ASRock Unveils a Pair of Pentium J2900 Motherboards

ASRock unveiled a pair of new motherboards based on Intel's new Pentium J2900 quad-core "Bay Trail" SoC. These include the Q2900-ITX (mini-ITX) and the Q2900M (micro-ATX). Both feature the 10W J2900 chips cooled by a fan-less chunky aluminium heatsink. The J2900 features four cores, nominal clock speeds of 2.40 GHz, with 2.66 GHz Turbo Boost, 2 MB of cache, 688-896 MHz Intel HD Graphics, and a dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.

The Q2900-ITX offers two DDR3 SO-DIMM slots, a single PCI-Express 2.0 x1, a miniPCIe 2.0, two-each of SATA 6 Gb/s and SATA 3 Gb/s ports, four USB 3.0 ports, display outputs that include DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI; 8-channel HD audio, and gigabit Ethernet. The Q2900M, on the other hand, features much of the same features, except full-size DIMM slots, an additional PCI-Express 2.0 x16 and PCIe 2.0 x1 slots; and 6-channel HD audio instead of 8-channel.

MSI Teams With CYBERPOWERPC to Launch Venom-X Custom Configuration Service

CyberPower Inc., www.cyberpowerpc.com a global manufacturer of custom gaming PCs, gaming laptops, and performance workstations, today announced it has teamed with Micro-Star International Co. (MSI) to launch Venom-X, a program that will allow customers to purchase select MSI-branded products direct from CyberPower Inc. and customize their rig with a full menu of CPU, GPU, RAM and other hardware and service upgrades such as factory-warranted overclocking.

CYBERPOWERPC is offering a service that takes the retail/etail experience to its next level - the ability to order systems and hardware from a number of first tier manufacturers and configure that system to your own specifications. MSI becomes the first of several partners to participate in the Venom-X customization program. MSI systems with Venom-X will allow customers to customize and fine tune their configuration of MSI GAMING products with more memory, larger capacity SSDs, higher end GPUs and more. To launch the service CYBERPOWERPC will give the Venom-X treatment to the MSI GAMING AIO all-in-one, the MSI Nightblade Z97 mini-ITX system, and Venom-X MS Series Desktops.

Gigabyte Essence Desktop Case Pictured

Here are some of the first pictures of Gigabyte's Essence mini-ITX case. Designed for entry-level mini-ITX desktops that can be fan-less, the Essence measures 300 mm x 234 mm x 74 mm; and is made of SECC steel and plastic. Its design involves a main cubicle inclined onto a stand, which encloses its power supply. A 120W external power brick supplies 12V, which it then gives out as various ATX standard power connectors. The case can hold a full-height mini-ITX motherboard, and a 2.5-inch drive. The case is beginning to sell in Japan, priced at the equivalent of $130. The source doesn't expect it to be priced above $100 in western markets.

Gigabyte Rolls Out H81N-D2H Mini-ITX Motherboard

Gigabyte rolled out its latest entry-level socket LGA1150 motherboard in the mini-ITX form-factor, the H81N-D2H. Based on the Intel H81 Express chipset, the board takes in Core "Haswell" and "Devil's Canyon" processors (minus the overclocking support). The board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 4-pin CPU power connectors, with a 3-phase VRM conditioning power for the CPU. The CPU socket is wired to two DDR3 DIMM slots, and a legacy PCI slot. Storage connectivity includes two each of SATA 6 Gb/s and SATA 3 Gb/s ports. Display outputs include one each of dual-link DVI, D-Sub, and HDMI. PS/2 on the rear panel, LPT and COM (by headers), make up legacy connectivity. Two USB 3.0 ports, and four USB 2.0 ports make up modern connectivity. 6-channel HD audio, and gigabit Ethernet make for the rest of it. The board is driven by UEFI BIOS.

