Philips Releases the 278E9 Monitor: 27" VA Panel, 1080p, 1800R, FreeSync

MMD, the leading technology company and brand license partner for Philips monitors, is releasing the 278E9, the latest addition to the E9 line of consumer displays. Featuring the stylish design and high-quality image performance for which the E9 line is known, the 278E9 offers a curved 27-inch narrow-border Ultra-Wide Color Full HD display for realistic visuals and extra wide viewing angles in addition to features such as AMD FreeSync for a smooth and more fully immersive user experience.

Philips Launches Momentum 436M6VBPAB Monitor: 4K, Display HDR 1000, Active Sync

Remember that awe-inspiring 4K monitor from Philips - the one with Ambiglow and that earned the world's first HDR 1000 monitor certification? It's up for grabs as we speak in multiple markets, and pricing is somewhat lower than predicted - a rare, momentous occasion (see that?). The Momentum 436M6VBPAB monitor packs an 8 bit + FRC 43" MVA panel affair that supports 4K resolution, features true Display HDR with 1000 maximum nits brightness, and also features AMD's FreeSync specification up to 80 Hz (overclocked) from its 60 Hz base frequency (minimum refresh rate is unknown, as is unclear whether it supports LFC). Additionally, the monitor features Quantum Dot technology to increase its color range (97.6% of the DCI-P3 color gamut as well as 100% of the sRGB color range)

What's more impressive though, is that Philips' Momentum monitor doesn't seem to be using local dimming to achieve its 1000 nits flash maximum brightness (required for HDR 1000 certification, with a baseline full-screen 600 nits for continuous content). Instead, Philips is apparently employing a 32-zone edge-lit solution. This is without a doubt one of the reasons this panel manages to undercut NVIDIA's 144 Hz, 4K panels, which use a 384-zone local dimming panel (besides the added G-Sync module royalties, of course). The Philips Momentum is available mostly through Amazon, and carries a €799 MSRP, which translates to around $1000 in the US.

Philips Launches 34-Inch 349P7FUBEB and 27-Inch 272B7QUPBEB Monitors with USB-C

MMD, the leading technology company and brand license partner for Philips monitors, is announcing a new 34" UltraWide QHD curved display and a new 27" QHD monitor, both equipped with the practical USB-C docking solution.

The emerging importance of USB-C
Welcomed by early adopters at the time of its introduction as a true revolution in the making, USB-C is now rapidly becoming a standard requirement for business and power users alike. As a real enabling technology, it provides a whole lot more than its practical reversible connector or its support for higher data transfer speeds, also allowing users to charge, transfer audio and video signal with different protocols, and connect to the Internet with just one single cable. USB-C thus transforms displays into the critical hubs around which the modern digital workplace thrives.

Razer Chroma Lighting Now Enabled On Third-Party Devices

Razer , the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, today announced that its award-winning lighting technology Razer Chroma will begin allowing select partners to connect their devices into the ecosystem, bringing full-spectrum beauty to even more gamers. Razer Chroma is the world's only immersive lighting platform with over a hundred natively integrated games such as Overwatch , Fortnite, Quake Champions , Diablo and other popular games.

Razer Chroma also enjoys integration with Philips Hue smart lights, giving gamers a full-blown in-room ambience that can be fine-tuned down to each individual light bulb, completely transforming the way they play. Until now, a common experience for many gamers today is that the lighting effects on third-party devices such as PC cases, motherboards, and cooling fans are not fully in sync, producing an experience that is not in line with Razer devices.

Philips Unveils Gaming Peripherals at Computex

Philips has been selling PC monitors for a while now, and at this year's Computex, the grand old Dutch company unveiled its first gaming-grade peripherals. This includes LED-backlit mechanical keyboards (both full-size and tenkeyless), and four different kinds of ergonomic gaming mice. The SPK8601BHSC and SPK8901SQWC are tenkeyless (87-key) keyboards. The former has a matte-black plastic bezel, and amber illumination, while the latter has silvery brushed aluminium bezel, and white LED illumination. Both keyboards feature "blue" mechanical switches (likely Cherry MX).

