This Week in Gaming (Week 12)

Week 12 is really delivering a baker's dozen when it comes to big game releases, as we have both new and old big releases this week, with this week's AAA release being an open world action RPG game. However, if that's not your cup of tea, then we still have a week packed to the brim with big releases, although it starts off with a bug-sized indie game, but its theme carries over to the next release and this game somehow involves robots. This is followed by a game where you might want to have someone's hand to hold, as it can get a bit scary, even if it's a remake. Towards the end of this week we have another major release, which also involves robots and was a big hit on the PlayStation consoles. We end the week on a somewhat similar theme as the first two game releases of the week, even though it's on a much grander scale.

Dragon's Dogma 2 / This week's AAA release / Friday 22 March
Dragon's Dogma is a single player, narrative driven action-RPG series that challenges the players to choose their own experience - from the appearance of their Arisen, their vocation, their party, how to approach different situations and more. Now, in this long-awaited sequel, the deep, explorable fantasy world of Dragon's Dogma 2 awaits. On your journey, you'll be joined by Pawns, mysterious otherworldly beings, in an adventure so unique you will feel as if accompanied by other players while on your own adventure. All of these elements are elevated further through physics technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and the latest in graphics, to create a truly immersive fantasy world in Dragon's Dogma 2. Alone in the Dark Gets New In-Engine Trailer and Full PC System Requirements

THQ Nordic has released a new in-engine trailer for the upcoming new Alone in the Dark game, showing a bit more details about the game story and characters. In addition, THQ Nordic has also released full PC system requirements for the game, that will launch on March 20th.

According to the developers, the game will have different story endings and characters in the game will react differently, depending on who you choose to play as, Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood. Creative Director, Mikael Hedberg, was keen to note that the most important part of the game is the place, as the game is a haunted mansion story at its very core, so they needed to make sure to "recreate Derceto again".

THQ Nordic Reschedules Alone in the Dark's Launch, Arriving Early 2024

Horror games thrive on the delicate balance of tension, exploiting our vulnerability and the eerie embrace of solitude. Envision yourself traversing a dimly lit house in the dead of night, where faint whispers and unidentifiable noises send shivers down your spine. Now, picture this unsettling scenario not alone, but accompanied by a group of 28 intriguing individuals. The fear factor dwindles, doesn't it? Hence, the anticipated release of Alone in the Dark will gracefully step away from the chaotic October 2023 launch window.

Reasons
Our intention is to avoid competing with the wake of Alan's epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spiderman. We aim to truly remain as Alone in the Dark as possible. To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been rescheduled to unveil its horrors on January 16th, 2024. This extension will serve a dual purpose: not only will it permit us to meticulously perfect the gaming experience, but it will also grant us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable releases of October.

THQ Nordic Announces Acquisition of IP to "Alone in the Dark", "Act of War" Franchises

THQ Nordic today announced they had acquired rights to two different IPs from Atari Europe SAS. The agreement extends to both the Alone in the Dark and Act of War franchises - of which the first is the most well-known.

Alone in the Dark, with its survival horror archetype, saw early instalments of the series based on the writings of master horror storyteller H. P. Lovecraft. Later entries in the series drew inspiration from other sources including voodoo, the Wild West, and the works of H. R. Giger. Act of War, though, is a different beast: a story-driven, real-time strategy game developed by Eugen Systems that featured a fine-grained story penned by NYT bestselling author Dale Brown. Daily operations in the two newly-acquired franchises (sales and distribution, evaluation of sequels & new content etc.) will be done via THQ Nordic GmbH in Vienna, Austria. Here's hoping this eventually leads to a new lease of life for these currently estranged franchises (and the real time strategy genre in itself).