Lian Li Announces New Brushed Aluminum Mini-ITX Chasis – PC-Q01

Lian-Li today announces a new brushed aluminum Mini-ITX chassis - PC-Q01. This compact case is designed for small office/home PC environments and features a tool-lessly removable L-shaped cover that makes installations effortless in space-confined ITX systems. With its versatile storage capabilities, the 13.3L PC-Q01 provides ample space for hardware compatibility. Mini-ITX/Mini-DTX motherboards are supported, as well as double-slotted graphics cards and ATX power supplies up to 210 in length. To provide maximum storage capabilities without compromising space, on both the side panel and case floor one 3.5" and one 2.5" or two 2.5" drives can be mounted, allowing for a total of 4 drives.

Corsair Shows off Colorful Graphite 380T Mini-ITX Cases

Corsair showed off its colorful Graphite 380T line of portable mini-ITX cases. Featuring a picnic basket-like design, with a handle right on top, the 380T has a 2-compartment design. The top one is dedicated to the motherboard tray, with enormous room for tall tower-type CPU heatsinks, and long graphics cards. It wouldn't surprise us if a Radeon R9 295X fit in just fine. The bottom compartment holds its standard PSU bay, three 3.5-inch drive bays (which each convert to 2.5-inch), and two additional 2.5-inch bays. Ventilation consists of a prominent 140 mm front intake, a 120 mm rear exhaust, and a top exhaust.

Apacer Mashes a DDR3 DIMM with an M.2 SSD

In what could be a boon for mini-ITX PC builders, Apacer created a new line of DDR3 memory modules that come with M.2 slots. Called Apacer Combo-SDIMM, the contraption puts a DDR3 DIMM and M.2 slot onto the same PCB. The DRAM portion is restricted to half the module's height, while the other half takes up the M.2 slot. Sadly, the M.2 slot is wired to through its SATA link layer, and not PCIe, so your SSDs are capped at 6 Gb/s speeds. Points for the engineering, though.

Cougar QBX Mini-ITX Tower Chassis Pictured

Here are the first pictures of Cougar's QBX mini-iTX tower-type chassis. Measuring 158 mm x 373.5 mm x 282 mm (WxDxH), the case can seat a standard mini-ITX motherboard, with 160 mm tall CPU coolers, and graphics cards as long as 35 cm. In the picture below, Cougar installed a Radeon HD 5970, which is among the longest DirectX 11 graphics cards ever made. The case can also seat a standard ATX power supply towards its front portion. Its cooling features include two 120 mm exhausts on the top, with provision for 240 mm x 120 mm radiators; an 80 mm rear exhaust, and a 120 mm intake on the side panel. Storage area includes one 5.25-inch drive bay, one 3.5-inch internal bay, and three 2.5-inch ones. Front panel connectivity includes USB 3.0 and HDA jacks.

SilverStone Unveils White Milo ML07 Chassis

SilverStone rolled out a sexy matte-white variant of its Milo ML07 compact chassis, pictured below, next to its standard sibling. The case features mostly matte-white surfaces, with a black highlight running along. Under its skin, the ML07 is essentially a Raven RVZ01, a mini-ITX chassis with room for an SFX power supply, a modern 33 cm long graphics card using PCIe risers (a GTX TITAN Black should fit just fine), leaving you still with room for a 240 mm x 120 mm radiator, a slot-in slimline optical drive, a 3.5-inch internal bay, and three 2.5-inch internal bays. Ventilation includes a 120 mm vent over the motherboard tray, and two 120 mm vents at the bottom.

NCASE M1 Crowdfunded Mini-ITX Case Prepares for New Production Run

NCASE today announced it has opened preorders for a second production run of the community-developed small form-factor case, the NCASE M1. Preorders are open for a limited time at www.ncases.com, with production slated for the June-July time frame. Following a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2013, the limited run first edition of the M1 has been well-received by both users and reviewers alike. At just 12.6 liters in volume, it's one of the smallest available mini-ITX cases capable of housing high-end hardware. Thanks to its innovative design, the M1 achieves an unprecedented level of performance capability for its size, able to accommodate GPUs up to 12.5" and 240mm liquid cooling radiators. The NCASE team is a two-man collaboration that began in late 2012 as a project to design and produce a compact, high-quality, performance-oriented small-form factor PC case with input from the community.

