We want to thank everyone who shared their feedback with us on our social media channels, but most importantly, we would like to give a massive shout-out to the Doomworld.com and Zdoom.org communities! The initial vision and formula have been re-imagined and revisited as the concept, its aesthetics, and the GZDoom tech itself evolved over the years.

Most Popular Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, Steam Hardware Survey

Steam's latest March survey has put NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3060 at the top, reaching over 10 percent and surpassing both the GTX 1060 and the RTX 2060. NVIDIA has been holding the crown with over 80 percent of users running on their GPUs, while AMD held just over 10 percent. This means that the NVIDIA RTX 3060 almost has more users on Steam than all AMD Radeon graphics cards combined. Intel holds just over 6 percent. Bear in mind that Intel and AMD numbers also include integrated GPUs.

When it comes to CPUs, there are 74.46 percent running on Intel CPUs and 25.54 percent on AMD. Most users use a 6-core CPU, 45.76, with 8-core CPUs taking 18.45 percent. The memory amount has obviously risen, as 56.92 percent run on 16 GB, and 22.41 percent have 32 GB systems. When it comes to OS, most users are running on Windows 10, 73.95 percent, while Windows 11 OS takes 22.41 percent. While some might argue that the Steam Survey is not exactly precise as it is apparently based on a random survey, it does give a general idea and shows the big picture.

Valve Announces Steam Support Ending for MacOS 10.11 and 10.12 in Early September 2023

Valve has posted advance notice that Steam will not officially support macOS versions 10.11 ("El Capitan") and 10.12 ("Sierra") from September 1 2023. After this date "the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of macOS." Valve recommends that users should upgrade to a newer version of macOS, if they intend to continue running Steam and related games and products. The cited reason for ending support is: "core features in Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer functions on older versions of macOS. In addition, future versions of Steam will require macOS feature and security updates only present in macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and above."

Last week, Valve announced that support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 operating systems would cease at the very beginning of 2024. It has been a while since older versions of macOS have been declared as unsupported by the Steam Client - Valve announced, way back in late 2018, that it would stop supporting macOS versions 10.7 ("Lion"), 10.8 ("Mountain Lion"), 10.9 ("Mavericks") and 10.10 ("Yosemite") by January 1 2019. Again, an embedding of an iteration of Google Chrome was given as the main reason behind this discontinuation.

Naughty Dog says Last of Us Part I on Steam Deck Will Have to Wait

Naughty Dog shared a bit more details about fixes and patches coming for Last of Us Part I on PC, as well as the game verification for Steam Deck. As you already know, the PC version of the game had numerous issues and while some were fixed with two previous updates, it appears that two more are coming this week. According to Naughty Dog's official Twitter account, a new hotfix will be coming tomorrow, and a big patch is expected on Friday. The release notes will be available as soon as the hotfix is live, and more information about the big Friday patch is expected soon as well.

Naughty Dog also answered some questions about the Last of Us Part I verification for Steam Deck, and it appears it won't be coming soon as they are prioritizing fixes and patches for PC before submitting it for that same verification. Hopefully, these two new patches will fix the rest of the big issues and Steam Deck verification will come soon, as it was promised by Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann.

The Last of Us Part I Patch Released to Address Crashes and Shader Compilation Issues

Naughty Dog has released its first v1.0.1.5 patch for the PC version of The Last of Us Part I, which fixes several performance issues that plagued PC users since the launch. The PC port of game leaves much to be desired, with a lot of reported crashes, optimization issues, and general gameplay issues, which led to a rather low rating on Steam.

Naughty Dog has already released an official statement over at Twitter, acknowledging issues and scrambling to fix them. "The Last of Us Part I PC players: we've heard your concerns, and our team is actively investigating multiple issues you've reported. We will continue to update you, but our team is prioritizing updates and will address issues in upcoming patches."

Valve Discontinuing Steam Support on Windows 7/8/8.1 as of 2024

Valve has confirmed that its Steam platform will no longer support the Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 operating systems as of January 1st, 2024. Valve discontinued support for Windows XP and Windows Vista back in 2019.

Valve says that after that date, the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows and users will need to update to a more recent release. The reason behind such a move, according to Valve, is that the newest features in Steam rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome which no longer functions on older versions of Windows, and that the future of Steam will require Windows features and security updates only present in Windows 10 and above.

Steam Deck to Get Game Notes, New Notifications

Valve is apparently working on some sort of "game notes" system, and although details are vague, it could give players some way of adding private notes without leaving the game. The information was spotted by SteamDB Creator and dataminer, Pavel Djundik, suggesting such game notes "will be available in the Steam library, and on the web." Previously, the same source suggested that Valve is working on a new notification page as well.

The new "game notes" could easily be anything, but since a lot of players have been asking for a similar feature over at the Steam subreddit, it could suggest that Valve is actually listening to the community. As noted, Valve is also working on a notification page that could be similar to the notification page in the mobile app. Valve is expected to add the notification system as soon as it replaces some of the old parts of the Steam client. Of course, you should wait to hear an official announcement from Valve, as it could be coming soon.

Twinsen's Little Big Adventure 1 and 2 to Receive Remaster Treatment, Third Game Delayed Indefinitely

French developer 2:21 this week announced its intentions to produce remastered versions of its Twinsen's Little Big Adventure games. A planned third game has been delayed beyond 2024, the original intention was to release this sequel in time for the 30th Anniversary of the series, but development has only reached a prototype phase. The remasters will serve as an interim proof of potential to prospective publishers of the third game. These updated versions have been assembled by a small team, with the Unreal Engine 5 serving as the technological base.

The original Little Big Adventure was released and published by Electronic Arts in 1994, and the second in 1997. Activision dealt with the latter's distribution in North America. Certain territories received retitled versions - Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure (1) and Twinsen's Odyssey (2) - this inconsistent branding by market departments caused much confusion during the nascent days of gaming discussion online. The 2:21 team has sought to hybridize the different titles, but the 'Relentless' moniker is no longer part of its new naming system, thankfully.

The latest update was anxiously awaited by those playing either Forza Horizon 5, Resident Evil 4, or the new Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty game.

According to the release notes, the new update fixes a significant focus issue with Forza Horizon 5. The aforementioned Mesa 23.1 graphics driver update is bringing both functional as well as performance fixes. Mesa 23.1 fixes graphical corruption issues in both Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Resident Evil 4. The new driver also adds Vulkan ray tracing to the DOOM Eternal game. Unfortunately, there is no word on DXR ray tracing support, although the RDNA 2 GPU certainly has hardware support for it.
