The Surge in Gaming PC and Monitors Expected to Remain Strong Through 2025, According to IDC

According to the latest forecast from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Gaming Tracker, worldwide shipments of gaming PCs and monitors continue to grow at rates faster than their parent markets. For gaming PCs, which includes both desktop and notebook PCs, unit shipments are expected to grow from 41.3 million in 2020 and to 52.3 million in 2025. Similarly, the gaming monitor market is expected to jump from 14.2 million units shipped to 26.4 million during the same time frame. This equates to the two product categories having five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) of 4.8% and 13.2% respectively.

The solid growth projection is based on strong recent trends. Despite high logistics costs as well as shortages of components affecting both PCs and displays, shipments in 2021 have remained brisk. The second quarter of 2021 (2Q21) ended with combined shipments of 15.6 million gaming monitors and PCs, an increase of 19.3% compared to the same quarter in 2020.

MSI Sells its 3 Millionth Gaming Monitor in 3 Years, Launches Limited Edition MSI Optix Monitor

MSI, the world's leading manufacturer for gaming hardware, has achieved the milestone of selling over 3 million monitors. The company began its foray into delivering top-notch visual experiences to gamers years ago with reliable PC hardware. However, it only stepped into the world of display technology with its first Gaming Monitor launch in 2016. Since then, MSI has re-affirmed its commitment to quality and delivered value to gamers time and again. And over the years, it has learned more about what gamers love and have focused on designing the best display products on the market. Today, it knows that this commitment hasn't gone unnoticed.

As a relatively fresh entrant to display technology, this is an honor for the company that has spent considerable time and effort to really understand what gamers want out of a Gaming Monitor.

Bizarre/Interesting Tech on Crowdfunding Platforms: DUEX Portable Dual-screen Laptop Monitors

Continuing this series that began with the MSI gaming foot pedals, I came across Duex on Kickstarter today. Remember Razer's Project Valerie? It was the triple screen laptop concept shown off at CES 2017, but nothing came out of it from the company to this date. Duex, or rather Mobile Pixels Inc., first made the second-screen DUO that shipped in 2019, and then the triple screen TRIO that shipped last year and looks very bizarre and interesting to fit this series perfectly in my opinion. The company decided that their second-screen experience can be improved further, and have taken to crowdfunding again with two new models called the DUEX Lite and DUEX Plus,

The DUEX Lite is a 12.5" screen and the DUEX Plus a 13.3" model that also offers a few other features additional USB ports, an aluminium alloy frame, auto aspect ratio rotation, as well as increased compatibility with other mobile devices beyond laptops on an x86 platform. The screens are held in place on a magnetic base which allows them to be pushed back into the back of the laptop to make for a thick sandwich, as well as extended in either direction and pivoted to allow for a compact dual-screen experience on the go. The DUEX Lite has an advertised MSRP of ~$315 (their own numbers are off by $5 depending on the early bird tiers) and the DUEX Plus at ~$345, and currently can be had for much lower on Kickstarter as expected. Do keep in mind that the TRIO backers seem to have mostly received the package to their satisfaction, although some are still waiting and others have had issues. So if this interests you, please do some more reading on all this before backing the project, which ends in a little under a month from now.

Displays are all around us, from home use to office environments and public spaces, and many of them meet different needs and serve different applications. Geared towards specific requirements are touch displays. Philips' monitors provide for a comfortable, fast and responsive touch experience, ready to boost anyone's productivity. The new B1TC Series includes two models: the 23.8" (60.5 cm) 242B1TC and the 21.5" (54.6 cm) 222B1TC. They rely on Advanced In-Cell Touch (AIT) technology and on projected capacitive touch, which ensure better transmittance and outstanding response rates, for a faster touch experience on up to 10 points simultaneously. The in-cell touch technology allows a slim, 3-side frameless design, while the IPS technology ensures wide viewing angles. The display features an anti-glare coating, which, combined with the Full HD resolution, always offers great images. Its 3H resistance protects it against scratches. The more natural, fluid and fast touch responsiveness meets the needs of any home, office or educational application - also thanks to the plug & play compatibility with Windows 10 and different Android and Linux versions.

BenQ Announces ZOWIE XL-K Generation Monitors

The first XL monitor was launched in 2010. Back then, 3D technology was all the rage and almost every brand used 120Hz panels for 3D display applications. However, the very first XL monitor, the XL2410T, adopted the same panel for a totally different 2D application; esports. This was the result of a collaboration between BenQ's engineers and the original ZOWIE team, a group of veteran Counter-Strike players and enthusiasts. XL2410T was well accepted by the Counter-Strike community, not because of its cutting-edge technology, but because it was the first monitor able to support higher refresh rates at lower resolutions such as 4:3, 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 - the resolutions adopted by many CS players early on. It also had display modes and smart scaling to convince players that TFT LCD displays could compete with CRT monitors when it came to gameplay.

The development of the XL series has been steered by the focus of providing precise and customizable adjustment for players to perform to the best of their abilities in-game because in the world of eSports, players who take this sports seriously are the true stars. New technologies are not introduced unless it can enhance the in-game experience. Over time we have learned that each player has different visual and physical setup preferences. This is why every iteration of the XL series has been designed to help players see more clearly and play more smoothly and comfortably. During this process, BenQ acquired the ZOWIE brand along with the ZOWIE team in 2015. This was done with the objective of furthering the development of professional esports products.
