The new Antec EarthWatts 650 Platinum left me with mixed feelings. Surely it is not a bad unit but on the other hand it cannot compete, in terms of performance, with the rest of similar sized Platinum PSUs and even some Gold units. Definitely this platform needs some tuning in order to meet Platinum requirements in real life scenarios (meaning higher than 23°C ambient, where 80 Plus organization makes their efficiency certification tests) and tighter voltage regulation especially at +12V.
On the other hand, with the new EarthWatts Platinum series Antec targets the budget oriented users who do not want to spend a fortune on their next PSU but still need the highest possible efficiency this amount of money can buy. Do not forget that most of the Platinum PSUs available on the market today are too expensive and in these tough times most of the users simply cannot afford them. So Antec made a wise move by keeping cost down as much as they could while still offering Platinum efficiency to the masses. Surely it doesn't set new performance or efficiency records but for the money it costs it is a good bargain and our Performance per Dollar chart clearly shows that.

To sum up, in my opinion the most significant restriction of this unit's usability is that it comes with only two PCIe connectors. On a 650W capacity model at least four PCIe should be available. If you can live with that then for 120 bucks this PSU is a good deal, as simple as that.
