Overclocking

To find the maximum overclock of our card we used a combination of AMD internal overclocking software and our benchmarking suite.

The final overclocks of our card are 705 MHz core (18% overclock) and 993 MHz Memory (24% overclock). For a completely passive card these clocks are simply amazing. When I first started testing the card I thought maybe 20 or 30 MHz overclock is possible, but quickly realized the RV710 was capable of much more.

Temperatures

Even though the heatsink is completely passive, the temperatures are very low. This is more evidence for the great power consumption reduction features that AMD stuffed into this card. With around 20% overclock the GPU temperature increases only by a few degrees. Apparently there is still some headroom left in the thermal design of the Radeon HD 4550.
