Jesus is about right. If you can test the 600 card and it passes the normal 5970 issues...ie: no defective fan, the old bios and blinking screen problems, then I'd do it.

EDIT: Haggle a bit, of course.

I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel with an out of state deal. No real "buyer-protection" on CL. :ohwell:

Wait, what cpu are you thinking of upgrading to? If you only plan to put a Phenom II quad core in there, don't even bother. It's just silly. Just OC what he has, and if he needs more gaming horsepower, install a better video card. Upgrading his entire platform just to get another quad is a waste of money for what amounts to merely a cross-grade. It's not even really an upgrade.

He has an OEM motherboard that, like many others, do not have a full BIOS so OC'ing is not an option. I was thinking the Q6600 to be worth something like $180 but apparently my estimate was completely off. My plan was to get a cheaper quad (like Flyordie's PII 920) and a fairly decent motherboard so he (or I) can overclock it and get a performance boost for almost no money.

I see. You might be able to find a decent used 775 board w/ocing abilities for cheap.

Why Intel so much? I stopped using Intel for CPUs a while ago. I like Intel Wifi but not CPU. Why pay an arm and a leg for an Intel i7 when I can get an Phenom or whatever for less that will do what I need it to do and more. Right around the corner are 6-core CPUs from both Intel and AMD. I don't know about you but, I like paying less for my equipment.

Frys has a deal for a quad 635 with Biostar A760GM2+ board for $90 before a $10 MIR. Good till Thursday, although I wouldn't wait to get it.