Gigabyte Unveils GA-9SISL Micro-Server Board

Gigabyte launched the GA-9SISL, a unique micro-server board in the mini-ITX form-factor. At its center is an Intel Atom C2750 "Avoton" processor. This chip embeds an eight-core "Silvermont" x86-64 CPU clocked at 2.40 GHz, with 2.60 GHz Turbo Boost, a dual-channel memory controller that supports up to 64 GB of memory, 4 MB of L2 cache, and a 6-port SATA AHCI/RAID controller with two 6 Gb/s and four 3 Gb/s ports. Its TDP is rated at just 20W, and so a tiny fan-heatsink is deployed to handle it.

The GA-9SISL from Gigabyte draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS connectors. The Atom C2750 SoC is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, supporting up to 32 GB of DDR3-1600 memory. Its lone expansion slot is a PCI-Express 2.0 x16. Storage connectivity includes four SATA 3 Gb/s and two SATA 6 Gb/s ports. An ASPEED AST2400 chip provides remote management capabilities, and its integrated video, over a D-Sub connector. An Intel N354 network controller offers four 1000 Mbit Ethernet connectors, while a 5th one is wired to the management chip. Gigabyte didn't announce pricing, but given that the SoC itself is priced at US $170 a piece in 1000-unit quantities, home NAS builders may not get excited.

Akasa Announces Euler S Mini-ITX Fanless Case

Much like the Newton X it launched earlier this week, Akasa updated its flagship fanless mini-ITX case, with the new Euler S. The case offers room for a thin mini-ITX motherboard, its body doubles up as a heatsink, and can handle thermal loads from the CPU as high as 35W TDP. The case features a brushed-aluminium front-panel, with diamond-cut edges, and a chunkier aluminium body that offers higher heat dissipation surface area. The Euler S offers a couple of USB 3.0 ports on the front bezel, something that was left wanting on the original. The company didn't reveal pricing or availability details.

Axiomtek Announces AMD G-Series Embedded SoC GX-210JA Pico-ITX SBC

Axiomtek, one of the world's leading designers and manufacturers of innovative, high performance and reliable PC-based industrial computer products, announces the new arrival of the PICO121, its extremely compact fanless Pico-ITX SBC with ultra-low power AMD G-Series Embedded SoC GX-210JA dual core 1.0GHz onboard. The PICO121 is built to withstand wide temperature conditions, ranging from -20°C to +70°C (-4°F to +158°F). ASRock Intros Celeron J1900-based Q1900DC-ITX Motherboard

ASRock rolled out the Q1900DC-ITX, a low-power computing motherboard based on Intel Celeron J1900 "Bay Trail" SoC. The chip embeds a quad-core x86-64 CPU clocked at 2.00 GHz, with Turbo Boost speeds of up to 2.42 GHz. The board is designed to draw power from an external power brick, over 2-pin DC-in. It uses a chunky fan-less heatsink to cool the SoC, which is wired to two DDR3L SO-DIMM slots. Expansion includes one PCI-Express 2.0 x1, and an mPCIe. Storage connectivity doesn't let down, and includes two each of SATA 6 Gb/s and SATA 3 Gb/s. The board offers legacy connectivity such as LPT and COM over headers. Display outputs include DVI, HDMI, and D-Sub. 8-channel HD audio, gigabit Ethernet, two each of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0/1.1, and PS/2 mouse/keyboard connectors make for the rest of it.

