Razer Pro|Tones m100 Review

Introduction

Razer has always been known to produce some of the best mice and sensors on the market. They established their reputation with the Razer Diamondback series mice, which are some of the best performing mice aimed at medium to high sensitivity gamers. Razer's slogan has always been "For Gamers. By Gamers". It says it all in my opinion.

Not long ago Razer gave birth to a new company called Razer Pro|Solutions. Razer Pro|Solutions focuses on producing high-end hardware for users of Apple products. All of the Pro products are held in either a clean white color or a sleek black design.

Today I will be taking a look at the newest addition to the Razer Pro|Solutions product line-up, namely the Pro|Tones m100, which is an in-ear headphone system.

Technical specifications from Razer Pro|Solutions:
  • Frequency Response: 6 ~ 23,000Hz
  • Dynamic Transducer
  • Impedance: 16 ohms
  • Max Sound Pressure Level (SPL): 108dB
  • Cable Length: 1m/ 3.28ft
  • 3.5mm connector plug
  • Max Power Rating: 20mW
  • Weight: 9g (with cable)

Package

The Razer Pro|Tones m100 headphones come in a hard plastic blister package. One of the things that surprised me was the fact that Razer supplies three different sized in-ear adapters with the m100. This means that you can get the m100 to fit no matter if you have a small or large ear.

The m100 headphones come in two colors, black and white. Common for both versions is the Razer logo on the ear buds.

This headset comes with a large bundle. With the m100 headphones you get the following accessories: neoprene carrying bag, three in-ear size adapters, jet-adapter.
The accessories are somewhat useful, the size adapters are handy and really improve the wearing comfort of the headphones. I guess the jet-adapter is somewhat handy if you travel a lot by airplane.

Above you can see the rubber ear adapters. When I tested the headset I used the medium sized ones, they seemed to fit my ear perfectly and help to cancel out background noise. For maximum wearing comfort and listening experience it is absolutely essential that these rubber elements fit your ear perfectly. If you can't get them to fill out your ear the sound will become shallow and they will tend to fall out of your ear.

Closer Examination

This new addition to the Razer headphone line-up features a clean and stylish design in my opinion. The ear plug's design is quite simple: it's white with a metallic looking Razer logo on the back.

The earplugs are easy to change because they are only held in place by a little indent in the rim of the headphone itself. When it comes to durability the m100 are quite durable compared to other headphones using the same concept with interchangeable earplugs. The plastic used is thick and there are few joints making it a bit harder to break than ordinary in-ear headphones.

With the medium sized earplugs mounted, the headphones look just like the ones that Apple and Creative have been making for a while. The difference between them is the general build quality and audio performance.

The m100s are quite small compared to ordinary headphones. The m100s are a bit small than the Sennheiser MX500, and rounder.

One headphone can easily fit through the hole of a standard CD, this is mainly because they are so slim and straight compared to most headphones.

Every aspect of the m100 headphones system is well designed, the mini-jack connectors seems quite durable and small at the same time.

To protect your headphones, Razer has been so kind as to ship these headphones with a neoprene carrying bag. Inside the bag there are two small pockets for the interchangeable earplugs and the jet-adapter. The carrying bag does a good job at preventing the headphones from getting scratched or being damaged by other things you might have in your pocket or bag.