The full-size mechanical gaming keyboard lineup includes the SPK8401SQM, SPK8401SHW, SPK8401BHM, and the SPK8801. The SPK8401SQM features silvery brushed aluminium bezel, white keycaps, RGB LED backlighting, and Blue mechanical switches; the SPK8401SHW is its cheaper twin with white LED illumination instead of RGB. The SPK8401BHM has black brushed aluminium bezel, black keycaps, RGB illumination and Blue switches, the SPK8801 is its twin with white keycaps instead of black.

Philips Launches 221B8LJEB and 243S5LJMB Full HD Monitors

Including a range of advanced technologies and options, the new Philips 221B8LJEB ensures vivid colors and crisp details to help boost user productivity throughout the workday. And when a larger viewing area is needed, the essential Philips 243S5LJMB monitor combines an efficient 23.6" Full HD display with eco-friendly features.

The perfect workplace starts here
The new Philips 221B8LJEB Full HD monitor includes some of the most valued, leading edge features that are essential to a great and productive workplace. Start with the exclusive SmartImage technology, for instance, that continuously analyses the content displayed on the screen in order to optimize its performance. Moreover, a specially designed Economy mode is available to lower power consumption whilst ensuring that everyday office applications get displayed best.

Philips Announces Their Momentum 436M6VBPAB Monitor: 4K, Display HDR 1000, Active Sync

Philips have been on a roll not only with their OLED TVs, which have become some of the highest-esteemed in the market, but want to bring that premium quality to their PC monitors as well. Enter the Momentum 436M6VBPAB monitor, a 43" MVA panel affair that supports 4K resolution, features true Display HDR with 1000 maximum nits brightness, and Active Sync tech to bring it up to speed to users' interests and the latest tech (tough sadly, it's being listed as a 60 Hz panel). Have we mentioned integration of Philips' excellently mesmerizing Ambiglow technology?

Philips is promising 97.6% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space, a peak brightness of over 1000 nits (needed fot that HDR 1000 certification), local dimming for deeper blacks, and support for 10-bit colour (8-bit + FRC). The display will support HDMI 2.0, Displayport 1.2, mini DisplayPort and USB Type-C (DP alt mode) inputs. This monitor may well release in the near future, but expect its pricing to be adequate to the technology it offers.

Philips Launches the 272B8QJEB PC Monitor: 27", QHD, IPS, 10-bit Panel

Philips today launched their newest QHD (2560 x 1440) monitor, the 272B8QJEB. It's a pretty run-of-the-mill affair, with an IPS panel, and support for low blue light and flicker-free technologies. When it comes to gaming, this monitor won't offer much: its 5 ms grey-to-grey response time, lack of any variable refresh rate technology make sure of that. Even in the luminance department this monitor fails to impress: the rated 250 nits don't set world on fire. Where this monitor might come in handy, though, is for professional environments, as it sports a true 10-bit panel with 12-bit source support.

This might be a good alternative for work environments, as it's expected it will go on sale for a relatively competitive pricing, as is the usual Philips way of doing things. There's support for 90 degree pivot, height, and tilt adjustments, and connectivity options are set at 1x VGA, 1x DVI (Dual-Link); 1x DisplayPort 1.2; and 1x HDMI 1.4. There's also a USB hub with 2x USB 3.0 ports (one of which supports Quick-charge functionality) and 2x USB 2.0 ports, with some audio inputs and outputs also thrown in for good measure.

Philips Announces Trio of New 27-inch Full HD FreeSync Monitors

MMD, the leading technology company and brand license partner for Philips Monitors, is announcing three new additions to the Philips E-line of consumer displays. Dubbed "E9", these models bring together outstanding design and extraordinary image performance for superior viewing and style. All three E9 narrow-border Full HD displays with Ultra-Wide Color technology deliver true-to-life visuals and immersive viewing angles for heightened convenience and enjoyment, whether at home or at work.

