I built the entire outside out of wood. The 1" support beams are black walnut, and the panels are oak. I took the motherboard tray and the drive bays out of my old case and screwed them into the support beams. I had all the wood, so the whole thing was free for me to build.

What did you use as a finish (Polyurethane, Polyacrylic, etc.) ?
Polyurethane will yellow from UV exposure. For this reason, it is used regularly on oak as when it yellows it gives the wood that "Golden Oak" look.
This, of course, is undesirable with other light colored woods (eg. Maple). Polyacrylic will not yellow with UV exposure.
Polyurethane, however, is more water resiliant than Polyacrylic, so if you want greater water protection and and do not care about UV exposure, use Polyurethane.
I have a bunch of Maple and Brazilian Cherry at home. I think I may have to give you a little competition. ;)
I forgot to add that if you ever want a high-gloss mirror like finish, use shellac. Difficult to work with but the best for that type of finish.
You need clean up all component and hide cables betters.
