With many companies offering cases geared toward a silent computing experience, Corsair is going all out, offering the most expensive option in the fray. Clocking in at a price premium when compared to offerings from NZXT, Fractal Design or Cooler Master, the Obsidian 550R still manages to stand out and impress. Offering a different level of build quality, along with some clever engineering and design choices, the chassis manages to easily justify the higher price tag and still leave a satisfied smile on a buyer's face.
With a solid Aluminum front door that can be opened either way with ease, the same potent interior as the Carbide 500R and great construction quality, the 550R rightfully carries the Obsidian name. Corsair has also managed to offer the best of both worlds: the possibility to go for utmost sound encapsulation by covering all air front, side and top air vents, or the ability to compromise and leave any of these areas open to keep high-end components cool. This is something other offerings do not manage nearly as well. That said, if you can get yourself to budget 150 USD for a case and want the best of both worlds - you can wholeheartedly grab the Corsair Obsidian 550D.
