One of the fans from my MSI GTX 560ti video card stopped spinning, I sent it out for RMA. They replaced the heatsink and fan and shipped it back. This was in July of 13'. I bought a new card and used this one in my sons computer. He got the BSOD and after a few tests including, older drivers, newer drivers and a fresh install of windows where nothing worked, I decided to stick his old card back in. His computer works fine now and I kinda chocked it up to an insufficient power supply.

I just build a new pc for my wife. I purchased a 750W psu to make sure I had the power in it. After I was 100 percent certain everything was built and working properly I decided to stick that old video card into the new computer. Without nvidea drivers installed I can get in to windows. After I install the drivers i get a BSOD that I will include in a pic. Un-install drivers and remove the card and I can get back in on the onboard video.

I was wondering if they screwed up the cards bios when changing the heatsinks on the card. was looking into bios upgrading..

After I un-installed the nvidea drivers I was able to get back into windows and run the GPU-Z.

I'm just wondering if this can tell me anything. Is it possible the video card bios got messed up?

Looks like a defective card due to the visual artifacts on the BSOD, as well as the classic "card works without drivers but crashes when drivers are installed" issue. Looks like it might either be defective video RAM or cracked solder joints.

It says on the top of the box thingy R50. Any idea what it is capacitor? I would love to solder a new one, any idea where I could find one?

It worked fine until you put it into your son's computer? Are you certain you didn't do it without realizing it? Dropping the card, hitting it on something (like the computer chassis,) or something?

A chipped component wouldn't work in one machine but not in the other, so I'm trying to rule out personal responsibility before recommending a complaint to MSI. Traditionally, MSI has been very forthcoming with RMAs for me and this sounds kind of unusual if they gave it back to you in this state.

if u can't install the driver properly with this MSI GTX560Ti get in contact with MSI bcs this here looks more like a defective card, even they changed the cooler and send it back, i still wonder if they even tested the card before shipping it back to u, if they didn't that would explain why u didn't get a new card.

I would love to hear from the MSI rep. I got approved for an RMA and its already boxed ready to ship back. I'm not trying to get something for nothing here. Aquinus you mention maybe I dropped it or hit it on something.. Never. I am so careful whenever I touch anything in regards to computers you really have no idea. Perhaps through heat due to the broken fan back then it didn't fully break off till after shipping. My son is only 9 and he NEVER would go near the inside of a computer.

specterm, i really hope MSI will test the card to see if they can experience the same thing as u do with this card.

if it was me handling this RMA i would do a few quick tests and one or two machines to confirm this card is defective and then get and a replacement out, but sadly i am not working for MSI or any major company i am working in a small IT Company but i do have RMA's on hardware, network products and more.

That's an inductor (a device that stores electrical energy in a magnetic field) and it appears that some of the ferrite core has been broken off. Seems like it would have taken a significant amount of force to break, and it's possible that it may not actually be the issue and rather solder joints were broken or maybe even one or more SMD components are missing too if the card experienced a hard shock/drop. Good luck with the RMA.

I know its easy to point fingers at me.. maybe msi wont honor the RMA. Not sure. The card is barely worth 100 dollars and I just spent 15 to ship it out. If they refuse to honor an RMA they will charge me to ship it back then I will remove the heatsink and sell it on ebay to recover some of my money. Who knows maybe theres more wrong with it. Its out of my hands at this point.

That's a choke/inductor. You can get them replaced in a motherboard repair shop in no time if you are out of warranty. And also try complaining to MSI support.

I had an update. My card was RMA'd and my last update on the rma site was "Sales/RMA NG buffer for repair run"

It looks to me they may have just mailed me a refurbished card. The heat sink is just a single fan and the card actually looks new.

I am very happy with the support from MSI. Honestly... I dont think I will ever buy another name brand.