The new Philips E9 monitors all feature excellent 27-inch IPS LED wide view displays. Unlike standard TN panels, IPS provides superior image and color accuracy in addition to viewing angles of 178/178, making it possible to view the displays from almost any angle while enjoying remarkably crisp images and vibrant colors. These models are thus ideal not only for viewing photos, watching movies, and browsing the web, but also for professional uses that require color accuracy and consistent brightness. Ultra-Wide Color technology endows the E9 monitors with a particularly wide color gamut for deeper, more vivid, and more natural-looking colors, while the enhanced Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution results in phenomenal detail, brightness, and contrast for images almost real enough to touch. Furthermore, these monitors are easy on the eyes thanks to Flicker-Free technology, which regulates brightness and reduces flicker for more comfortable viewing, as well as Philips Low Blue Mode, which uses smart software to reduce harmful shortwave blue light for greater wellbeing.

Philips Lighting and Razer Join Forces to Create Immersive Gaming Experience

Philips Lighting, the world leader in lighting, today announced its first partnership for Philips Hue Entertainment with Razer, the world's leading lifestyle brand for gamers. To provide gamers with a new level of spatial immersion, the companies have integrated the Philips Hue Entertainment API and tools with the Razer Chroma lighting ecosystem.

Gamers will be able to sync their Philips Hue color-capable smart lighting with their Razer Chroma-enabled devices, including laptops, keyboards, mice and mousepads, and enjoy light effects that enhance their gameplay and content. Game developers will be able to create lighting effects that change dynamically during gameplay. Gamers can already enjoy these in-game lighting effects when playing "Overwatch," "Quake Champions" and other popular games.

Philips 32" QHD 328P6AUBREB Monitor Offers 99% Adobe RGB, docking USB-C, $500

MMD, the leading technology company and brand license partner for Philips monitors, is rolling out a new Philips Brilliance QHD docking USB-C monitor with High Dynamic Range (HDR). The 32-inch 328P6AUBREB delivers great image quality and one-cable docking for enhanced productivity and effortless convenience.

Connectivity made simple
The 328P6AUBREB is equipped with the extremely versatile connectivity of the latest-generation USB 3.1 Type C technology. Featuring a slim, reversible connector, USB-C enables users to charge, transfer audio and video signal, and connect to the Internet - all with one single cable. Hence, the monitor instantly becomes a hub and serves as a docking station, just without using that extra space on the desk. It also enables easy linking of multiple monitors, which is useful for graphic designers for example. Consequently, USB-C extends the limited connectivity of notebooks and allows users to transfer data securely at ultra-fast speeds. USB 3.1 is 20 times faster than USB 2.0, making data transfer a breeze. And, for those whose devices seem to always be running low on battery, USB-C with power delivery can even charge notebooks.

Philips Launches the 356M6QJAB/11 1080p, 35" FreeSync Monitor With Ambiglow Tech

Philips has launched the 356M6QJAB/11 monitor, a 35" affair that sports a somewhat anemic resolution of just 1080p for such a diagonal size. Besides being aesthetically pleasing - whose mileage may vary, as always - there's not much to gloat about regarding its features, except for one thing: this monitor sports Philips' proprietary Ambiglow technology.

Ambiglow marries image processing capabilities with RGB LEDs that add to the viewing experience by projecting the on-screen color shifts around the monitor's bezels towards a close-proximity wall. It's not clear from Philips' product page, but it seems that this monitor's Ambiglow tech is only available on the bottom of the monitor - if so, this seems to be a mistake, since usually, the top and sides are preferred areas for color display (this editor speaks as a user of a Lightpack PC solution.)

Philips Readying 328P6AU and 328P6VU 31,5" Professional Monitors

Philips is preparing to launch another two monitors to its lineup. These are more geared towards the professional market due to their feature-set and absence of adaptive sync technologies (cue NVIDIA's G-Sync and AMD's FreeSync), but offer pretty interesting capabilities other than that. The 328P6AU offers a QHD (2560 x 1440) resolution on its 31.5" IPS-ADS panel. It can hit 400 nits of brightness (which AMD says is enough for FreeSync 2 HDR-ready panels and other manufacturers are touting as HDR capable as well). It can reproduce 98% of the AdobeRGB color gamut (thus, it can likely cover 100% of the sRGB color space). Refresh rate should be at 60 Hz.

