Lambda Teams Up With Razer to Launch the World's Most Powerful Laptop for Deep Learning

Lambda, the Deep Learning Company, today in collaboration with Razer, released the new Lambda Tensorbook, the world's most powerful laptop designed for deep learning, available with Linux and Lambda's deep learning software. The sleek laptop, coupled with the Lambda GPU Cloud, gives engineers all the software tools and compute performance they need to create, train, and test deep learning models locally. Since its launch in 2012, Lambda has quickly become the de-facto deep learning infrastructure provider for the world's leading research and engineering teams. Thousands of businesses and organizations use Lambda including: all of the top five tech companies, 97 percent of the top research universities in the U.S. including MIT and Caltech, and the Department of Defense. These teams use Lambda's GPU clusters, servers, workstations, and cloud instances to train neural networks for cancer detection, autonomous aircraft, drug discovery, self-driving cars, and much more.

"Most ML engineers don't have a dedicated GPU laptop, which forces them to use shared resources on a remote machine, slowing down their development cycle." said Stephen Balaban, co-founder and CEO of Lambda. "When you're stuck SSHing into a remote server, you don't have any of your local data or code and even have a hard time demoing your model to colleagues. The Razer x Lambda Tensorbook solves this. It's pre-installed with PyTorch and TensorFlow and lets you quickly train and demo your models: all from a local GUI interface. No more SSH!"

Wall Street Canyon is Intel's Upcoming Alder Lake-P Powered NUC

Pictures and details of Intel's next NUC, that goes under the codename Wall Street Canyon has made its way onto the internet and besides the expected upgrade to Intel's 12th generation of Core processors, there aren't any huge changes, but there are at least a few interesting differences. The most obvious one being that Wall Street Canyon has two USB-A 3.2 (10 Gbps) ports around the front, instead of one USB-A and one Thunderbolt 3/USB-C port around the front of the current model. It's not clear if this is due to a technical limitation of Thunderbolt 4, or if Intel decided it was more useful to keep the two Thunderbolt ports around the back for most of its potential customers. Regardless, this is where the two Thunderbolt 4 ports now reside, alongside two HDMI 2.0b ports, with the mini-DP port having been dropped altogether.

Other connectivity options include 2.5 Gbps Ethernet, a USB-A 3.2 (10 Gbps) and a USB 2.0 port around the back, as well as a 3.5 mm audio jack around the front. The Wall Street Canyon NUC is also said to have models with Qi charging for mobile devices. As far as CPU choices go, the base model should be an Intel Core i3-1220P, ranging to the top model with a Core i7-1270P, or in other words, most of the 28 W TDP Alder Lake-P processors. Wall Street Canyon has space for one internal 2.5-inch drive, as well as a PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 NVMe SSD, a shorter M.2 2260 slot for a SATA based drive and an Intel AX211 WiFi and Bluetooth module. The two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots support memory speeds of up to 3200 MHz. No word on pricing as yet, but we'd expect the pricing to be similar, if not slightly higher than the current models

Intel Announces 12th Gen Core Processors with vPro

Intel today launched its 12th Gen Core Processors with vPro. Released across the company's mobile and desktop product lines, these processors are targeted at pre-built commercial desktops and commercial notebooks that companies typically issue their employees, which come with a host of security and remote-management features suitable to a large corporate environment. With this generation, Intel is bringing vPro to even more market segments, including ultraportables designed under the Intel Evo banner; a new breed of enterprise-grade Chromebooks for businesses built entirely on the Chrome OS platform and cloud-based apps; and for the first time, an SMB version of vPro called vPro Essentials, which will make it to entry-level Core i5 processors with vPro.

Security, Productivity, and Future-readiness form the three areas in which Intel innovated for 12th Gen Core processors with vPro. The company added new capabilities for Threat Detection Technology, which can detect ransomware and supply-chain attacks, and can work with various endpoint security software. Intel Hardware Shield technology prevents attacks from "below" the software (below ring-0, or at the firmware, microcode, or hardware levels). This is achieved through hardware-accelerated virtualization and encryption of the entire software environment. Hardware-based protections extend to vPro Enterprise for Chrome.

Intel's Upcoming NUC 12 Extreme Specs Leak

The NUC Extreme might not share much in terms of design with either the original NUC or its earlier Extreme siblings these days, as it's grown into a rather hefty SFF system. Now the 12th gen NUC Extreme has leaked and it comes with a few unexpected surprises, in both a good and a bad sense. Initially it looks like there will be two main barebones SKU's, the NUC12EDBi9 and the NUC12EDBi7, with a 65 W Core i9-12900 and a Core i7-12700 CPU respectively. In other words, it appears we're not looking at any dedicated CPU SKU's this time around.

