China-exclusive Intel Core i7-13790F Comes with a Little Extra Cache

Earlier this week, we learned about the existence of the Intel Core i5-13490F, a China-exclusive processor SKU that's designed to strike "just the right" price-performance against AMD's Ryzen 5 7600 series, and possibly even the Ryzen 7 7700. It turns out that the i5-13490F isn't the only such SKU, there's also the Core i7-13790F. Positioned between the i7-13700 and i9-13900, the i7-13790F is a unique piece of silicon. It has the same 8P+8E core-configuration as the i7-13700 and i7-13700K, and even the same 5.20 GHz maximum P-core turbo frequency as the i7-13700, but comes with a little extra shared L3 cache of 33 MB.

Each of the 8 "Raptor Cove" P-cores on the i7-13790F has 2 MB of dedicated L2 cache, and each of the two available E-core clusters has 4 MB of L2 cache that's shared among the four "Gracemont" E-cores in the cluster. The L3 cache that's shared among the 8 P-cores and 2 E-core clusters, has been bumped up to 33 MB from 30 MB on the other 13th Gen Core i7 desktop SKUs. This is still short of the 36 MB physically present on the "Raptor Lake-S" silicon. There are a couple of gotchas, though. Firstly, this is still a "locked" (non-K) SKU having minimal overclocking capabilities, with a 65 W base power and possibly the same 219 W maximum turbo power as the i7-13700; and secondly, as an "F" SKU, it lacks integrated graphics. The i5-13490F and i7-13790F appear to be targeting the SI and retail channels, and come in an exclusive black paperboard box. The i7-13790F is priced at RMB ¥2,999 including taxes, or about $440.

Lenovo Yoga Book 9i is an Incredibly Versatile Dual-Screen Convertible PC: A Walkthrough

It's a laptop, but it can be anything—the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i has the conventional shape of a clamshell notebook, except that there's a second touchscreen where you'd expect the keyboard an trackpad to be. You get a folio-type silicone keyboard with physical keys that provide tactile feedback, or you can pull up an on-screen keyboard on either screen and type with haptic feedback. As a Yoga product, the hinge turns 360°, and at 180° it can become a dual-screen setup. The possibilities are endless.

Under the hood is an Intel Core i7 U-series "Raptor Lake-U" 15 W 2P+8E SoC with 16 GB LPDDR5X memory; NVMe Gen 4 SSD, integrated Iris Xe graphics, and an 80 WHr battery. Each of the two 13.3-inch touchscreens has a 16:10 aspect-ratio and 1920 x 1200 resolution. Comms include Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2 (a 5G modem would be incredible).

Intel Hikes 12th Gen Core Processor Pricing by 10 Percent

With everyone busy enjoying the announcements of new shiny toys at CES, Intel has taken the opportunity to jack up the prices on its older 12th Gen Core processors by around 10 percent. This wasn't entirely unexpected though, as Intel announced back in June of last year that it was going to increase the MSRP of its 12th Gen Core processors. The price increase affects different SKUs wildly differently, as the Core i9-12900K for example, is seeing a US$59 price increase and its new MSRP is now US$648, which is more than the Core i9-13900K which has an MSRP of US$589. On the other hand, the Core i3-12100 only gets a $12 price increase, which puts its new MSRP at US$134, which places it in the same price bracket as the Core i3-13100.

This is a very unusual move by Intel and it affects all of its 12th Gen Core desktop processors and possibly some other SKUs as well. Considering the 13th Gen Core parts are either priced cheaper or fall in the same price bracket, it's hard to see how Intel is going to see any sales of its older 12th Gen Core processors, especially as the two share the same socket. It's highly unlikely that this move will affect its shareholders in a positive way either, as Intel is likely to see lower sales with this price increase of its previous generation of processors, which in turn will result in even lower revenue. That said, it's unclear if this will affect retail pricing or not, as it's possible that many stores won't replenish their stock of 12th Gen Core CPUs once their current stock sells out.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16 GB Laptop SKU Spotted in Next-Gen HP Omen 17 Laptop