Philips to Launch 492P8 Monitor: 49", 32:9, 3840 x 1080, 1800R, sub-$1,100

Philips is following in ASUS' footsteps in introducing an uber-wide 32:9 monitor with a 49" VA panel diagonal. Philips is picking up the same panel that Samsung is using on their CH90, DFHD (Double Full HD) monitor. Philips, however, is shaving some of the technologies that make its Samsung counterpart more expensive - but also much more interesting for the gamer inside you. While Samsung is including their QLED technology in the CH90, as well as support for AMD's FreeSync 2 technology, Philips shaves those, which will allow the company to reach a sub $1,100 price-tag. It keeps the 1800R curvature, however, which really, is likely mandatory in such a wide panel.

The panel offers an ultra-wide aspect ratio with its 32:9 ratio (good luck on finding many games that support that out-of-the-box), but it features a somewhat low vertical resolution of just 1080 pixels. Brightness is being reported at a maximum 600 cd/m², and contrast at up to 5000:1. Connectivity-wise, the Philips 492P8 features 1x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI, 1x USB Type-C input, 1x D-Sub connector, as well as built-in dual-port USB 3.0 and an Ethernet hub (the USB-C acts like an upstream port). 2x 3.5-mm audio connectors for headphones and a microphone. Philips plans to bring the 492P8 to the market sometime in Q2 next year and intends to sell the unit for about €899 ($1077). However, considering the time interval between now and launch, MSRP and specifications may be subject to change in the meantime.

Philips Outs the 27" 276E8FJAB QHD Monitor With Ultra-Wide Color

Philips has announced a new 27", QHD (2560 x 1440) monitor to their lineup, the 276E8FJAB, which boasts of a 60 Hz, 4 ms IPS panel with the company's Ultra-Wide Color feature which should improve the available color spectrum (Philips are quoting 114% NTSC and 132% sRGB color coverage) for eye-popping colors and graphics. The usual 178º viewing angles of an IPS panel make their appearance here, as do some ultra thin bezels which should improve user experience.

The display comes with other Philips technologies including Flicker-free technology, SmartContrast and SmartImage Lite. Flicker-free is pretty self explanatory, regulating brightness differences between scenes and reducing flicker to relieve eye fatigue and provide more comfortable viewing. SmartContrast detects the content on the display and automatically adjusts colors and backlight intensity to dynamically enhance contrast, while SmartImage Lite "analyzes the content of the screen and dynamically enhances the contrast, color saturation and sharpness for improved display performance". These technologies are a bit hit or miss, though; usually they do little to enhance image quality, and sometimes even hold back the image reproduction quality while introducing increased lag. Connectivity-wise, the Philips 276E8FJAB features 1x VGA, 1xDisplayPort 1.2, 1x HDMI 1.4, 1x Audio in and 1x Audio out. The Philips 276E8FJAB is now available for $349.99 (MSRP).

Philips Announces the 328P8K 8K UHD Monitor With HDR 400

Philips is now the second company to announce a mass-market 8K monitor with the 328P8K. It boasts of a 31.5" IPS panel with a mind-boggling 7680 x 4320 resolution, and delivers on the professional space with 100% AdobeRGB/SRGB color space support. Since availability of these panels is still scarce, this is likely the same panel that Dell is using on their own 8K UltraSharp UP3218K monitor.

Philips is boasting of something they are calling HDR 400 support in this monitor, due to its brightness being set at 400 nits. This would be enough for AMD's baseline luminance requirements for FreeSync 2 HDR, but stands a far cry behind the HDR10 standard with its 1,000 nit peak brightness target (not to speak about Dolby Vision's 4,000 peak brightness target). Contrast ratio should stand at 1300:1, with a 60 Hz refresh ratio. Connectors-wise, the new Philips 328P8K 8K UHD Monitor boasts of 2x DisplayPort 1.3 (needed for display of the resolution, and in a bid to avoid using DP 1.4 with Display Stream Compression 1.2 and ensure a flawless and accurate image quality) and features a USB hub with USB type-A and type-C ports. Expect this panel to come in at a pretty penny, most likely in the same ballpark as Dell's offering, which now costs less than $4,000. Expect Philips' take on 8K to be available for purchase around Q1 2018.

