Saitek Eclipse II Keyboard Review

Value & Conclusion

  • The Saitek Eclipse II sells for about 40 € in Europe. This is just a few Euros short of the Logitech G11 price.
  • Great choice of lighting
  • Very good build quality
  • Silent keys
  • Just a tad bigger than usual keyboards
  • Good adjustable size and height.
  • Solid grip on surface
  • Back-light looks great for LAN parties
  • No headphone/speaker or USB plugs for LAN party use
  • Angle of light makes it hard to read with the back-light
  • No CD or special programmable buttons.
  • Manual not the easiest read
The Saitek Eclipse II Gaming Keyboard is a very well built, back-light keyboard without a lot of fancy extras. You will not find any head phone jacks or USB ports and it also lacks programmable buttons and therefore any software to program them. So there is not a lot to be gained from spending around 40 € on this keyboard besides the back-light, comfort and silent use.
While these are great features, the extra functionality and expandability of USB 2.0 or programmable keys would have been appreciated and would certainly raise the productivity as the Keyboard Eclipse II can be used for everyday work quite nicely. It would be a bit hard pressed to find valid arguments to buy this keyboard if you are in the market for a back lit variant and you would have to choose between the Logitech G11 or the Saitek Eclipse II. If you want soft pressure points, smaller size and an overall quieter keyboard the Eclipse II is definitely the right choice.
