (my favorite is Tale of Two Wastelands that combines Fallout 3 and New Vegas plus all DLCs into one big game under the NV engine), but really, I'm one of the unpopular opinion that Bethesda's Fallouts are ones that are great, both 3 and 4. 3 was really gritty, while 4 hit way too close to home for me, I really enjoyed its atmosphere, voiced character and to top it off, the fact that Nate/Nora aren't blank slate characters. But I realize most "true Fallout fans" would put me on a pitchfork for that one

Cyberpunk was perfect at launch, updates broke it. Change my mind.
Linux devs should develop Windows 12.

Fallout London is coming out this month and if it is everything they make it out to be, it'll pretty much be another Fallout game all on its own.

It was never going to be what they promised at the game awards reveal with that scripted "gameplay" video and it still has game breaking bugs that were there on release. It was never perfect and never will be perfect. It's a mid game with pretty pictures and crappy writing.

No. I don't think CDPR would make a good "Fallout." They may be able to make a good game, but I don't believe it would be a Fallout game, and fans would hate it just because it deviates from whatever formula they have in mind for a Fallout game, like some did back when 3 was made.

Honestly, I don't mind another Todd Howard Fallout. I liked 3 and 4.

Fallout soundtrack is anything but boring. One of the few game sound design that perfectly matches its theme.

I just hope the overall dialogue VO turns out to better than the what they demo'ed in their latest videos. It felt off for some reason...
I also hope the upcoming official update doesn't break it. But I guess that's too much to expect from Bethesda...

Although I'm not a big fallout fan but the studio that developed Metro or STALKER would be a good shout in my opinion.
