Roccat Studios released a new package of its Kulo USB surround gaming headset that packs donut-shaped earpads. Made of soft velvet and cushioning, these replacement earpads make extended gaming sessions with the Kulo more comfortable. Being an on-ear headset instead of around ear, Kulo applies pressure on the pinna, which could be unfomfortable after a few straight hours of gaming. These earpads help spread the pressure more evenly, even if they don't necessarily turn the headset into around ear.

Genius Introduces the Cavimanus Virtual 7.1 Channel Gaming Headset

Genius has now launched its newest gaming peripheral, a headset called Cavimanus (codename HS-G700V) which features (virtual) 7.1 channel surround sound, a vibration function (that should be fun), 40 mm drivers, a large, padded headband, a foldable unidirectional microphone, a built-in volume knob, blue LEDs, and USB connectivity (via a 2.5 meter cable).

The Cavimanus also has a frequency response of 20 Hz ~ 20 KHz, a sensitivity of 95 dB, an impedance of 32 Ohms, and bears a recommended price tag of $79.90.

Razer Tiamat 7.1 Headset Launch Delayed, Again

Market release of Razer's Tiamat 7.1 channel gaming headset has been delayed yet again. Originally slated for Q4 2011, Tiamat has been a troubled product launch for the otherwise consistent Razer. In December, Razer apologetically announced that they were facing development setbacks and had to delay market launch till end of January, 2012. Well, we're now at the fag-end of the month, with no Tiamat launch, yet. Instead what we got is another announcement by Razer, saying that the product launch is further delayed to some time in February, 2012.

Mad Catz's Cyborg F.R.E.Q. 5 Gaming Headset Goes Up for Pre-Order

Announced at the beginning of this month, the Cyborg-branded F.R.E.Q. 5 Gaming Headset made by Mad Catz has now become available for pre-order. Priced at $149.99, the stereo headset features a durable metal headband, large earcups, 50 mm drivers with Neodymium Magnets, a detachable noise-canceling microphone, on-ear controls, and a 2-meter long USB braided cable (a 1m cord with a 3.5 mm jack is also provided).

Plantronics Unveils GameCom 780 7.1 Headset

Plantronics unveiled its latest headset for professional gamers, the GameCom 780. The headset is probably scheduled to be launched at CES, but a presentation related to it was leaked to the web. The GameCom 780 is a large-sized over-the-ear headset with a rounded quadrilateral shape instead of round, the optimally fit the contours of the ears. While it's 2-channel, it features virtual 7.1-channel surround.

It connects to the PC over USB, and packs a native logic that processes Dolby Headphone and Dolby Pro Logic IIx technologies. Each of the two cans features a 40 mm driver. The cans are suspended on hinges and can swivel to fold the headset up for transportation. The head band is thickly cushioned. The noise-cancelling microphone is suspended by a hinged-armature. The headset has a braided 2 m long USB cable.

ASUS Announces the MS-100 USB Speakers and HS-W1 Wireless USB Headset

Razer's Tiamat Gaming Headset Delayed, to Ship in Late January

Bad news for gamers hoping to find a Tiamat 7.1 or Tiamat 2.2 headset under the Christmas tree (or simply on their desk), Razer has delayed the arrival of both products to polish them up some more. Both Tiamat headsets were supposed to be available during this last quarter of 2011 but now they are expected to ship at the end of January.

"Rest assured this product is coming out soon, but as we get ready to ship, we are also putting final touches to perfect this headset. We want to be sure that what you get is going to blow your ears away, no holds barred, and unfortunately like all Razer products, it's ready when it's ready," says a message from Team Razer.

Razer apologized for this delay and is trying to make up for it by offering a free Razer T-shirt and Razer flask (worth $40) to all customers who add their names to the Notify Me list at the Tiamat minisite. As a reminder, the Tiamat 7.1, with its 10 built-in drivers, costs $179.99 / EU €179.99 while the Tiamat 2.2, which has 'just' four drivers, is priced at $99.99 / EU €99.99.

Westone Intros Talk Series TS-1 IEM Headset

Audiophile brand Westone today released its Talk Series One "communication IEM", that's a pair of in-ear monitors (IEMs) with a microphone strapped along the cable. It makes for an ideal audiophile-grade companion for smartphones, as they are increasingly replacing portable music players among other everyday gadgets. Talk Series One could also make for a great PC/notebook headset.

The IEMs have a sensitivity rating of 114 dB @ 1mW, 20Hz - 16kHz frequency response, and 25 ohms @ 1kHz impedance. They use Westone's balanced armature, full-range driver design. The microphone is strapped along the main line, and features Westone's Microphone In Control System (MICS). It also features basic call/end buttons to take or drop calls. Sony Announces PlayStation Vita, Revolutionary Portable Entertainment Device
