OWC Readies SF-2000 Based Mercury Extreme PCI-Express SSDs

Following today's launch of the SandForce SF-2000 series SATA/SAS 6 Gb/s SSD processors, Other World Computing (OWC) announced its first enterprise-grade Mercury Extreme PCI-Express SSDs making use of these controllers. The first products in the company's next-generation Mercury Extreme lineup will start shipping early next year. These include a PCI-Express x16 card with eight SF-2000 series-driven SSDs in an internal RAID, totaling 3.2 TB in capacity, 4,000 MB/s sequential read, and up to 480,000 IOPS. A PCI-Express x8 model is also in the works, perhaps with lesser number of internal SSDs. There's scope for enterprise-grade features making use of SF-2000 series feature-set. SF-2000 series controllers enable features such as native 256-bit AES data encryption, and native command queuing with 32 concurrent operations. Applications of OWC's SSDs include I/O intensive enterprise servers, storage arrays, and high-end workstations in the financial, telecom, web/mail, gaming, public security, retail, and professional media creation/editing industries, according to the company.

OCZ Teams with SandForce to Produce Next-Generation Deneva Enterprise SSDs

OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) and memory modules for computing devices and systems, is teaming up with SandForce Inc. to deliver exceptional new SSD products that leverage Serial-ATA (SATA) 6 Gb/s and cost-effective NAND flash components. SandForce Closes $25 Million Series D Funding

SandForce Inc., the pioneer of SSD (Solid State Drive) Processors that enable standard NAND Flash deployment in enterprise, client and industrial computing applications, today announced that it has closed $25 million in Series D funding, led by Canaan Partners. Existing investors who also participated include DCM, Storm Ventures, Translink Capital, LSI Corporation & UMC Capital.

OCZ Shows off RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSD

At the ongoing Intel Developer Forum event, OCZ Technology showed off its upcoming RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSD. For those unfamiliar with RevoDrive, it is a PCI-Express addon card that holds a couple of SandForce-drive SSDs in an internal (abstract to OS) RAID 0. The SATA bandwidth bottleneck is eliminated, as the drive connects to the system bus over PCI-Express x4. The RevoDrive X2, uses no less than four SandForce-driven SSDs in an internal RAID. The drive connects to the system over PCI-E x4, and is bootable. According to OCZ's internal testing, the drive offers read speeds of up to 740 MB/s, writes of up to 730 MB/s, and 4K random write performance of up to 120,000 IOPS. An IOMeter session running on the demo rig measured 107,124 IOPS live.

G.Skill Displays Phoenix Pro Series SSDs

G.Skill displayed its Phoenix Pro series solid state drives (SSDs), while up the transfer rates slightly from its TRIM-supportive predecessor, the Phoenix. OCZ Technology Ready with SandForce Driven RevoDrive PCI-Express SSD

OCZ Technology is ready with a new PCI-Express SSD that harnesses the power of SandForce SSD processors. Called the RevoDrive, the drive's design is based around placing two SF-1200 driven SSDs onto an addon card, connected to a RAID controller, which connects to the system bus over PCI-Express x4. The internal RAID 0 volume can stay abstract to the host. It is expected to be bootable.

The drive makes use of Multi Level Cell (MLC) NAND flash chips, and can churn out transfer rates of 540 MB/s read and 490 MB/s write. Designed and made in the U.S. from imported parts, the new models offer the largest capacity of any current OWC SSD - up to 480GB - along with three key features not commonly found in affordable consumer class SSDs:

RunCore Intros Kylin II Enterprise SSDs with SAS Interface

RunCore released enterprise-grade variants of its Kylin II series SSDs which it introduced a few months ago in the consumer SATA interface form. The new variants come in 2.5" and 3.5" form-factors, and use the Serial attached SCSI (SAS) interface. Kylin II uses single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash, though multi-level cell (MLC) variants are also available. The Kylin II features native ECC to eliminate read/write errors. Despite the ECC overhead, the drives manage read/write speeds of up to 270 and 260 MB/s, respectively. The SandForce SF-1500 SSD processor makes use of 64 MB cache memory. The Kylin II comes in capacities ranging from 50 GB to 400 GB. Although RunCore didn't let out its pricing or availability, it is expected to cost a premium for being enterprise-grade.

Patriot Memory Planning Launch of DDR3-2500 MHz Kits and SandForce-powered SSDs

Patriot Memory is planning two highlights for its Computex 2010 booth among a number of new products the company will release around that time. Corsair Breaks PC Mark Vantage World Record Using Force Series Solid-State Drives

The World Record score of 32,947 was achieved by a Corsair-built system based around the Intel Core i7-980X six-core processor, cooled to sub-zero temperatures. The system was powered by a Corsair HX1000W PSU, 6GB of Corsair Dominator GTX2 memory, and eleven 200GB Force Series F200 SSDs. The recently-announced Force Series SSDs utilize the sophisticated SandForce SF-1200 SSD Processor to deliver unparalleled sequential and random read/write performance.

G.Skill Shows off SandForce-powered Phoenix Series SSDs

G.Skill showed off its newest line of solid state drives under the Phoenix series, at CeBIT. The SSDs come in capacities of 50 GB, 100 GB, and 200 GB, and in the 2.5" form-factor with SATA 3 Gb/s interface. Its USP is the SandForce SF-1200 SSD controller. With its MLC NAND chips, the controller can churn out transfer speeds of 200 MB/s read, and 141 MB/s write. When used with Windows 7 operating system, the SSDs offer TRIM support, a feature which uses idle time to erase deleted data which could otherwise consume many write cycles, also working towards reducing data fragmentation. The company will release these drives to the market soon.

Like most other SSD manufacturers, Mushkin has added a SandForce based SSD to their lineup which promises to deliver leading performance at a better pricing than their existing products. In terms of capacities you will have a choice from 64 to 256 GB without exact pricing still unknown. As controller the SandForce SF-1200 is used, Mushkin is also working on a SF-1500 "enterprise" controller based drive, which mainly adds more IOPS to the write performance at the same 260 MB/s write speeds.
