ZOTAC may have inadvertently leaked the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. The latest version of its FireStorm utility mentions support for the RTX 3090 Ti. This would indicate that NVIDIA has been working on a new top-of-the-line graphics card that replaces the RTX 3090 as its most premium consumer graphics offering. Until now, it was expected that NVIDIA would hold onto the RTX 3090 as its top client product, with the gap between it and the RTX 3080 being filled up by the RTX 3080 Ti, to help it better compete with the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. AMD's introduction of the new RX 6900 XT (XTXH silicon), and more surprisingly, the introduction yielding a 10% clock-speed increase, has changed the competitive outlook of the very top of NVIDIA's product-stack.

There are no specifications out there, but in all likelihood, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti maxes out the 8 nm "GA102" silicon. The RTX 3090 enables all but one of the 42 TPCs physically present on the silicon, and it's likely that this disabled TPC, amounting to an additional 256 CUDA cores, could be unlocked. This would put its CUDA core count at 10,752, compared to 10.496 on the RTX 3090. The only other area NVIDIA could squeeze out performance is GPU clock speeds—an approach similar to AMD's to come up with the RX 6900 XT (XTXH). The highest bins of GA102 could go into building the RTX 3090 Ti. The RTX 3090 already maxes out the 384-bit GDDR6X memory interface, uses the fastest 19.5 Gbps memory chips available, and offers a massive 24 GB of video memory, so it remains to be seen what other specs NVIDIA could tinker with to create the RTX 3090 Ti.

Apple has established itself as a master of silicon integrated circuit design and has proven over the years that its processors deliver the best results, generation after generation. If we take a look at the performance numbers of the latest A14 Bionic, you can conclude that its performance is now rivaling some of the x86_64 chips. So you would wonder, what is inside this SoC that makes it so fast? That is exactly what ICmasters, a semiconductor reverse engineering and IP services company, has questioned and decided to find out. For starters, we know that Apple manufactures the new SoCs on TSMC's N5 5 nm node. The Taiwanese company promises to pack 171.3 million transistors per square millimeter, so how does it compare to an actual product?

ICmasters have used electron microscopy to see what the chip is made out of and to measure the transistor density. According to this source, Apple has a chip with a die size of 88 mm², which packs 11.8 billion N5 transistors. The density metric, however, doesn't correspond to that of TSMC. Instead of 171.3 million transistors per mm², the ICmasters measured 134.09 million transistors per mm². This is quite a difference, however, it is worth noting that each design will have it different due to different logic and cache layout.

NVIDIA's decision to prohibit AIB partners from factory overclocking their GTX 1070 Ti graphics is a decision that may not sit well with hardware enthusiasts, but it's one that makes the most sense from a business perspective. As it is, it's expected that overclocked versions of the GTX 1070 Ti graphics cards, which have come to offer a more compelling NVIDIA option against AMD's Vega 56 graphics card, will offer performance that is by all accounts comparable to that offered by its more expensive (and older) GTX 1080 graphics cards. So NVIDIA is just ensuring that its introduction of the GTX 1070 Ti with its $459 MSRP doesn't cannibalize sales of their higher tier graphics card through higher out-of-the-box performance via factory overclocking.

ZOTAC unveiled the GeForce GTX 1080 Arctic Storm graphics card (model: ZT-P10800F-30P). Built for liquid-cooled builds, the card comes with a factory-fitted, full-coverage water-block, paired with a strong VRM setup for the PCB, which shares its design with the GTX 1080 AMP Extreme. This block enables a factory-overclock of 1632 MHz core, 1771 MHz GPU Boost, and an untouched 10 GHz memory, compared to NVIDIA-reference clocks of 1607 MHz core, 1733 MHz GPU Boost.

The block's clear-acrylic top is studded with RGB LEDs, letting you use the ZOTAC FireStorm app to set color and lighting schemes. The block comes with G 1/4 fittings, with bundled 10 mm barbs supporting inner-diameter tubing. Finishing the package is a back-plate that runs the entire length of the PCB, and some more. The company didn't announce pricing, although one can expect this card to be priced above the GTX 1080 AMP Extreme.
