I did this. Still getting black screens and crashing using latest drivers and .8b SLI Patch.

here plan for future:

universal installer, that consists of:
1) patching engine, which patches the kernel or the hal regardless of version OS.
2) autoupdater, which repatches the kernel or the hal if there is a newest version of the kernel or the hal. (for example, if you did update the system)

after it, the project will be frozen until NV think out something else. otherwise it'll not be unfrozen.

How close are we to such nice installer ?

My brudder is programmer, guess he could help, perhaps..lol.havent asked him yet

ok i used the cmd to install the patch and now i can boot and i see sli option in nvidia control panel thanks ! for your help


i only been able to do some test with 3d mark 06 and its weird i only get 600 more points with sli enable

should i try another program to test or maybe my sli is not activated correctly because this is not a big gain in performance

3dmark06 is not demanding, if you had buy version you could raise rez, add anti alias etc, THEN you'd see big changes. If you'd oc your CPU more, then you notice differance.

do the test with 3DMark Vantage to see changes better.

PPL plz ! Forget 3DMark06, its not good for anything these days !

Of course synthetic benchmark software is useful for guidelines, but let us not be amazed by that; nothing like a real test. You can use a Crysis bench (just google for it) or even use some software like EVGA Precision or Xfire for monitoring your frames per second, and play some games.

Nothing like real tests.

Nevertheless, I find those results less than impressive. Something is wrong, I can assure you. With weaker graphic cards, I get 22000 on 3DMark Vantage. I suppose I would get much more on 3DMark 06. Even taking account of my CPU and OC, I think something is wrong in your SLI or in your tests.

EDIT: Oh, and please remove XP x86 and use 7 x64. You're not even using all of your 4GB RAM.

tryed to use crysis benchmark but told me i need crysis installed to use it(i only have warhead wish it work,installing)


at the moment am running with windows 7 x64 but i have a weird probleme i cant install my audio driver for my x-fi. when i start installing the creative driver i get a message telling me --

you have installed driver without reboot your systeme - reboot and try again --

i reboot and still get the same message, i also tryed to use driver sweeper no luck

Yes, you'll need Crysis installed, but I think that would not be a problem, if you know what I mean.

Creative drivers are a piece of cr@p, most of the times. Nothing to do about it, but they have good hardware - it's just a question of compromise. Be sure of uninstalling old drivers, rebooting, let the default Windows drivers install, reboot, and then install the new ones.

Have you tried 257 drivers and patch 0.8? I think it works for most if not all users.

Leave your PC on when you go out or watch TV for 2 hours, do you get driver problems when you open Windows Live Messenger ? Try playing a game too, I experienced a very quick and soon CTD.

I don't use WLM but I keep my PC on all the time (even when I'm not at home) and I haven't notice any problem with 257.21.

With drivers 257 and patch 0.8, I sometimes have my computer on as long as 3 days, using (opening and closing) WLM, gaming, IEing, etc., without any problems whatsoever. Indeed, hibernate is one of first things I disable. I don't have WLM starting with Windows, and it's not up running unless I open it. Tested so ? idle for hours and then open WLM ?

I also do not have WLM starting with Windows. It happens to open WLM a couple of hours after boot and some gaming. No problems whatsoever until this moment.

OK guys, since I have two rigs with P45 chipsets, (2xGTX260 and 2xHD4850) and Crossfire scaling like crap (one card is better than TWO!!! new 10.7 beta drivers came today) I decided to split my GTX260's.

E6500 @ 3.9GHz and GTX260 216SP slightly oc'd rocks, so does Q9650 @ 4.15GHz and other GTX260. And the rig with E6500 has a much quiter case, Antec 900...newly spray painted, looks awesome. Cooler Master 690 II Advanced is both warmer and noisier, little larger also.

One HD4850 was actually nice, could play BFBC2 @ DX9 all max (no AA) @ 1680x1050, the bad part was the multi gpu, no extra fps kinda, the benefits were only extra eye-candy..more AA etc could be applied.

Now nvidia messes with drivers... surely they want us to ditch 4850 and GTX260, buy shiny new ones..lol...

Might get GTX 460, 465, 470 or better a new variant for the main rig, perhaps use gtx260 as physx (is it possible to dedicate the second nvidia gpu as physx on P45 mobo? without the SLI mod

Well, of course they want to mess with SLI hack. Nevertheless, since 257 drivers work, and in my specific case, I can assure you that I won't be buying a new card just because of that. My SLI outperforms in most cases a single vanilla 5870; I will buy a new card when newest games have problems with theses drivers.

Yes, you can use a second diferent Nvidia GPU just for physx with your P35/P45/X38/X48/etc, but using a GTX260 is a bit overkill. Any GTS250 or even lower will suffice. But you can also use a GTX260 for physx with an ATI GPU as primary graphic card; you'll need a hack for that too, and I think you'll find a lot of informations about that in this forum or in other foruns like this.
