AnandTech, who spoke with the USB Promoter Group at Computex, have shared that the new protocol is expected to manifest in physical, consumer products by the end of 2020. The specification for the next-generation bus is currently on version 0.7, with the USB Promoter Group expecting it to be finalized by this Summer. Then it's just a matter of manufacturers developing new products powered by the latest protocol.

USB 4.0 borrows heavily from Intel's thunderbolt 3 technology - which, if you'll remember, was made available as an open specification very recently. Intel's contribution of the Thunderbolt 3 protocol will enable USB 4.0 to achieve speeds of up to 40 Gbps with multiple data and display protocols being able to share available bandwidth. Additionally, USB 4.0 will make use of USB Type-C's interface, ensuring backwards compatibility not only with it, but also USB 2.0, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 3. Due to the many improvements in data transfer speeds and ability to stream multiple data and display protocols, the USB Promoter Group is looking at the possibility of changing USB's trademark logo for the next generation interface, alongside a revised branding scheme.

Corsair updated its entry-level case lineup with the new Carbide 175R RGB (model: CC-9011171-WW). Positioned between its popular 100R and 275R cases and priced at USD $60, the 175R brings many of the features found on a higher priced segment to this one, such as RGB LED embellishments, a faux brushed-metal facade, and a fully enclosed bottom compartment. The front features an RGB LED illuminated company logo with intakes positioned along the top and bottom edges. One of the case's three 120 mm front intakes has a factory-fitted 120 mm fan with RGB LED illumination. Two 140/120 mm top exhausts, and a rear 120 mm exhaust make for the rest of the ventilation.

The left side panel is tempered glass with a dark tint. Inside, the Corsair Carbide 175R RGB features a conventional horizontally partitioned layout with a complete enclosure of the bottom compartment. Storage areas include two 3.5-inch/2.5-inch bays, and two 2.5-inch mounts behind the motherboard tray. Front-panel connectivity includes two USB 3.0 ports (standard header) and a HDA audio combi-jack. Corsair includes dust filters for the top vents and PSU intake. The front panel logo and included fan support 3-pin addressable-RGB input letting you plug them directly to your motherboard for software control.

Raidmax today unveiled the Atilla, a mid-tower case with its most interesting bit up front - a faux brushed-aluminium panel accented by two vertical RGB LED strips with a patterned diffuser. The left side panel is tempered glass. The entire case is raised from the front at a tilt of roughly 5 degrees, possibly to make it look bigger than it is. Inside, it features a conventional horizontally partitioned layout with the top compartment holding the motherboard tray, and the bottom one with drive bays and a PSU bay.

The motherboard tray of the Raidmax Atilla serves up room for add-on cards up to 35.5 cm in length, and CPU coolers up to 17 cm in height. Storage includes two 2.5-inch mounts, and two 3.5-inch drive bays that can each hold 2.5-inch drives. Ventilation includes three 120 mm front intakes, two 120 mm top exhausts, and a 120 mm rear exhaust. An in-build addressable RGB controller lets you control not just the two front lighting strips, but four additional 3-pin ARGB devices. Front panel connectivity includes three USB 3.0 ports, HDA jacks, and a button to cycle through the RGB lighting's presets. The case measures 383 mm x 205 mm x 484 mm (WxDxH), although some of its height is due to the incline. The company didn't reveal pricing.

AOC has partnered with Studio F.A. Porsche to bring a duo of monitors to market, bridging the gap between AOC's expertise and Porsche's design capabilities. The partnership has resulted in two monitors: the U32U1, which features a large, 31.5" diagonal, and the Q27T1, which sees a smaller 27" footprint. The change in size brings a change in resolution as well, with the U32U1 featuring a 4K resolution, while its 27" sibling does with a QHD resolution (2560 x 1440). Both monitors carry an IPS panel with 90% DCI-P3 coverage, but the U32U1 offers HDR 600 certification and HDR 10 support on its 10-bit panel. The Q27T1 shaves all of that in favor of an anti-glare coating.

Response from motherboard manufacturers to the Intel B365 Express mid-range socket LGA1151 chipset has been rather lukewarm, with very few product launches. The B365 Express is a rebadged H270 Express with 8th and 9th generation Core CPU support replacing 6th and 7th gen. ASUS launched one of its first ATX form-factor boards based on this chipset, with the Prime B365-Plus. The board draws power from a combination of 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS power connectors, conditioning it for the CPU with a 4+3 phase VRM. The CPU socket is wired to four DDR4 DIMM slots, and a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot. The board supports 9th generation Core processors out of the box.

Besides the main x16 slot, the board's expansion slots loadout is designed to benefit from the increased 20-lane PCIe budget of the B365 Express. You get a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 (electrical gen 3.0 x4) slot, and four PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slots. There are two M.2 slots on offer. The bottom slot has PCI-Expres 3.0 x4 wiring only, and supports M.2-22110 drives, while the top M.2 slot has PCI-Express 3.0 x2 and SATA 6 Gbps wiring. There are six SATA 6 Gbps ports. Display connectivity includes one each of D-Sub, DVI, and HDMI. USB connectivity includes eight USB 3.0 ports, four on the rear panel, four by headers. The board's sole 1 GbE network interface is controlled by a Realtek 8111H PHY. The onboard audio solution is driven by an entry-level Realtek ALC887 CODEC. Expect this board to be priced around $90.

