Halo 3 Blamed for Poor Movie Attendance

Most movies that come out in America target a very slim demographic: the 18-34 year old male. However, Hollywood is facing one of the weakest box office performances on record. Instead of looking at the movies in circulation or in production, they are very quick to blame Halo 3, which also targets the 18-34 year old male demographic. "The Heartbreak Kid" is a fine example of this, according to Hollywood. Initial estimates hoped that this movie would make $25 million on the opening weekend, but in reality, it hardly made over $14 million. This is absolutely paltry compared to Halo 3 sales, which were $300 million in the first week. While "The Heartbreak Kid" may have gotten relatively mediocre ratings, Hollywood would much rather blame the extreme success of Halo 3 than look inwards and wonder whether or not people really want to see movies like "The Heartbreak Kid".

oh dear hollywood. seems like the only excuse they have got for the poor films that are being released not doing so well is to blame it on Halo 3. And what about the other games released recently (bioshock C&C3 etc) have they not helped in taking most of the money away from the Box Offices??

maybe the film studios should blame the crop of poor releases in the Cinema as well as the regular rising ticket costs for the decline in cinema audiences, it costs me £7.20 for a regular ticket during the evening to watch some crappy film like Death Proof, personally id rather save that money and buy a game with it an no doubt the majority feels the same.

If you think death proof is a poor film, then you probably shouldn't watch any Quinten Terentino films. His movies are not for main-stream dummies.

After watching the heartbreak kid I'm not shocked that it didn't do well. The movie was ok but not great. Imo deathproof was way better than thbk because it wasn't meant to be some tripple A movie and everyone knew it. The problem with this story though is that the movie industry is so hard headed that they can't figure out that an estimated guess of what a movie will make isn't a fact and blaming a game is pathetic. They shoulda just blamed Ipirates which would have been a better excuse.

I think Hollywood is looking for an excuse. 90% of the movies that came out in the last two months just plain suck.

i am actually a tarrantino fan but seemingly Tarrantino is living off his success from Pulp Fiction and is seeming prepared to slap his name on any shit these days. Tarrantino has made three good films:

(1) Reservoir dogs

(2) Dusk till Dawn 1

(3) Pulp Fiction (for my money his finest)

Tarrantino is selling on his name and nothing more with Death Proof and Planet Terror which both were separate films in the UK meaning i paid £14.40 to watch two shite films.

I cant believe you left out Kill Bill!?

Im a fan too, and I admit that Tarantino fucked that one (Death Proof). Planet Terror was entertaining enough to watch, while I found Death Proof downright boring. Also consider that Quentin Tarantino didnt direct Planet Terror.

Death Proof is a decent film in terms of cinematography, but the plotline was just a bore.

Cutting one film into two ruined it for me, Part one was fine and it did leave me wanting to watch part 2 but part 2 was bollocks, for me that was the start of Tarrantino's decline and he hasn't recovered since.

id agree with that except in £ is costs us twice as much, another for the decline in cinemas can be put down to anti social behaviour of some moviegoer's and for me personally the general cleanliness of buildings, last time i went cinema every seat in the screening was filthy covered in either chewing gum, sweets, other food, mud, gunk and grime the cinema floor was visually cleaner.

i agree, the cinema's in edinburgh are real grotty, i would rather WAIT for the film to come out on DVD then rent it to see if its any good, £2.50 a rental if the movie is crap you send it back no hassle, a cinema what £8.50, you leave after a bad film because you've ended up wasting like £30 in total feeding yourself and a mate what for, nothing, no refunds! i would rather sit in my house on the comfy clean sofa in a clean living room, with the surround sound up and the sub going for it!! much better enviroment, couple of mates round, munchies and a film £15. and its better cos you can get drunk aswell haha bonus :rockout:

Let's see. I have a 360, a PS3 several PC's and brilliant games such as those in The Orange Box - why would I pay through my nose to spend two hours watching some crap in the cinema when I can wait for a bunch of decent films to come out on HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, and just play games in the mean time?
I have an HD projector, there are few films I go to see in the Cinema.

The Cinema is something soon to fade away, though, I did just go and see Run Fat Boy Run, which was alright.