According to the well-known hardware leaker @momomo_us, HP is preparing the launch of its next-generation Omen 17 gaming laptops. And with a new generation of chips coming to consumers, HP accidentally made some information about laptop SKUs public. Four models are listed, and they represent a combination of Intel's 13th-generation Raptor Lake mobile processors with NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace RTX 40 series graphics cards for the mobile/laptop sector. The four SKUs are: CM2007NQ/CM2005NQ with Core i7-13700HX & RTX 4060 8 GB; CM2001NQ with Core i7-13700HX & RTX 4070 8 GB; CK2007NQ/CK2004NQ with Core i7-13700HX & RTX 4080 12 GB; CK2001NQ with Core i7-13700HX & RTX 4090 16 GB.

The most exciting find here is the appearance of the xx90 series in the mobile/laptop form factor, which has not been the case before. The GeForce RTX 4090 laptop edition is supposedly equipped with 16 GB of VRAM, and the GPU SKU should be a cut-down version of AD102 GPU adjusted for power and clock constraints so it can run within a reasonable TDP. With NVIDIA seemingly giving its clients an RTX 4090 SKU option, we have to wait and see what the CUDA core counts are and how clocks scale in a more restricted laptop environment.

Intel Core i9-13900KS Confirmed with 150W Base Power and 6 GHz Boost Speed

Intel is expanding its 13th Gen Core "Raptor Lake" desktop processor family with a number of new SKUs, led by the new flagship Core i9-13900KS. A leaked company slide confirmed the upper-end SKUs' specs. Led from the top, the new i9-13900KS packs the same 8P+16E (8 performance cores + 16 efficiency cores) configuration as the i9-13900K. It has a slightly higher 3.20 GHz base frequency compared to the 3.00 GHz of the i9-13900K, but boosts all the way up to 6.00 GHz, compared to 5.80 GHz of the i9-13900K. To ensure improved boost frequency residency, Intel bumped up the processor base power value from 125 W to 150 W, while leaving the maximum turbo power value untouched at 253 W.

We also see the specs of the non-K Core i9-13900 and Core i7-13700, which offer the same 8P+16E and 8P+8E core-configs as the i9-13900K and i9-13700K, respectively, but without unlocked multipliers. The i9-13900 ticks at 2.00 GHz with 5.60 GHz maximum turbo frequency, whereas the i7-13700 does 2.10 GHz base, with up to 5.20 GHz boost, compared to 3.40 GHz base and 5.40 GHz boost of the i7-13700K. As "locked" chips both have lower processor base power values of just 65 W, and maximum turbo power values of 219 W. Both these chips could include a cooling solution in the box, which is very likely the Laminar RH1 stock cooler that company includes with the i9-12900 and i9-12700. Intel is expected to announce these chips alongside a large number of 13th Gen Core i5 SKUs on January 3.

Intel's 13th Gen Raptor Lake Lineup Leaks

Courtesy of Wccftech, we now have a complete picture of what Intel is planning to announce on the 27th of this month. The information is extremely detailed and covers no less than 14 different processor SKUs, ranging from the Core i9-13900K/KF to the Core i5-13400/F. All of the CPUs except the Core i5-13400/F and the upcoming Core i3 models will support memory speeds of up to DDR5 5600, whereas the lower end parts will be limited to DDR5 4800. All 13th Gen Intel CPUs should also support DDR4 3200 memory. Just as with the 12th Gen CPUs, the 13th Gen KF and F will not support ECC memory and of course, no IGP.

There's nothing that really stands out when looking at the specs and most things are expected based on earlier rumours. The Core i9-13900K/KF will indeed boost up to 5.8 GHz on up to two cores and all P-cores will boost up to 5.4 GHz, with the E-cores boosting up to 4.3 GHz. The Core i7-13700K/KF will have a much bigger gap here, compared to the the Core i7-12700K/KF versus the Core i9-12900K/KF where there was a 200 MHz boost frequency gap, which has now been extended to 400 MHz, as the Core i7-13700K/KF only boosts up to 5.4 GHz on two cores. Interestingly, the base clock frequency for the P-cores seems to have dropped 200 MHz on theK/KF parts, compared to 12th Gen equivalents in the product stack. For the remaining details, have a look at the data provided below.
