Introduction

We would like to thank Rosewill for supplying the review sample.

Rosewill, which may not ring a bell to some, is Newegg's house brand with a vast array of products spanning numerous categories, including power supply units. Its latest offering is the Fortress series which includes four 80 Plus Platinum-certified units with capacities ranging from 450 W to 750 W. All feature a non-modular cabling system, perhaps to lower the production cost and the retail price, but which may turn off a number of users. The OEM of these new PSUs is not the usual one, Super Flower, which offered many good platforms to Rosewill in the past, but ATNG, an OEM that we seldom hear about but has shown in the past some very good designs.

The unit we are going to evaluate in this review is the Fortress 550W, which targets mostly users with mainstream systems since it is equipped with only two PCIe connectors. Its platinum efficiency ensures the highest possible energy savings, while the 7-year warranty provides future buyers with a peace of mind for a long period. The only downside for most users is surely the lack of modular cables, as we have already mentioned, but still there are many users out there who will opt for a lower price than for modular cables, especially those on a budget.
