Cooler Master V Series Platinum 1200 W Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The Cooler Master V1200 retails for $299.
  • Delivered more than its full power at 45°C
  • Good ripple suppression (although not among the best I have seen)
  • Tight voltage regulation
  • Very good response to dynamic loads
  • Highly efficient
  • Lots of connectors, including twelve PCIe and twelve SATA connectors
  • Quiet operation at normal ambient
  • Selectable semi-passive operation through its hybrid fan controller
  • High quality (FDB) fan
  • Japanese caps
  • Fully modular design
  • Flat modular cables
  • 7 year warranty
  • A little better ripple suppression and the V1200 would easily occupy a place much closer to the top in our relative performance graph
Cooler Master expanded their V series by an umber-high-end PSU that can easily be considered the company's flagship PSU offering. Their cooperation with Seasonic is apparently going well since they are among the first to use the top XP3 platform the V1200 is based upon. This specific platform only uses top-notch components of highest quality, and its incredible design results in ultra-high efficiency, very tight voltage regulation, and good ripple suppression, although it could do better here as it doesn't match Super Flower's amazing results. Another interesting feature of this unit is its semi-passive operation and hybrid fan controller on a separate bracket, which will make the fan controls readily accessible. The long list of the V1200's features includes its fully modular design, a must for high-end PSUs, and numerous flat and stealthed cables. The V1200 left an excellent impression on me, and I am glad to see Cooler Master work with Seasonic to offer truly remarkable products. Every V series PSU is an excellent product and surely won't disappoint if you decide to invest in one, and the series now even has a worthy representative in the high-wattage category should you want to power a system with up to four high-end VGAs installed.

To wrap today's review up, I can't deny that products like the V1200 put a smile on my face since I know what to expect as such a unit will most likely complete my tough testing sessions with relative ease, and believe me when I say that a PSU that passes my tests without running into problems is incredibly reliable in real life since my testing methodology runs a PSU through every worst-case scenarios to unravel the finer aspects of its performance. The V1200 has all the credentials to be on the very top of your shipping list if you need an incredibly strong PSU and money isn't an issue. It is strong, offers top performance along with high reliability, is equipped with a Protechnic FDB fan that will last forever, and comes with a seven year warranty. $300 is a very fair price for what is on offer here.
