As the title says, wht's your latest tech Freebie (must have cost nothing) be it found, gifted or given. Let's see them awesome freebies.

I'll start with this nice LG 3D Blueray player, with a built in recording, onto a WD 1TB HDD, and a twin tuner, for watch one and record another channel. Just popped the top off in case it needed a clean inside. It's playing a DVD at least fine with no skipping.

A 14¨ Sony Trinitron crt TV for retro CD-i gaming.

A red transparent OEM Sony PS2 memory card and a PS2 DVD remote from my brother. :)

edit: And the remote works flawlessly on my SCPH-50004 silver console. :toast:

Damn, a CRT that small would still fit in my apartment and NES & PS2 gaming would be way better than on my modern flatscreen.

I inherited a hunka junka pentium businessesy type rig (the kind you set the tiny monitor on top of)that's like using a 56k modem online. It came with a working Canon printer that's worth more than the entire computer to put it in perspective. Yay me.

Edit- yeah, I'm the one that gets to throw away all of the families tech crap...cuz I'm the IT guy!
Edit#2- but most aren't bright enough to bother consulting the IT guy prior to making a purchase...hence the above tech jalopy.

I apologize. I'm really not as jaded as I seem :P

Uncle gifted me a non functional 990x evo r2 (with an 8350 black box) and repaired it.
Did the same with a stealth 700 max gen2

Got a free ADATA S750 1TB SATA SSD as a reward for being the first person to arrive at a video game event at my uni. I now have 3TB of total storage that I don't know what to do with. Can download lots of games now, I guess.

Found an Asus Z170-K with a 6600K & GTX 960 Strix 4GB in the trash. Need to check them later. :toast:

edit: Found also a Thermaltake tower cooler (+fan clips) in the metal recycling bin. Only few fins bent.
edit: Currently updating the board's BIOS, POSTed fine immediately. The socket was also on perfect shape.

The "Kogan" branded 34" 3440x1440 144hz Ultrawide I used to own that I sold to a mate cheap some 2.5 years ago has been gifted back to me. It developed an issue and he's already upgraded to a 32:9 bohemoth and gave this one back in case I can fix it.

There's an obvious edge lit backlight issue, but otherwise functions exactly as expected. It owes me nothing now so I'm considering either repurposing it as is, or opening it up and trying to repair the edge lighting.

Found this in the trash at work, it works when plugged in but the battery won't hold charge and new maps for it cost 4 X as much as these currently sell for

Received a Crucial T700 2TB Gen5 NVMe SSD as a gift from a friend that organised with Crucial to send me one out.
It was totally unexpected & when I was told a package from Crucial was going to be delivered to me, I was expecting maybe a 1TB MX500 SATA or 1TB P3 Plus NVMe SSD at the very most. You can imagine my surprise when I opened the package to find a brand new T700 2TB Gen5 SSD.
My current Z790 motherboard doesn’t support PCIe Gen5 performance so will get maximum Gen4 speeds out of it when I get round to adding it into my main rig this week sometime.

Now I wonder if I have any friends that are willing to arrange a Nvidia RTX4080 Super or 4090 to be sent to me

back 2011 it "could be useful" as phone screens were smaller. But, useful for cars of course. One could succesfully roadwalk with some Nokia Nseries and use GPS&3G lmfao.
Who use offline maps in 2k24 (and "buy" actually maps for cars built-in navis - dumba**es. sorry.)

I picked up a working PS4 with 2 controllers so I'm pondering what I should do with it.

Play of course! I bought mine last year from my little brother and with PS+, there's a pretty good game library to play.

Radeon 7000 from my uncle. Need to dust off my AGP test system and check how well GF3 Ti 200 OC wipes the floor with that GF2 MX200-ish card. :D

Out of the local trash.

I think there are 7 of them. Just as well as I need some for my case back at home.

You can never have too many slot covers! :D I hate how in some modern cheaper cases, they aren't reusable.

They look new as well. Brother must have built himself quite a baller of a machine if he's tossed away slot covers. Either that or a mining rig. I think electricity is obscenely cheap where I am located

Got a Steam Deck from the missus for Christmas.

How come I only found this thread now? :D

I took the covers from a pretty bad looking Define XL which I got for free years ago, the classic Fractal white covers work in almost every build visually. Accidentally also left some black Fractal covers as I sold my third PC and forgot to put them back. Luckily it was ok for the seller if it has few covers missing.

I went to the local recycling bins to dump aluminum cans a couple of weeks ago and found this electric lawnmower. It works perfectly and just needed a little cleaning! The sad part is that the bins were set on fire for the 3rd time in the last year right after this find. People also were dumping mattresses, couches, recliners and other non-recyclable garbage at the bins. The bins have been permanently removed from from the location! The bins were a great source for unwanted electronics, tools, furniture, clothes, and other treasures for years, Sadly gone forever.:(

A good dumpster find is always a nice find! Still remember when I found a Z170-K + 6600K + GTX 960 and they were all fully working ones.

I shucked an old single drive WD Mybook NAS that I gave away a few years ago and got back yesterday and got a 2TB Green (WD20EURS) out of it which was pretty typical in those devices at the time.

Diagnozed my friend's PC (the RAM turned out defective), got a Seasonic S12-IIB 520W & S12-III 500W for the effort. Need to test them later, now need to test an EVGA G2 750W which I got in a box full of tech stuff.

A freebie as previously I won a Fractal ION Gold 550W in a giveaway, had to RMA it and they sent a lower quality replacement. Can't still complain as I didn't pay nothing from it.

Though at least currently I don't have any use for this, may sell it as well if I can get a decent sum of cash. Costs about 75EUR new.

Complete OEM computer with RX 480 and 7600K IIRC. Haven't checked it to be fully working.

If the case fits regular motherboards I might build a R5 3600/RX 480 setup in there.
