Buffalo Out with More Replacement SSDs for the Eee PC

Buffalo has unveiled new replacement solid-state drives for those who want to update the storage capacity one their Eee PC 901. The drives are offered in two sizes - SHD-ES9M32G with 32 GB and SHD-ES9M64G with 64 GB. Both drives weight 11.5 grams and make use of MLC (multi-level cell) NAND flash memory. Buffalo is also offering an external enclosure for the drives, that easily converts them to external SSDs. In this scenario, the communication with the PC is via a high-speed USB 2.0 port. Both SSDs are set to go on sale next month for $118 and $218 respectively. The USB equivalents will be priced at $130 and $229.

That's according to real world USB performance. Because of the USB 2.0 bottleneck, you won't see an increase with this SSD over a flash/thumb drive USB drive (which is technically a SSD as well).

I thought flash drives could only reach the performance of mechanical disks over a SATA II interface, and that's including the fast ones like the flash voyager.
