The Crew Motorfest Season 2 kicked off on December 6, marking the start of the game's partnership with Hoonigan, a brand focused on building custom cars capable of performing difficult and precise driving - and looking cool while doing it. Hoonigan is known for their series of Gymkhana films, which feature rally driver and Hoonigan co-founder Ken Block performing incredible stunts in major cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Mexico City, and more. They also created a YouTube series called This vs. That, which pits two customized cars against one another in a best-of-three drag race, and will frequently post new videos highlighting new and upcoming car builds. According to Hoonigan co-founder Brian Scotto, the company's mission statement (other than not to have a mission statement) is to be nimble and have fun, all in service of entertaining their audience (and themselves).

For Season 2, Hoonigan has completely taken over The Crew Motorfest, bringing a new Playlist, Gymkhaha Grid Masters, as well as curated weekly events on the Main Stage, monthly challenges, a car playground just offshore of the main island, and, of course, bespoke Hoonigan cars that can be earned by completing challenges or purchased from the in-game store. Some of the vehicles include Scotto's 1993 Porsche 911 Turbo TWB, Scotto's 1990 Audi Coupé Quattro, the 1965 Ford Hoonicorn Mustang, the 1988 Chevrolet Big Block ZZ632 Camaro, and the Audi S1 E-Tron Quattro Hoonitron 2021, among many others.

The 27" (68.58 cm) PD27 provides an experience similar to driving a race car: high octane specifications (27" QHD panel, 240 Hz refresh rate, 0.5 ms MPRT), a sleek, eye-catching, racing-influenced design and a wide range of functionalities to be utilized both on a daily basis and during long gaming sessions. AOC today announced two new entries to its monitor line-up, developed in partnership with Porsche's design studios. The U32U1 and Q27T1 are two wholly different beasts, so we'll take them one step at a time. The smaller monitor, the Q27T1, features a 27" IPS panel with a QuadHD (2560 x 1440) resolution, covering 90% of the NTSC color space and 107% of the RGB one. Brightness stands at 350 nits, just shy of an HDR certification, and connectivity is limited to 2x HDMI and 1x DisplayPort. Design-wise, it's a minimalist beauty, with its asymmetrical metal stand and a nice touch on the back of the panel. It won't absolutely break the bank if you're a design-conscious user: at £279, it depends on how much you value aesthetics.

The AOC U32U1, on the other hand, comes packing technology to the brim, and should be considerably more expensive. The 32" IPS panel features a 4K resolution, atop a 10-bit panel which offers 90% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space - a much more interesting proposition for professionals or just the most color-conscious users. There's VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification, and support for HDR10. The trident-like, three-pronged stand is one we haven't seen before, and props up the monitor and its number of display connectors: 1x HDMI 2.0, 1x HDMI 1.4, 1x DisplayPort 1.2, 1x USB-C 3.0 with 65 W output, and 4x USB 3.1 (downstream). Pricing on this piece of tech still hasn't been disclosed, and it will release closer to the end of 2019.

AOC has partnered with Studio F.A. Porsche to bring a duo of monitors to market, bridging the gap between AOC's expertise and Porsche's design capabilities. The partnership has resulted in two monitors: the U32U1, which features a large, 31.5" diagonal, and the Q27T1, which sees a smaller 27" footprint. The change in size brings a change in resolution as well, with the U32U1 featuring a 4K resolution, while its 27" sibling does with a QHD resolution (2560 x 1440). Both monitors carry an IPS panel with 90% DCI-P3 coverage, but the U32U1 offers HDR 600 certification and HDR 10 support on its 10-bit panel. The Q27T1 shaves all of that in favor of an anti-glare coating.

AOC has partnered up with cr-designer extraordinaire Porsche to come up with sleek designs for two new monitors on its range. The PDS241 and PDS217 monitors both feature a (slightly yawn-inducing) 1080p AH-IPS panel, at 24 and 27" respectively. These come in thin as razors at 5.2mm, sporting a three-way-frameless design.

Apart from the sleek design and the stand (which is a hit-or-miss aesthetic choice from my perspective), there is nothing groundbreaking on offer here. You get technologies such as AOC's SuperColor WCG (100% sRGB coverage, and 90% coverage of the NTSC color space), flicker-free operation and low blue-light technology to help combat eyestrain. And these monitors won't set you back that much, at around $240 for the 24", and $330 for the 27", though you really are paying a pretty penny for that Porsche-christened design pedigree.
