Synology Releases the DiskStation DS2413+, Optimized for Photographers

Synology America Corp. is pleased to announce the release of its newest twelve-bay DiskStation, the DS2413+. Along with the DX1211 expansion module, it can scale up to 24 drives for up to 96TB storage in your choice of Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) or classic RAID, making it an ideal answer to the growing data storage needs of today's photographers. The DS2413+ is Synology's first 12-bay system to incorporate USB 3.0 for improved transfer speeds to and from external disks.

Synology Launches the First DiskStation NAS with Integrated Wireless, the DS213air

Synology America Corp. today announced the release of their first DiskStation with built-in wireless support, the DS213air. The new two-bay addition to the DiskStation family comes on the heels of Synology's new Web Assistant, designed to simplify the installation process.

Synology and Symform Team Up to Protect Data in the Cloud

Synology today announced a new partnership with Symform, a revolutionary cloud storage and backup service, to provide users with an alternative way to backup data. By installing the SymformBeta package from Synology Package Center, users can receive 10 gigabytes of free data backup, and up to 200 gigabytes free if they join and contribute excess local drive space to the Symform Cloud Storage Network, a globally distributed, peer-to-peer cloud storage network.

Synology Also Launches DX513 eSATA NAS Expansion Unit

Synology Inc. today announced the release of a new 5-bay expansion unit, the DX513, a quick and effortless storage expansion solution for selected DiskStations with hot-swappable drive design aimed at businesses and power users.

As storage drives on Synology DiskStations reach their capacity limits, the DX513 provides an immediate solution to remedy this by scaling up DiskStation storage allowance through an additional five bays. RAID volume expansion can be directly performed by the paired DiskStation without reformatting existing hard drives; this allows continuous service uptime for the paired DiskStation throughout the storage expansion process. Furthermore, DX513 can function as a great alternative local backup solution if created as an independent volume for the paired DiskStation.

Synology Releases Peripherals Update with WD Red Hard Drives

Synology Inc. today announced the compatibility of its DiskStation & RackStation lineup with WD Red NAS 3.5" hard drives that include WD30EFRX (3 TB), WD20EFRX (2 TB), and WD10EFRX (1 TB). The above models have successfully passed stress and compatibility test from Synology, and proven to be compatible with select Synology DiskStation & RackStation from the x12, x11, x10, x09, and x08 series.

Buffalo Intros DiskStation USB 3.0 + Thunderbolt Hard Drive

Buffalo Japan launched the DiskStation HD-PATU3, a new external hard drive that features two high-bandwidth interface options, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt, letting you use it without interface bottlenecks on both PCs and Macs. The HD-PATU3 comes in two capacity options, 500 GB and 1 TB. The drive is entirely bus-powered, and does not require an AC adapter. The drive comes pre-formatted to the Mac-friendly HFS+ file-system, but can be re-formatted to Windows-friendly file-systems such as NTFS or ex-FAT. Buffalo did not give out pricing information.

Synology Announces Cloud Station Availability for Mac

Synology Inc. today released the Mac client of Cloud Station Beta, providing an easy, yet secure data synchronization solution for Mac users.

Synology Releases Plex Media Server Package for its DiskStation and RackStation

Synology Inc. today introduced the Plex Media Server package, which provides selected DiskStation and RackStation users with a complete media solution, hundreds of channels of online content, and the capability to stream the content to user's iOS and Android devices, Windows and Mac computers, and Roku Media Streamers. The Plex media server is developed by Plex.

Plex Media Server package seamlessly streams media content stored in DiskStation and RackStation to various devices, offering users with the convenience of browsing and watching their video collections anytime, anywhere. Synology Fixes Vulnerability in a Small Batch of DiskStations

Synology has confirmed a known system issue caused by flawed flash memory chips. This issue can occur when users reboot the DiskStation; the unit will not restart and the blue LED light will blink continuously. This issue does not affect data stored on the DiskStation and will not result in data loss.

The affected products include DS1512+ and DS1812+ worldwide, and DS212j for Asia shipments only. The best estimated quantity is 480, 120 and 700 units respectively and most of them have been returned or are on the way to Synology.

Synology Releases DiskStation DS412+ with Improved Case Design

Synology America Corp. today announced the latest release in its high-performance 4-bay DiskStation family: the DS412+. The DS412+ is well-suited for business users, offering a good mix of price, performance, and capacity.

The new 4-bay server features a brand new case design. The new model allows hot-swap capability. It is Synology's first 4-bay server to add support for USB 3.0. Dual NICs allow for link aggregation or failover, helping users get the most performance and reliability. The DS412+ uses passive cooling on the CPU and adaptive behavior on the dual exhaust fans to increase uptime and remove points of failure.
