Club3D Announces its DisplayPort 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 Active Adapter

In January 2016 Club 3D brought a solution to the market as an upgrade since GPU solutions were not bundled with HDMI 2.0 connectors. Users needed to spend a lot of money for the latest graphics card, Notebook, Ultrabook or MiniPC, that were equipped with up to date technology HDMI 2.0 output for 4K@ 60Hz.

With the introduction of the CAC-1070 (DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 Adapter) and CAC-1170 (MiniDP to HDMI 2.0 Adapter) Club 3D has been the first company in the market to fulfil this demand. These 2 products have become our star products for 2016. Now it is time to develop things further and introduce the next products for this demand.

SoC Powering Xbox One S Leverages 16 nm FinFET from TSMC

Microsoft's new slim Xbox One S console achieves its slimness - including its inbuilt power-supply, by significantly reducing thermal load of its key components. This begins at the heart of the console, its SoC. A semi-custom chip by Microsoft and AMD, the SoC powering the Xbox One S is built on the 16 nm FinFET process at TSMC. The chip powering the original Xbox One was built on the same foundry's 28 nm node.

The new SoC isn't merely an optical shrink of the original 28 nm chip down to 16 nm FinFET, Microsoft added a few components to the chip, including an HEVC hardware decoder, hardware CODECs for Blu-ray UHD with HDR; and a revamped display controller with HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2. The chip also performs 1080p to 4K UHD upscaling, with a native upscaling algorithm. The eSRAM memory bandwidth is increased slightly from 204 GB/s from 219 GB/s.

Logitech Takes the Hassle Out of Building Video Conference Rooms

Today Logitech announced the Logitech ConferenceCam Kit with Intel NUC video conferencing system. Configured and validated by Logitech and Intel for performance, simplicity and compatibility, the ConferenceCam Kit includes a Logitech ConferenceCam, Intel NUC and Intel Unite application. The ConferenceCam Kit is compatible with virtually all PC-based cloud services, and does not require users to bring their own computer to start a video call. This enterprise-quality bundle mitigates the complexity and cost for businesses to scale up from a laptop-based experience, or scale beyond a boardroom telepresence system to a flexible and affordable solution for any meeting room.

"We have found that a significant number of Logitech ConferenceCams are attached to dedicated computers in meeting rooms, but purchasing, configuring and deploying a dedicated video conference system in meeting spaces can be expensive, and it's hard for our customers to know what is compatible," said Scott Wharton, general manager of the Logitech video collaboration group. "Logitech and Intel have taken the guesswork out of the equation. We researched, developed and tested the Logitech ConferenceCam Kit so it's easy to set up, easy to use and delivers the most affordable enterprise-quality video conferencing experience available today."

VESA Publishes DisplayPort 1.4 Standard

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) today announced it has published version 1.4 of the DisplayPort (DP) audio/video standard. The first major update to DisplayPort since version 1.3 was released in September 2014, DP 1.4 is also the first DP standard to take advantage of VESA's Display Stream Compression (DSC) technology. DSC version 1.2 transport enables up to 3:1 compression ratio and has been deemed, through VESA membership testing, to be visually lossless. Together with other new capabilities, this makes the latest version of DP ideally suited for implementation in high-end electronic products demanding premier sound and image quality.

DisplayPort is a packet-based, extensible protocol for transporting video and audio data. Initially introduced as a new external interface, its flexibility has enabled its adaptation to embedded displays and incorporation into other connectors like the new reversible USB Type-C interface and Thunderbolt. Its Multi-Stream Transport (MST) capability enables high-resolution support of multiple monitors on a single display interface.

"The 4K UHD-enhanced OPS connects to more devices for greater productivity and creativity."

AMD Makes 4K UHD Gaming Affordable with the Radeon R9 390 Series

AMD wrapped up today's GPU launch marathon, with the Radeon R9 390 series; which includes the R9 390, and the R9 390X. The Radeon R9 390 is priced at US $329, and offers performance competitive to the GeForce GTX 970. The R9 390X, on the other hand, is starts at US $429, and offers performance that's between the GTX 970 and GTX 980, while being closer to the latter. Both are based on the 28 nm "Grenada" silicon, which is the "Hawaii" silicon re-hashed.

The R9 390 packs 2,560 stream processors, 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs; while the R9 390X offers 2,816 stream processors, 176 TMUs, and 64 ROPs. Both cards offer 8 GB of GDDR5 memory, across the chips' 512-bit wide memory interfaces. Both cards let you game at 1440p with settings maxed out; or 4K Ultra HD, with reasonably high eye-candy. The R9 390 features core clock speeds of 1000 MHz, while the R9 390X tops that with 1050 MHz core. The memory on both cards, is clocked at 6.00 GHz (GDDR5-effective), translating into a staggering 384 GB/s memory bandwidth.

AMD "Fiji" Silicon Lacks HDMI 2.0 Support

It turns out that AMD's new "Fiji" silicon lacks HDMI 2.0 support, after all. Commenting on OCUK Forums, an AMD representative confirmed that the chip lacks support for the connector standard, implying that it's limited to HDMI 1.4a. HDMI 2.0 offers sufficient bandwidth for 4K Ultra HD resolution at 60 Hz. While the chip's other connectivity option, DisplayPort 1.2a supports 4K at 60 Hz - as do every 4K Ultra HD monitor ever launched - the lack of HDMI 2.0 support hurts the chip's living room ambitions, particularly with products such as the Radeon R9 Nano, which AMD CEO Lisa Su, stated that is being designed for the living room. You wouldn't need a GPU this powerful for 1080p TVs (a GTX 960 or R9 270X ITX card will do just fine), and if it's being designed for 4K UHD TVs, then its HDMI interface will cap visuals at a console-rivaling 30 Hz.