Philips today unveiled the 326M6VJRMB, a 31.5-inch 4K Ultra HD monitor certified by VESA to meet DisplayHDR 600 standards. Backed by an AMVA panel, the monitor puts out 10bpc or 1.07 billion colors, 178°/178° viewing-angles, 4 ms response time, and 3,000:1 static contrast ratio with 600 cd/m² maximum brightness. Two features let you care for your eyes - a blue-light reduction mode that makes the display less irritable to your eyes, and a flicker-free brightness adjustment, which uses a non-PWM method to reduce brightness of the LED backlighting. The monitor features RGB LED-based ambient lighting. You get plenty of inputs, including a DisplayPort 1.4, three HDMI 2.0, an analog audio line-in from your PC, and a USB 3.0 input to drive the 4-port USB 3.0 hub. In-built 5W stereo speakers make for the rest of it.

The new Kolink Phalanx is a great value midi-tower that comes with a range of comprehensive features, perfect for builders of all experience. The Phalanx comes with a brushed aluminum front panel, offering a customisable display through it's central mesh air-intake via four pre-installed 120mm RGB fans. These offer a full out of the box air cooling solution, as well as the ability to cycle through a range of colours using the RGB controller on it's top mounted I/O panel. Should you wish to watercool your build there's radiator slots for a 280/240mm top mount, 240mm front mount and an additional 120mm rear mounted radiator.

Internals are easily accessed by a hinged tempered glass side panel, making building a hassle free experience, with an angled motherboard mount for easy cable management. There's also a vented PSU shroud to cover components and cable management in the lower compartment, with cable routing for minimal exposure in the full build.

You would have thought that the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) would have learned their lesson the first time around with the rebranding of USB standards; however, that doesn't seem to be the case. At MWC 2019, they announced that the USB 3.2 standard would include the previous USB 3.0 and 3.1 specifications, but with a twist. USB 3.0, which has a data rate of 5Gbps, had already been rebranded as USB 3.1 Gen 1, will now once again be rebranded as USB 3.2 Gen 1. Meanwhile, USB 3.1 Gen 2 with a data rate of 10Gbps will be renamed USB 3.2 Gen 2. Finally, the new kid on the block which has a data rate of 20Gbps will be officially named USB 3.2 Gen 2x2.

While there is a reason for these names, the fact remains that it doesn't do consumers any favors. USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 gets its name from the two high-speed 10Gbps channels it uses to achieve the new data rate. Keep in mind that previous USB standards only allowed for one channel, and only USB Type-C connectors allow for dual channels. This, as you may have guessed by now, means USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 is only usable via USB Type-C connectors. To try and reduce confusion, USB-IF has suggested that vendors use marketing terms on top of the current naming scheme to help consumers understand what is what in the world of USB. <s>USB 3.0</s> <s>USB 3.1 Gen 1</s> USB 3.2 Gen 1 will be marketed as SuperSpeed USB, and USB 3.2 Gen 2 will be marketed as SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps as per our sources. Finally, the newest standard will use SuperSpeed USB 20Gbps as its marketing term, not that it will do much if implementation of the new standard will take as long as it took for USB 3.2 Gen 2 and the Type-C connector.

ASUS today unveiled the Republic of Gamers (ROG) Rapture GT-AC2900 wireless router with optimization for NVIDIA GeForce NOW cloud-based gaming service. What this entails is a certification from NVIDIA that the router provides "the best possible experience" streaming your game between the GeForce NOW cloud and your machine. What it really means is specialized QoS rules that prioritize traffic between your machine and GeForce NOW. As a router, you get 1 Gbps Ethernet WAN, four wired 1 Gbps Ethernet LAN ports, 802.11ac WLAN with 750+2167 Mbps across two bands, which includes 3x3 MIMO for 2.4 GHz, and 4x4 MIMO for 5 GHz. You also get USB 3.0 / USB 2.0 for 4G dongles and storage devices. You also get RGB LED lighting that's configurable using the ASUS Aura Sync RGB utility. The company didn't reveal pricing, since it hasn't finalized a release date.

Razer, the leading lifestyle brand for gamers, announced today its all-new 27-inch gaming monitor concept, the Razer Raptor. The desktop screen will be unveiled at CES 2019 as an early-design-phase model, with production units slated for release later this year. In yet another entry to LG's (still upcoming) UltraGear lineup of gaming monitors, the curtains have been shoved aside for the 27GL850G to make its first appearance. While49" and 38" monitors are all well and good, and LG does have the specs on them to make them attractive buying options, some users don't really like to have that big a black mirror in front of them. And that's where the 27" diagonal of the LG 27GL850G comes in handy.

The panel is of the Nano IPS type, with a 2560 x 1440 (WQHD) resolution and support for a 160 Hz refresh rate (after overclocking, via the embedded OSD, from the native 144 Hz ). Philips, via its MMD brand license partner, today announced the launch of the basic, cost-effective 241B8QJEB monitor. The 241B8QJEB is a no-frills, basic monitor for your office use, and would be ideal as a second or third monitor in a non-gaming environment - though of course it would also work for gaming on a budget, though there are many better options for that particular use case. The pricing of £159 goes hand in hand with the 1080p panel, which fogoes the cheaper TN type for the more image-quality-friendly IPS.

The Phlipos 241B8QJEB is an environment-friendly monitor, with 85% of the materials used in its construction being recycled, thus reducing its footprint in the environment.
