ASUS Intros RT-AX86U Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 Router that's GeForce Now-Recommended

ASUS today introduced the RT-AX86U, it's latest performance-segment dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) router. Armed with a triple-antenna setup (excluding a 4th discrete antenna on the PCB), the router offers dual-band speeds of up to 5700 Mbps (861 Mbps 2.4 GHz + 4804 Mbps 5 GHz), along with support for the latest WPA3 security standards. The router is NVIDIA GeForce NOW-recommended for the best possible latencies and bandwidth needed by the cloud gaming service.

The wired connections setup on this router is interesting: there are two WAN ports, one of which is 1 GbE, and the other 2.5 GbE. On the LAN-side, you get four 1 GbE connections. Besides the single 2.5 GbE connection, ASUS claims the router can aggregate bandwidth from two 1 GbE upstream connections (there aren't too many gigabit-fiber ISPs that provide fiber cable switches with 2.5 GbE ports). The router uses a 1.80 GHz quad-core Arm processor with 1 GB RAM and 256 MB flash memory size. The router also features a 5 Gbps USB 3.2 gen 1 port, to which you can plug in any USB mass-storage class device that can be shared across the network. The company didn't reveal pricing.

ASUS Deploying AI for Noise Cancellation Technology in Upcoming ROG Strix Go 2.4 Headset

ASUS- upcoming ROG Strix Go 2.4 headset may well grab more headlines than this one here at TechPowerUp, since the company has decided to integrate the latest buzzword in their upcoming product (missing is a "Gaming" addition). According to ASUS, the ROG Strix Go 2.4-s bi-directional boom-mic uses a noise-cancelling algorithm to block out up to 95% of unwanted noise, ranging from rage-induced keyboard mash-ups through nagging significant others (just kidding, they never nag). ASUS says that the algorithm they've deployed in these noise-cancellation features has been trained on a database of over 50 million records for tens of thousands of hours. But noise-cancellation with no discernible output sound quality wouldn't a driving product make, and so ASUS has included their 40 mm Asus Essence drivers on these headphones, which ASUS says have a penchant for Bass, and have been conditioned in an airtight chamber for reduction of any parasitic sounds.

Corsair Details Slipstream, Unique New Wireless Peripheral Technology

Corsair at its CES 2019 presser detailed key in-house, under-the-hood innovations that will be part of its gaming peripherals for years to come. The first of these is called Slipstream, and is developed to improve latencies (in turn responsiveness) of wireless gaming peripherals such as keyboards, mice, and even headsets. It combines existing physical-layer technologies such as 2.4 GHz radio, with a proprietary protocol-layer by Corsair that delivers twice the packets per millisecond, thereby reducing latency. This protocol-layer is different from Bluetooth, although all Slipstream devices will maintain compatibility with Bluetooth.

At the heart of what Corsair is trying to do, is a technique called IFS (intelligent frequency switching), a process that continuously scans the spectrum for radio channels that are most optimal (have least interference and best strength), and switches to that frequency/channel. This switching happens at a sub-millisecond rate, and the effective response-times claimed by Corsair are impressive - 0.5 ms to move a packet of data from the peripheral to the receiver (or vice versa). Corsair is also working on improving wireless signal strength of all devices that implement Slipstream, so your peripherals can work flawlessly up to 20 meters (65 ft) away from your PC (bodes well for living room gamers).

Corsair Launches Wireless Version of the K63 Tenkeyless, Cherry MX Red Keyboard

Corsair has launched a revised version of their K63 tenkeyless keyboard. The revised version brings with it support for wireless connection protocols (Bluetooth 4.2 (2.4 GHz and 128-bit AES wireless encryption), which means that users will now have one less wire running from their desk to their PC. In another bid to differentiate this revision from the wired one is that the per-key red LED lighting in the wired K63 has been replaced with blue LED illumination for this wireless version - another way for consumers not to be confused and know exactly which keyboard to buy. Corsair is also giving users who prefer it the option to go wired via a USB connection, however.

Other features include a 1,000 Hz poll rate, N key rollover and 100% anti-ghosting capabilities. There's also support for Corsair's "Utility Engine". The 91 keys (with the same Cherry MX Red switches as found on the wired K63) fit into a W 366 mm x 173 mm x H 41 mm frame, and the unit weighs about 1.09 kg. This model is compatible with the Lapdog solution, if that's something you care about, and should be available around the $109 mark.