SilverStone Milo ML07 Now Available

SilverStone launched the Milo ML07 slim mini-ITX chassis, with room for conventional (full-height, double-slot) graphics cards. Measuring 382 mm x 350 mm x 105 mm (WxDxH), it weighs about 3.71 kg. The ML07 chassis may look like something to build a media PC around, but it can actually hold gaming-grade hardware. The case features two add-on slots bays along the plane of the motherboard tray, featuring a PCI-Express x16 riser. There's enough room for full-height, double-slot graphics cards as long as 330 mm. That's enough to squeeze in a GeForce GTX TITAN Black (which is 266 mm long), all that's left would be finding a PSU in the SFX form-factor, which can safely power it. The motherboard tray seats conventional mini-ITX boards. Its storage area includes room for a slot-loading slimline optical drive, a 3.5-inch internal bay, and three 2.5-inch internal bays. Ventilation includes a 120 mm vent over the motherboard tray, and two 120 mm vents at the bottom, which should let you squeeze in a 240 mm x 120 mm radiator. Front connectivity includes two USB 3.0 ports (standard header), and HDA front-panel jacks.

BIOSTAR Announces J1900NH2 Mini-ITX Motherboard

BIOSTAR has announced the J1900NH2 motherboard with the on-board Intel Dual-Core Celeron J1900 processor in a mini ITX form factor for flexible use. The J1900NH2 boards come with the Intel Celeron J1900 Dual-Core processor already installed and it supports two DDR3L 1333/1066 MHz memory slots for a maximum of 16 GB of memory. It features an integrated graphics chip with enough performance for most home and office applications.

The J1900NH2 board is ready for building a universal multimedia system due to its HDMI and analog VGA-out, and high definition audio with the Realtek ALC662 5.1 Channel HD Audio chip. LAN networking is covered by the Realtek RTL8111G - 10/100/1000 controller and being a BIOSTAR board it has the Smart Speed LAN feature. For storage there are 2 SATA2 connectors and USB is well rounded with 1 USB 3.0 port and 4 USB 2.0 ports.

ASUS Z97 Deluxe Pictured, Too

Here's the first picture of a market-ready version of ASUS' Z97 Deluxe motherboard, from the company's mainline computer brand. ASUS seems to have received screaming feedback from some quarters that bright gold isn't the best choice heatsink color, and if Z97 Deluxe is anything to go by, we might see a softer champagne tone of gold, with a more minimalist heatsink design. The Z97 Deluxe is packed to the brim with features, beginning with a 16-phase CPU VRM. The LGA1150 socket is wired to four DDR3 DIMM slots, and three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots. Storage connectivity appears to include six SATA 6 Gb/s, one SATA-Express, one M.2, and possibly one or more eSATA. Other connectivity includes 8-channel HD audio with ground-layer isolation, dual gigabit-Ethernet interfaces, WLAN, and a large number of USB 3.0 ports. We also scored a teaser pic of the flagship mini-ITX motherboard from ASUS based on the Z97 chipset, likely named the Z97-I Deluxe. It should give you a closer look of the chipset heatsink design.

MSI Announces ProBox23 Desktop Barebone

MSI announced the ProBox line of compact desktop barebones, the first of which is the ProBox23. Its chassis, which measures 202 mm x 204 mm x 54.8 mm (WxDxH), includes a slim mini-ITX motherboard based on the Intel H81 Express chipset, supporting LGA1150 processors (TDP of up to 65W), room for up to two DDR3 SO-DIMM slots, two 2.5-inch SATA drives, and an mSATA slot. A half-height mPCIe x1 slot is also featured, so you can drop in your own wireless communications card. The unit draws power from an external power brick. Connectivity includes stereo HD audio, gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports, six USB 2.0 ports (two on the rear panel, four on the front), eSATA 3 Gb/s, and HDMI display output.

Cryorig Teases the C1 ITX CPU Cooler

After debuting in the CPU cooler scene with a bang, Cryorig is reading its first low-profile product for the ITX and SFF desktop markets, the C1 ITX. This top-flow cooler uses an aluminium fin-stack design, in which heat drawn from the base is conveyed to the stack using four nickel-plated copper heat pipes. The stack is larger than it looks, although we don't have the exact dimensions at hand, and is ventilated by a 140 mm XT140 PWM spinner. The cooler will support most modern CPU socket types, from both Intel and AMD. Cryorig is currently testing the C1 ITX, and hopes to ship it out by May.
