I was born in the early 80s and still remember how good the 90s games were. Most of my favorite games of all time. FF7, Phantasy Star 3, RE2, Sonic 2, Super Mario World, Street Fighter 2, Doom, Hexen, Unreal, Quake, and many more were from the 90s.
DDR3 based system is too old unless your plan is to play retro/old games.
DDR4 systems started coming out almost a decade ago so that's pretty vague lol. What motherboards you actually have available to you will dictate what cpu you can pair with it.
Nobody can recommend a cpu unless they know...
Anything modern like a 12100/R5 7500 would be overkill for a gpu that is going on a half decade old.
There are a lot of 8/9/10/11 series and 3000/5000 cpus that would also make a balanced combo it really comes down to if you want to be on a platform with any legs.
Haven't looked in a while...
I've read mostly the same thing sure its faster but there can be more headaches.... I will never own either so it is good to hear from somebody who has done both. I find the hardware both fascinating and amazing to read/hear about.
Can't wait to see your 5090 update.
Yeah regardless of how stupid the 5090 is I will try to find some way to justify it even though the 4090 is already more than I need and whatever 8800X3D ends up being as well the battle with FOMO will never end lol.
Don't get me wrong those boards are cool as hell and I would love owning one I just don't think paying double or triple is worth it anymore would rather that extra $$$ go into my gpu or display which typically matter a lot more.
While I am happy AMD is still supporting the socket and the 5900XT could make sense for some people on AM4 who now need more cores for whatever reason..... They should have included Vcache on both the 5800XT is already more expensive than the 5700X3D and will get smoked in games so I don't get...
Def one of my favorite thread makers on TPU builds always look like what I would do if I had unlimited money :toast:
I see you swapped to Epyc cpus how is that going vs when you were running Xeon Platinum's I believe
There is so many factors that make those really high end boards that can do high memory frequency hard to justify.... Even if you have one will your memory controller handle it. I'm at the point in life where I want to just set it and forget it with mostly out of the box shite. I want 1000%...
Thankfully my needs/wants are more meager and covered by some X670E boards already...
Wifi 7
10+ usb with at least one type C and 5 ish 3.1/3.2
2.5GB lan or better
No sharing pcie 5.0 lanes with the cpu/1 m.2
I do have 5GB/5GB internet available to me but the cost is stupid and don't really...
I put the 360 variant on a system for the first time I got to say I am impressed.... The head unit on AMD was mildly annoying to install otherwise pretty fantastic.
The board was almost free 20 ish usd or else I would have picked something else.... Should be a decent gaming system to replace my outdated one.
Also will probably replace the ram with trident Z royal when it's not stupidly priced.
