Featuring the Intel Core i7-6800K processor and ASUS ROG Rampage V Edition 10 motherboard, this is one of the highest performance memory kits with such massive capacity.

Next-Generation Intel NUCs Detailed in Leaked Roadmap

Intel is preparing to launch its next-generation NUC (next unit of computing) compact desktops between 2016-17. A leaked company roadmap and slides revealed that the line of NUCs based on the company's higher-performance 7th generation Core processors could be codenamed "Baby Canyon," and the one based on its low-power Celeron processors could be codenamed "Arches Canyon." The company is readying five "Baby Canyon" NUCs under the NUC7 series, and two models under the NUC6C series.

The NUC7 series are driven by 14 nm Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 "Kaby Lake" dual-core processors, with support for dual-channel DDR4 SO-DIMM memory, and a unique USB type-C connector that routes 10 Gb/s USB 3.1, 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3, and DisplayPort 1.2. The platform's second USB 3.1 port is a front-facing type-A. The NUC6C series, on the other hand, is focused on legacy connectivity, and features an analog VGA port, besides HDMI 2.0, and a pair of USB 3.1 ports. The NUC6C series could make its debut within 2016, with the NUC7 following up in 2017.

Akasa Unveils Plato X6 and Newton X6 Cases for "Skylake" NUC

Akasa announced its Newton X6 and Plato X6 line of premium fan-less NUC cases, which are compatible with Intel's latest Core "Skylake" NUC system boards. The two cases stay fan-less, and yet keep the 45W-ish TDP machine (Core "Skylake" CPU + PCH) cool, as their anodized aluminium bodies double up as heatsinks. The two cases feature slate-colored, brushed aluminium textures, with diamond-cut edges.

The Plato X6 measures 240 mm x 247 mm x 38.5 mm; features a mostly flat top and bottom surface, with passive heat dissipation happening at two vertically ridged sides. This case has room for a 9.5 mm-thick 2.5-inch drive, two USB 3.0 front-panel ports (standard header), and an IR receiver. The Newton X6, on the other hand, features more conventional 200 mm x 176 mm x 53.5 mm dimensions, with the sides and top of the case being ridged for heat dissipation. It's got the same feature-set as the Plato X6.

Intel Debuts the Skull Canyon Gaming NUC

Intel announced its first "gaming grade" NUC. As if the very concept of NUC wasn't disruptive to the small form-factor desktop segment enough, the company is upping the ante with one that's prepped for gaming. Codenamed NUC6i7KYK, the new Skull Canyon NUC is about double the size of the average NUC. It has sufficient muscle for sub-1080p gaming, but is also prepped for external graphics solutions, such as the Razer Core.

To begin with, the Skull Canyon is driven by a Core i7-6770HQ processor based on the "Skylake" architecture. This quad-core chip features HyperThreading, which enables 8 logical CPUs, 6 MB of L3 cache, 128 MB L4 cache, and Intel Iris Pro Graphics 580. The CPU cores run at speeds between 2.60 GHz and 3.50 GHz, while the iGPU ticks at 950 MHz. With 576 execution units, 72 TMUs, and 9 ROPs, the integrated graphics core is good enough for gaming at sub-1080p resolutions such as 720p and 900p.

Logitech Takes the Hassle Out of Building Video Conference Rooms

Today Logitech announced the Logitech ConferenceCam Kit with Intel NUC video conferencing system. Configured and validated by Logitech and Intel for performance, simplicity and compatibility, the ConferenceCam Kit includes a Logitech ConferenceCam, Intel NUC and Intel Unite application. The ConferenceCam Kit is compatible with virtually all PC-based cloud services, and does not require users to bring their own computer to start a video call. This enterprise-quality bundle mitigates the complexity and cost for businesses to scale up from a laptop-based experience, or scale beyond a boardroom telepresence system to a flexible and affordable solution for any meeting room.

"We have found that a significant number of Logitech ConferenceCams are attached to dedicated computers in meeting rooms, but purchasing, configuring and deploying a dedicated video conference system in meeting spaces can be expensive, and it's hard for our customers to know what is compatible," said Scott Wharton, general manager of the Logitech video collaboration group. "Logitech and Intel have taken the guesswork out of the equation. We researched, developed and tested the Logitech ConferenceCam Kit so it's easy to set up, easy to use and delivers the most affordable enterprise-quality video conferencing experience available today."

Akasa Intros its First Mini-STX Chassis

Akasa introduced its first case for the emerging mini-STX form-factor. Think of mini-STX as a NUC-sized (127 mm x 127 mm) motherboard with a common LGA CPU socket; or a "socketed NUC." Akasa Euler ST has cutouts at the right spots for Intel's upcoming mini-STX motherboards, with tons of room left for storage devices. The ridged aluminium body of the case doubles up as CPU heatsink, and can handle chips with TDP of up to 35W. The platform itself will support chips with TDP of up to 65W.

Patriot DDR4 SODIMMs Approved for Intel Gen 6 Skylake NUCs

Patriot, a long time, leading manufacturer of computer memory has announced the qualification of their 4GB and 8GB DDR4 2133MHz SODIMMs for compatibility with Intel's latest GEN 6 i3 NUC (Next Unit of Computing) and GEN 6 i5 NUC.

The qualification of Patriot's 4GB and 8GB SODIMMs was completed by CMTL, an independent compatibility testing lab used by Intel to qualify memory for their motherboards and platforms. Each DIMM submitted by Patriot was put through rigorous physical and environmental testing in order to be qualified as compatible with Intel's GEN 6 NUC, mini PC. Both the i3 and i5 models of the Intel GEN 6 NUCs have a maximum capacity of 32GB between its two DIMM slots and up to 2133MHz making Patriot a first rate option for a computer memory solution.