The first thing that sticks out in the spec is the fact that Intel has gone for a pair of DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, rather than DDR5. In all fairness, this could be due to a lack of DDR5 SO-DIMMs in the market, but feels odd in a product with Extreme in the product name. Memory speeds of up to 3200 MHz are supported and up to 64 GB can be fitted. On the storage side, there's support for no less than three PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe drives using the 2280 form factor. Two of the slots can also accept 2242 drives and SATA drives. A full PCIe 5.0 x16 slot is also present for an optional graphics card, but more on that a little bit later.

CalDigit Launches the TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock

We are delighted to introduced the brand new CalDigit Thunderbolt Station 4, or TS4, offering a staggering 18 ports of connectivity in order to expand even the most demanding of workflows. This powerful new dock is available from today in the US, UK, EU, and available in the Rest of the World in Mid-March 2022. First introduced in 2013, the Thunderbolt Station line of docks have become highly acclaimed, and considered amongst the best in the docking category. The TS4 continues this trend by introducing class-leading features not available on other Thunderbolt 4 docks.

With 18 ports of connectivity, the TS4 leads the way in the wealth of connectivity options it provides. At a time when other Thunderbolt 4 docks on the market generally offer in the realm of 11 ports, the TS4 not only provides more ports, it represents incredible value. Included in the TS4's 18 ports is a full size DisplayPort 1.4 connector. The majority of Thunderbolt 4 docks at this time do not include a built-in video port. The TS4 makes it easier to connect a monitor directly to the dock without the need for an adapter.

ASUS Sneaks Out PL63 Mini PC with Thunderbolt 4 SKU

Not all products are launched with an accompanying press release or even at a trade show and ASUS' new PL63 mini PC is one of those products. It might not be the most unique mini PC on the market, but as far as we're aware, it's the first with Thunderbolt 4 support, that is as long as you get the right SKU, as most seem to support USB 3.2 instead. The PL63 is built around Intel's 11th gen mobile processors and the three CPU options available are the Core i3-1115G4, Core i5-1135G7 and the Core i7-1165G7, all with Iris Xe graphics..

Other features include support for two SO-DIMMs, one PCIe 3.0 NVMe drive, 2.5 Gbps Ethernet, an HDMI 2.0 port, DP 1.4 as well as DP output through both the USB-C ports, regardless of if you get the USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 4 version. As per the pictures, WiFi is also supported, with various options depending on the SKU. An external 19 V power brick rated at 90 W is included to power the 166.2 x 119.7 x 33.9 mm (WxDxH) system. Pricing for a barebone model seems to be US$508 for the Core i5-1135G7 based model, although it's unclear if this is with or without Thunderbolt 4 support. Bump that up to US$650 and you get 4 GB of RAM, a 128 GB SSD and Windows 10 Pro included.

ASRock Announces Two Z690 Aqua Motherboards, One with Extra OC Creds

At the launch of the Z690 chipset, ASRock didn't reveal its flagship Aqua model, but now the company has finally announced not just one, but two Z690 Aqua models, one "regular" SKU and one OC SKU. The main difference between the two is that the OC SKU only has two DIMM slots, since as we know, DDR5 is extra finicky when it comes to running at high clock speeds and two DIMM boards allow for higher DRAM clock speeds, This also means that all the major board makers have now launched a two DIMM product geared towards overclockers.

The two boards are mostly identical in terms of features otherwise, but there are some minor differences that we'll point out later. As expected, both boards feature a large, nicely integrated liquid cooling plate for the CPU and the 20 phase 105 A SPS VRM setup. ASRock has gone for a 12 layer PCB, not something you see in a lot of consumer motherboards and it's unclear if it'll bring any real benefits, but as this is a premium motherboard, it's a nice touch. The heatsink of the top-most M.2 drive is home to a small OLED display, but ASRock hasn't listed the size on its website.

Lenovo's ThinkBook Plus Gen 3 Features 120Hz 3072x1440 17.3-inch Display

We've already seen some leaked pictures of Lenovo's awkwardly named ThinkBook Plus Gen 3, but what they didn't convey was the specs and almost all of them are quite impressive. The main display might be the most impressive part, as it's a 17.3-inch, 120 Hz 16:10 panel with a resolution of 3072x1440, which is as far as we know, the first of its kind. Then there's the "tablet" which measures 8-inches, although it's fairly low resolution at 1280x800. It comes with a "digital pen" as Lenovo calls it and is designed for graphics works courtesy of a software plugin that allows it to work with Pantone colours.

CPU wise, we're looking at the brand new 12th gen Intel Core H-series of CPUs, although no mention of the exact SKUs was offered. There's support for up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 2 TB of storage. Sadly, graphics are limited to the Intel Iris Xe GPU built into the CPU, which means it might not be the ideal notebook for some of the types of work it was intended for.
