Introduction

We would like to thank PC Power & Cooling for supplying the review sample.

PC Power & Cooling is a legendary company in the Power Supply Unit (PSU) field. Their MK3 series was a milestone since it abandoned two features that all of their products used to have, the non-modular cabling design and the rear mounted, 80 mm cooling fan. Apparently, a company must, as the competition increases, move forward without sticking to old beliefs. On the contrary, it has to be versatile and able to quickly utilize contemporary designs/techniques that offer more than older ones. Thankfully, this was exactly what PC P&C did with their MK3 PSU series and we now have, after testing a couple smaller units with 400 W and 600 W capacities in the past, the chance to evaluate the flagship of the MK3 series, which can deliver up to 1200 W of power.

The new Silencer MKIII 1200 W or MK3S1200 is the first PC P&C PSU that features platinum efficiency. On top of that, while other MK3 units belong to mainstream and medium levels, price and performance wise, this one is clearly a high-end unit that can easily meet the competition eye to eye. (Corsair AX1200i, Antec HPC-1000, Seasonic P1000 etc.) Before we skip to the main review, let's take a quick look at the most important characteristics of the MK3S1200. For starters, this unit can deliver its huge power even at 50°C ambient continuously and with reduced noise output since it promises up to 90% less noise per Watt. Also, only Japanese caps can be found in its internal, something that highly contributes to the unit's long lifetime. Two notable features are the modular cabling system that utilizes heavy duty connectors, which ensure optimal contact and lower voltage drops, and the dual thermal control system that offers two modes of operation, normal and silent. With the flip of a switch, the PSU's fan is not engaged in lower loads/ambient, dropping the noise output to zero. Finally, the provided warranty of seven years ensures the buyer's peace of mind for a long time.
