Cougar Intros the DS10, a Multi-Port Dock with RGB

With notebooks getting slimmer and losing out on the wired I/O you want, there's a sprout in "docking stations," devices that provide many kinds of downstream wired connectivity, tapping into a single high-bandwidth upstream connection to your notebook. The DS10 from Cougar does this, except it's also targeted at gamers, with its RGB illumination. The device features a rugged, sporty design, with an illuminated infinite-mirror element on top. Unlike some other docks that use 40 Gbps Thunderbolt upstream, the DS10 relies on USB 3.2 Gen2x2 (20 Gbps), with DisplayPort passthrough, which supports up to 4K @ 60 Hz.

Downstream connectivity of the Cougar DS10 includes three USB 3.x Gen 1 (5 Gbps), one USB 3.2 Gen2 (10 Gbps), stereo audio with a single 4-pole headset jack, a microSD slot, a 1 Gbps Ethernet interface, two HDMI ports (each capable of 4K @ 60 Hz), and a USB-PD port capable of up to 100 W output. A button lets you toggle between lighting presets. The company didn't reveal pricing.

ASRock Announces Two Z690 Aqua Motherboards, One with Extra OC Creds

At the launch of the Z690 chipset, ASRock didn't reveal its flagship Aqua model, but now the company has finally announced not just one, but two Z690 Aqua models, one "regular" SKU and one OC SKU. The main difference between the two is that the OC SKU only has two DIMM slots, since as we know, DDR5 is extra finicky when it comes to running at high clock speeds and two DIMM boards allow for higher DRAM clock speeds, This also means that all the major board makers have now launched a two DIMM product geared towards overclockers.

The two boards are mostly identical in terms of features otherwise, but there are some minor differences that we'll point out later. As expected, both boards feature a large, nicely integrated liquid cooling plate for the CPU and the 20 phase 105 A SPS VRM setup. ASRock has gone for a 12 layer PCB, not something you see in a lot of consumer motherboards and it's unclear if it'll bring any real benefits, but as this is a premium motherboard, it's a nice touch. The heatsink of the top-most M.2 drive is home to a small OLED display, but ASRock hasn't listed the size on its website.

AGON by AOC Announces QHD AGON PRO with Reflex, 300Hz Refresh-rate; Gaming Peripherals

One of the world's leading gaming monitor and IT accessories brands - AGON by AOC - is proud to announce the AGON PRO AG274QGM, the fastest mini LED monitor. The 68.6 cm (27") AG274QGM boasts an IPS panel with QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels), a whopping 300 Hz refresh rate, NVIDIA G-SYNC ULTIMATE support and includes the NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer. Complementing this impressive monitor, AGON by AOC announces that the gaming mouse AOC GAMING GM510 now supports NVIDIA Reflex, too, which can be used together with the AG274QGM to give players accurate figures on their system latency. Gamers can now enter competitive matches knowing their latency is as low as it can be and their fast reflexes are not hindered by their equipment. Let's drop into the hot zone.

In the competitive environment of fast-paced games, where victory is measured in milliseconds, the stakes are sky-high and a single miscalculated aim or even a slight input lag can mean an early loss. Games using NVIDIA's Reflex API will reduce the input latency by dynamically synchronising Geforce GPUs with the CPU, so gamers can acquire targets faster, react quicker, and aim accurately. Furthermore, NVIDIA's Reflex Analyzer suite can work in tandem with the NVIDIA Reflex supported monitors and input devices, letting users see exactly what their total system latency is and allowing them to jump into games knowing their PC is operating at the lowest possible latency.

Shuttle Launches XPC Cube SH570R6, SH570R6 Plus and SH570R8

Today marks the simultaneous launch of three XPC cubes on the market on the European continent. The "XPC" series from the Taiwanese Mini-PC manufacturer has been impressing users since 2001 with its compact design and wide range of possible applications. The SH570R6, SH570R6 Plus and SH570R8 models are based on the Intel H570 chipset, which is suitable for Intel Core processors of the 11th generation (Rocket Lake) and 10th generation (Comet Lake). Shuttle states that the current top-performing model is the Intel Core i9-11900K with 125 Watt TDP, 8 cores, 16 threads, 16 MB cache and a turbo frequency of 5.3 GHz.

To match the comprehensive processor support, up to 128 GB of RAM, spread across four slots, can be installed. There are also very few upper limits when it comes to suitable mass storage devices. Fast NVMe SSDs can be fitted in the M.2-2280 slot and, thanks to the four SATA ports, so can the corresponding number of hard drives or SSDs. The R6 chassis provides space for two 3.5" data carriers (one internal, one external) and a 5.25" drive; the R8 model, by contrast, can be fitted with four internal 3.5" data carriers - with a corresponding adapter 2.5" formats are of course also suitable.

Gigabyte's B660 Gaming X DDR4 Leaks, Suggests Lower Cost Motherboards Won't be Getting PCIe 5.0

Based on the Intel 600-series chipset leak earlier today, it was easy to conclude that all 600-series motherboards would be getting PCIe 5.0 support, but alas, that is not the case. We've already seen some rock bottom Z690 without PCIe 5.0 and thanks to Videocardz we now know that Gigabyte's B660 Gaming X DDR4 will also lack PCIe 5.0 support.

How do we know this board doesn't support PCIe 5.0? First of all, the x16 slot closest to the CPU uses one of Gigabyte's older reinforced PCIe 4.0 slots, whereas all of its Z690 boards with PCIe 5.0 support uses a new, white type of slot. These slots use a visually different kind of reinforcement as well, even if it's only marginally different. However, Gigabyte doesn't appear to be silk screening PCIe 5.0 on supported boards and it's possible that they're using a different slot vendor for the B660 boards.

Intel H670, B660, and H610 Chipset Features Leaked

Intel is preparing to significantly expand its 12th Gen Core "Alder Lake" desktop processor series next January, alongside more motherboard chipset choices for the client-desktop segment. These include the H670, the B660, and the H610. The H670 offers most of the I/O features of the top Z690 chipset, but you lose out on CPU overclocking. The B660 is the mid-tier option, and while you still get a formidable I/O feature-set, the chipset bus is narrower. The H610 is the entry-level chipset with very basic I/O, and no CPU-attached NVMe slots. The interesting thing is that all these chipsets support PCI-Express 5.0 x16 (PEG) from the CPU, but leave it to the motherboard vendors whether they want to implement it. There do exist Z690 motherboard that lack Gen 5 PEG (and only feature Gen 4).

The chipset-attached downstream PCIe also varies greatly across the lineup. The top Z690 part puts out 12 Gen 4 lanes besides 16 Gen 3 lanes; while the H670 puts out 12 each of Gen 4 and Gen 3. The B660 puts out 6 Gen 4 lanes and 8 Gen 3 lanes. The H610 completely lacks downstream Gen 4, and only puts out 8 Gen 3 lanes. The H670 and B660 put out up to two 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 ports; while the H610 lacks 20 Gbps ports. All chipset models put out at least two 10 Gbps Gen 2x1 ports; and at least four 5 Gbps Gen 1x1 ports. An interesting aspect of the lineup is that Intel is allowing memory overclocking across H670 and B660 chipsets, provided the CPU supports it.