Philips Intros the Brilliance 258B WQHD Monitor

Philips launched the Brilliance 258B6QJEB monitor. This 25-incher embeds an AH-IPS panel, offering WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) native resolution, 178°/178° viewing angles, 5 ms response time, 350 cd/m² maximum brightness, and dynamic mega-contrast ratio. Among its inputs are dual-link DVI, HDMI, D-Sub, and DisplayPort. The illumination is care of W-LED, with a non-PWM method of brightness adjustment (no micro-flicker). Its metal stand allows height, tilt, swivel, and pivot adjustments. Other features include a 4-port USB hub (two each of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports). Expect this monitor to be priced around the $350 mark.

The Color IQ quantum dot solution, coupled with full HD resolution display, produce a professional-quality display available at a price of mainstream desktop monitors. "The E6 monitor breaks new ground, delivering superior picture quality at an exceptional value," said Chris Brown, Marketing Manager at MMD for Philips Monitors "We are proud to again lead the industry - this time with the world's first quantum dot monitor - featuring Color IQ from QD Vision."

Philips Announces BDM3270QP 32-inch WQHD Monitor

Philips announced the BDM3270QP, a 32-inch monitor with WQHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) native resolution. Featuring an AH-IPS display panel, with a native resolution of 3440 x 1440 pixels, 178°/178° viewing angles, 320 cd/m² maximum brightness, and a 10-bit color palette (1.07 billion colors), the monitor is designed for multi-tasking in a content-creation environment. Display inputs include dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, and MHL (mobile high-definition link). It also features two independent USB hubs, a 2-port USB 2.0 hub, and a 2-port USB 3.0 hub with high-current "fast-charger," in addition to stereo audio input for a headphones jack. Philips 272G5DYEB 27-Inch G-SYNC Monitor Arriving This Month

MMD, the leading technology company and brand license partner for Philips Monitors, announces a superb new monitor for true gaming fans: the 27-inch Philips 272G5DYEB display with NVIDIA G-SYNC. With a refresh rate of 144 Hz, this display updates the screen content nearly two and a half times more often than a standard monitor. By letting the GPU control the refresh, it delivers ultra-smooth image motion that includes the critical images that are otherwise missing on displays with standard refresh rates. So players can target objects more accurately - and level up their game.

NVIDIA G-SYNC - groundbreaking display technology
One drawback of gaming with a standard monitor, at least for serious gamers, is the lower refresh rate, which can make objects appear to jump suddenly from one spot to another on the display. The NVIDIA G-SYNC chipset is designed for gamers who are looking for a display that can game just as hard and fast as they can. The Philips 272G5DYEB NVIDIA G-SYNC monitor, with its advanced graphics support, is more than a match for the sharp, fast responses of experienced gamers. It redraws the screen image up to 144 times per second, making objects less likely to jump around and easier to target accurately.

Philips Display Innovations Premiering at IFA 2014

MMD, the leading technology company and brand license partner for Philips Monitors, unveils at IFA 2014 various innovations which are attuned to the way people work and live - such as the quest for health and well-being, a desire to be enthralled and entertained, and a wish for style and elegance in home and work environments. IFA takes place from 5 to 10 September in Berlin.

Shifting blue light toward the healthier end of the spectrum
With people spending more time than ever interacting with digital devices, continuous blue-light exposure through extended screen time poses a potential risk of long-term damage to eyesight. Making its debut appearance at IFA 2014, the brand-new Philips SoftBlue display reduces eye fatigue by eliminating emissions of blue light at harmful wavelengths, helping to mitigate the negative impact on eyes and improve well-being. Unlike software-based approaches, the SoftBlue display works using a new technology which changes the peak of the blue-chip in the LED. It does this without detracting from colour fidelity or brightness, so users can enjoy accustomed image quality without the prolonged detrimental effect of blue-light exposure.
